While this is a very cool video...I have some historical gripes. Before reading further due keep in mind this isn't a critique of the video it's just to give people who think that this might be representative of the actual facts of the matter with solid numbers. I did not come to the video expecting a historically accurate marvel. Now that we're clear you can keep reading. The problem is there's absolutely no chance an M26 Pershing's AP would ricochet off of a Panthers upper glacis with a dead-on hit unless both the battle was at a range in excess of 600m and the M26 was firing it's worst available AP round which it never actually used in combat (M77 AP). With T33 AP, it's primary AP round upon battlefield debut, it could fully perforate the Panther's upper glacis *reliably* out to 1,100m. Similarly the Panther would not be capable of penetrating the Pershing at a range where it's AP would fail to penetrate the frontal glacis. With APCBC (the only shell the tank would be likely to fire in a historical situation due to tungsten shortages making APCR incredibly rare) the Panther cannot threaten the Pershing frontally basically at all save for in three, maybe four, places. There's a rectangular shaped weakspot in the center of the mantlet where the mantlet does not overlap the turret face meaning that in this small rectangular space the only protection is the 104mm thick mantlet and the 60-80mm thick spall shield (which was not modeled). This means the protection in this small area is only at most 184mm thick. The Panther can threaten this at a range no greater than 250m by the Germans' own penetration data against a flat plate (which this spot basically is completely flat). In fact at 250m precisely it can only barely threaten this weakspot due to the KwK42's APCBC (PzGr.39/42) having precisely 186mm of penetration against a non-angled plate. The Panther can also punch through the bow machinegun port in the hull, however this is a very very small target and still resistant to penetration out to 500m so the tank would have to close within that range. The third and final place the Panther can definitely punch through the Pershing frontally is the lower glacis. The lower glacis is a 76mm plate only sloped at about 56 degrees from horizontal meaning it's only give or take 96mm of protection. The Panther could penetrate this, if it managed to hit it, at a range of greater than 2000m. This spot would be incredibly hard to hit in all practicality due to the generally low profile design of the M26. For reference the Pershing is almost* a foot shorter than the Panther. The lower glacis is also a rather small target at long range and any unevenness in the terrain would likely completely conceal it. The fourth theoretically possible place the Panther may be able to penetrate the Pershing is the turret ring. However, this would require the Pershing's gun be significantly elevated so the mantlet would not be in the way. This is because the mantlet was actually much closer to the hull roof than the model shows. This shot is unlikely but not impossible. In comparison using US penetration data and the known thicknesses of the Panther's armor we know that the standard AP used by the M26 Pershing could threaten the Panther's upper glacis reliably out to 1,100m and less reliably out to roughly 1,500m. The turret of the Panther being "only" 145mm effective at it's thickest (100mm mantlet over a turret face that contours down from 100mm at the exposed cheeks to only 45mm behind the mantlet) is threatened out to a minimum of 1,500m using the low-balled numbers the US Army projected. With the higher end estimations the turret of the Panther could be threatened out to 1,900m. (Low-ball estimates place T33 AP flat armor penetration at 148mm at 1,500m while high-ball estimates place it at 159mm at 2,000m). This is only for those curious about how a tank battle between these two would actually go down outside the only two times they met irl. The first time really proved nothing at the Pershing put three shells through the side of the Panther and it became a flaming wreck. The second time also didn't say much because the Panther missed and the Pershing put a T33 AP round straight through the front an back of the Panther (through the upper glacis) at basically point blank range (something like 50-80m).
I like it how the Panther tank had a good run and its (somewhat)powerfull 75mm can pen a pershings turret ring. Eventually the tables have turned and the panthers lack of ammunition placement and fuel placement made it go down. Well done. Heres a sub for you kommadat.

it would, even the obsolete AP ammunition, M77, for the M3 90mm gun (the gun the M26 Pershing and M36 Jackson both used) could penetrate a Panther's upper glacis at a range of 600m, this was considered insufficient. The shell that replaced M77, T33 AP, could punch through the Panther's upper glacis at a range of about 1,200m.

I dont think itd be all crew would be dead on the first shot. WTs APHE is unrealistic, should send shrapnel in a cone instead of a sphere. So if only the turret gets hit, turret crew only should die, driver and gunner suffer shrapnel wounds and would prob bail out. If hit CoM however basically everyone would be dead on the spot.
In real life the Pershing never would've bounced off of the Panther's armor so that point is sort of irrelevant also APCBC was abandoned because the additional damage wasn't a proportional trade off for the detriment to penetration it brought on. Having a cavity for explosive filler drastically reduced penetration capability because the shell was no longer a completely solid unit among other things. In a real life battle scenario the Panther would have very little chance against a Pershing due to the fact that the Pershing was the purpose built counter to the Panther. The Pershing's armor could largely resist the Panther's APCBC shell even at short ranges with only some weak spots being vulnerable. Meanwhile the M26 Pershing would not fail to penetrate any of the Panther's armor save for in cases where it struck at a completely unrealistic angle.
