A plushie of one of those birds was used as the Omnidroid in a sock puppet parody of The Incredibles made by one of the people working on the film in case everything else failed.
I love this short the most out of any short by Pixar because it parallels to real-life issues like being a bully to someone who's a little different, but just wants to have at least 1 friend and fit in (or maybe I'm just reading too much into it and being too philosophical). The big bird's all goofy-looking and obviously different from them, but after he flies over to them, is innocent, and just before he falls because of them: you can see how he was the only thing keeping the powerline weighted down and keeping them from being rocketed up into the air! But, by then... Their comeuppance was great!
You're right, but it's no where near philosophical. Philosophy is the pursuit of truth no matter where it may lead you and typically revolves around questions regarding the nature of knowledge, existence, and reality. This is purely an analytical observation of a piece of visual media. However, I do agree with you in that the close up of the larger bird's loosening grip with a close up of their smug and villainous expressions, reveals their sadistic intentions to cause the larger bird's inglorious downfall. This parrelels that of a real life situation, particularly that of a primary school (elementary school) where younger students are typically seen excluding others due to the nature of pear pressure around the school yard. Great observation though!
1:51 I love how angry the birds look, 1:57 I love how smug the small birds look, 2:45 the one naked bird looks so funny, and at 1:10 I love how puffy the one bird closest to the left because of his feathers. Also at 2:13 I love it when the one bird realizes there gonna go flying.

I remember watching this in theaters and loving the music score so much and kind feeling like the style was so familiar to me. I then went to a Riders in the Sky concert/show with my mom and when they talked about it I had an I knew it! moment. It was so much fun having them play it live with the short playing on a projector above them along with their other songs

1:57 I like the detail in the beaks. I think that's bird 1 (angry) and bird 3 (snooty), where the former picks fights and the latter stays out of them and keeps themselves pristine.
It's to teach the class important lessons: respect others no matter if they're different, don't bully anyone, learn to share, be kind, if you do wrong it'll come back to you someday somehow. What did you learn from it?
