I use a mid sized bar clamp to press on the pinion for my Surpass, added a small socket to push it beyond the end of the drive shaft. If that helps avoid the banging on future builds.
Can’t wait for my motor, mount, and gears to arrive. Buying another Jeep to start another build centered around it myself.
Matt, I press on the brass pinions in a vise until it is flush with the end of the shaft, then use a random nut that is slightly bigger than the shaft to press the pinions further.
Nice! I agree with you on them though. I think I actually like them better. Just a little tougher to install.

Yeah it’s not a bad setup but it just don’t fit my style well. I’m making it work but I kinda wish I had this setup built on a different chassis honestly. It does soooo well but it won’t drag over anything that has a sharp peak to it! Drives me crazy!!

It’s not bad & I hate to drive people away from it because the last thing I wanna do is put down someone else’s work but if it’s not for me then I’m not gonna lie and say I love it. It’s really a tough thing to do sometimes!

I think ordering the ultimate kit was definitely the way to go. Also that speed jump issue did seem less punchy than the surpass. ordered some of those double barrel shocks last night to get me up and going better for the time being, thanks for that video to sir!
Yeah I think that kit is going to be very popular. It’s really easy to go brushless for anyone now!
How did you end up mounting up everything? I just ordered the Tegu kit. I have a spektrum receiver on the way as well. I’m trying to figure out where to mount it all up once the Furitek motor is on. Looks like I’ll need to trim up the esc mounting tray a bit

Great video Matt , I am so ready to get my motor in from Furitex. I bought the whole kit . How long does it usually take for them to arrive. I ordered about a week ago. My grandkids are getting so good with these crawlers now the 4 year old and the 7 year old are now even talking about heat sinks and suspension and weights and 60% 40% balance. And tires and wheels . It is so cool to listen to their conversations about choosing lines on the crawler course. Last night the 7 yrs old Dominic set the course record 1:12:80 without a penalty. Didn't hit any flags or no hand of god ... he is so excited. Anyway thanks for the help .
That’s so awesome!! I’m thinking I may build a new course soon and make it more like a time trial course. I still want a few lines to really test things out on but I feel like we would have a blast with some flags and obstacles! Usually I get my stuff from Furitek in around 3-4 days but I don’t think they are shipping any of these until around the end of the month. I’ll have to ask to find out for sure.
@@2fmrc please ask them . Let me know . Maybe they are waiting on gears to complete the kit . But I believe they should keep them in stock . I think a lot of people want those gears lol

Our course is pretty challenging the flags are very tight . The best time used to be 2:08 and held for a while. But after all the mods and getting used to the course, we all were doing better. I actually set a faster time 1:09 but I just touched two flags and we add 5 seconds for every flag hit and if we have to touch the crawler its 10 seconds. So my 1:09 turned into a 1:19 ... so my grandsons 1:12 is now the record. I think it may hold for a while lol ...

So what if one was to flip the chassis rails so it's basically set up backwards would that not help like I might just be thinking too hard

Man my Komodo is so loud and crawls better in reverse than forward. Been playing with the app for days. Punch turned down and low speed all the way up.
You put thid power system in a stock scx 24 chassis? Have a build video on it
I don’t think I do. It’s pretty simple but you may have to cut the battery tray and move things around a bit. Lots of smaller brushless motor options out there now though.

The Komodo has vents. Will that be an issue with river crossing and water proofing?!
It will definitely be more of an issue imo. I liked the sealed can of the other. I mean it’s still not completely sealed because of the outrunner but it has to be a little better I would think. I never submerge my stuff so I’m not worried but others may be. I’ll run it in some water soon hopefully and let ya know how it does lol
@@2fmrc i was running mine at the rocks at a beach nearby, stopped to make some photos and dropped the transmitter in the water 🤡
salt water damage. i tried to restore it, but it's no use lol. a dumb mistake and a lesson to be learned.
@@egoravdeev670 I killed a battery and almost lost my Max 5 in my xmaxx just last month at the beach. I may have been skimming water a bit too much 😆. It completely melted my battery connectors together and killed one of the two 4s packs lol. That salt water is rough on RCs

So I’m guessing if you want to mount the motor in the back you just take the skid plate and reverse it
Yep! May have to swap your driveshafts also depending on your setup. Mine are the same basically from front to rear on this build.

I did the install but it goes backwards? What did I do wrong?
Just go into the app and change the motor direction. Just depends which way you face the transmission. No big deal. Or you can calibrate your throttle in the app as well and that usually takes care of it.

no, i think it would be too big and you would need to do some modifications to make it fit.
It may take a little work to fit it all but it’ll definitely work. When you change the motor mount it always requires you to move things around a bit but it shouldn’t be bad.

Just put a full furitek kit in and I'm having a problem I get a bad meshing issue when giving abrupt throttle from dead stop it's fine if I ease into it but if I goose it it just spins gears and doesnt do anything any suggestions?
What was that blue brushless motor that you pulled off of there? Do you have a video on that motor and how it ran?

It came out of one of these sets from eBay. Everyone was asking if they were any good so I got one and tried it. Paired the motor with the Furitek and still didn’t like it.

Very cool, thanks for shareing that. but i feel like it rly dosnt matter what motor you throw at it. iThe ESC rly is what needs to be changed, to get a smooth feeling from 0-100 with no jumps in speed.
did you ever think about getting an small quad esc and flash the custom crawler firmware?
Nah I mostly just try to pick up things that are easily available for everyone. Most people (including myself) probably wouldn’t bother with all that lol

Yes. It’s a brushless motor so you’ll need a brushless esc for it.

Yes M3x12mm or 14mm. I gotta make sure I add those to the description. Not sure if I did or not lol
Hey 2FM RC! You have very helpful videos. I got a question. I am running a Furitek Komodo with the lizard pro esc and flysky fs gt5. However, the reverse throttle is faster than the forward throttle. What am I doing wrong? Do I need the Bluetooth for the lizard pro?
mine runs backwards and i can’t figure out how to swap it
If you go into the app to program it there is a tab that says motor direction. Just switch it. Should take care of it.

What shocks you got?
Those are the oil filled carismas on the Jeep. Pretty good shocks and much longer than stock. They like to leak oil a bit though.
Which steering servo would you recommend that has more power?
What esc combo is better for a mostly stock SCX24 the TEGU or LIZARD?
Either will work great. If you don’t plan to run 3s or a really power hungry servo the lizard works great. It has a lower bec than the Tegu and isn’t 3s capable. I love the space it saves though because the lizard is tiny! Both are really good and smooth!
@@2fmrc I run an emax servo and planning on maybe doing a custom body at some point so the Lizard ESC combo would probably be best I’m guessing.
Can the lizard work with front and rear steering or would it be better to get the TEGU for that ?

I just use a pack of the stock shafts. They are backordered everywhere but here it looks like. A bit more expensive than normal but they have them 🤷🏻♂️

Yep! You’ll need a new esc and receiver but it’ll bolt straight up to the stock transmission

@@24Krawlers yes it should be great with it. I’ll try it to see but the lizard works great with the surpass. It’s just not 3s capable and the bec is a bit lower but it works great and is tiny!
every 3rd screw is instantly stripped, what kind of shit quality screws does horizon put in their scx24?! wth!
I’ve never had a screw strip on these things!!! Are you meaning the head of the screw itself or the threads?
2FM RC the head. I got a better screwdriver but it doesn‘t matter. inserting the bit and starting to turn and the screwdriver is alrdy turning freely. some screws are fine but the majority is unusable and hardly to get out... I just finished the install but thats so annoying.

@@itzzviolence definitely pick up an MIP .05 and they won’t round out. If some are already rounded use a small rubber band over the tip of the tool and insert it into the head of the screw. That sometimes helps. With the MIP tools there won’t be any more stripped heads on these little trucks. Nothing on these things are very tight really.
