Not really. Trump’s entire campaign would have to restructure their attack line and strategy if Biden is swapped out at this stage. Governor Newsom would be the best option if Democrats were smart. What gets me is that many left-leaning CZcams political commentators were keen to point out how polls are essentially meaningless outside of being temporary snapshots of the current voter positions until at least Labor Day because they shift so much every day, let alone every week or month. Not to mention how they've been so wrong when it comes to elections since 2016, increasingly underestimating Dems while overestimating Repubs.

One thing that many people don't take into account is the absolute mess he inherited from Trump. He didn't have a great starting position, and sadly, many people judge only by the absolute results, not the relative results. I think Biden would be much more praised if he had taken over after Obama for example. However, I agree with you regarding FDR.

For it to make sense for Biden to step down, there has to be people who wouldn't vote for Biden but would vote for another candidate, likely Harris. At the same time, those who would vote for Biden but not for some other candidate has to be fewer. I just can't see any evidence for that.

Movement in polls is something to pay attention to but I would not recommend anyone take the actual placements in the polls seriously this far from the election. Until mid October they are usually really inaccurate.

I want to see how the attempt on Trump’s life will affect the polls, if at all. I suspect Trump will try to capitalize on it, which will hopefully turn away independent and swing voters.

I think its important to also consider the level of enthusiasm in each voter camp and how that would skew the motivation to participate in a poll. Think most lefties that begrudgingly will vote for Biden aren't necessarily looking to go shouting it from the rooftops

Also, it's much easier to say you're not voting for Biden when asked by a pollster, than when it's election day and you know that your vote can stop Trump. Polls are hypotheticals, "of course I would rather want X instead of Biden", but when you stand there, ballot in hand, and there are only two real options, Biden or Trump, I would think that most liberals and progressives will still vote Biden.

If this was Brazil, I would be far more worried about the assassination attempt helping Trump or listening to national polls, but we don't have a national popular vote.
The Debates are of no real benefit one way or the other, who wins is irrelevant. The big question is, what is happening in the minds of the American people, where is the critical thinking, the moral values of the people, Biden has been Presidential, Trump is a blight on American politics. I'm not American, nor do I live there, but I fear that Americans are not capable of making the right decision on what is best for themselves and the country as a whole. It's a Morning Consult tracking poll. It has effectively no margin of error as it's a poll of the same people, month after month. Movement is movement, in this case.
