Choreographed for the City Center Joffrey Ballet by Anna Sokolow in 1965, this "beat ballet" (or "alienated youth ballet") was performed in what was then considered scandalous costume: blue jeans. The piece is probably one of Sokolow's most famous works for a ballet company and was the prototype to countless subsequent rock ballets.
