Here's a quote from wiki. Bluegrass has mixed roots in Irish, Scottish and English traditional music, and was also later influenced by the music of African-Americans through incorporation of jazz elements.
You should like it. Bluegrass music was made by Scots Irish immigrants in the Ohio River valley & the Appalachian mountains where they settled. If you listen hard you'll here familiar Irish & Scottish melodies
The world is changing. The old ways are dying, and so much has been lost forever. The future seems to be hurtling towards us at a breakneck pace. But in a handful of places, that's not quite true. Places like Rocky Top. Nestled high up in the Appalachians, it almost feels protected from the march of time. As though you could reach out and touch the past, still alive and well. There are many in the world who cherish such places, and guard them jealously from those who would try to change them.

Whenever I miss home back in Tennessee, I put on this song and go back to one of those many endless summer nights, surrounded by bar patrons of all ages who simultaneously become animated with the spirit of Appalachia as we all sing this song together at the top of our lungs. Doesn’t matter where the wind takes my family and I, Tennessee will always be home. I found my soul and spirituality in those hills. Fell in love with my wife there. Don’t expect a warm welcome at first when moving to East Tennessee. They like you to visit...then go home. Once you prove you are trustworthy...then it’s best place on Earth. Note...this may take years if from FL...decades if from NY.
Can you blame them? I'd feel nervous with a ton of immigrants and worry that my culture would suffer. We just pray that our neighbors and church will be friendly and that we'll come to fit in over time. We have NO desire to change Tennessee. It's perfect!
@@lisareiter5368 pretty sure that’s what the Cherokee said when the area was stolen from them. I love Tennessee, it is a beautiful place split into 3 completely different places. East Tennessee is my home now. It is permanently changing by the day. Can be threatening, I get that...but it’s time to do things the best way, not just whatever is traditional. Mix of both old and new is best. Biggest issue I had was busy bodies and gossips. It’s to me the biggest black eye. It’s still better than most places. It’s just too bad because that easy fix would give this place the reputation it deserves.
I was born in Memphis and only lived there for 18 months, have visited TN almost every year since to visit family though and this song runs through my veins.

I used to get mine from an old man at a place we called The Walls of Jericho which is right on the Alabama/Tennessee line. At the head of Paint Rock Valley. This mixed with peppermint candy, honey, and lemon was the best cough medicine you could get.
I grew up with a dad who played bluegrass on his Martin guitar. My childhood is filled with summertime memories of weekend music gatherings at our house, we would have 5 or 6 musicians and their families over for bbq, bluegrass, hand cranked homemade ice cream, and homemade wine. I accompanied my dad to bluegrass festivals all over Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. I had the privilege of witnessing some of the all time greatest blue grass guys ever. Bill Monroe, Bobby and Sonny Osborne, Jimmy Martin and Ralph Stanley just to name a few. When I hear good bluegrass, it takes me back to those childhood memories-it was good times when life was much simpler.
I have many similar memories with my dad. I agree with you 100% Mike. Bluegrass is the music that brings back memories of not only simpler times, but for me, happier times.

I find it kind of ironic that a couple of mountain boys from Hyden, KY made a song about Tennessee famous. That being said, I am not being negative in any way about Tennessee, a lot of my ancestors came from Grainger County, Tennessee. I am blessed to live where I do, in eastern KY, the Osborne Brothers just live about an hour and a half from where I do. My mother used to work with Bobby back in the 50's. They have a nephew named Dean Osborne, who also has a Bluegrass band, and he is pretty good too. We know Dean through his wife, great person, he gave my mom and dad free passes to a Bluegrass festival in eastern KY, and everybody that was anybody in Bluegrass music was there, J.D Crowe, Ralph Stanley, Bobby Osborne, and MANY more, when we got there Dean picked us up in a golf cart and took us where all the buses where parked and let us tour some of the buses, WOW, that was a treat. Dean then took us behind the stage where Bobby was, and let my mom talk with Bobby to catch up on old times. That was a great day for all of us, and something my mom and dad will remember forever. Dean is a good friend, even have him as a friend on Facebook.
+Greg Stanley, I was born in Fort Worth, Texas , if i ever leave texas to live somewhere else it would be in Eastern Kentucky. My mom, papaw and meme (grandma) and others are from the Hazard/ Lothair area and i have always felt most at home in that part of the world.
I was born in a small town in Northwest Florida, raised in a small town in Southwest Alabama. Been to Tennessee 6 or 7 times in my life, it's like a second home! My family and I have gone once a year for the past 3 years but were unable to go this past year due to wife losing her job. But every time I listen to this I go back the those Smokies in my memories. Maybe we'll get to go back to Good Ol' Rocky Top soon.

I'm Puerto Rican and I wholeheartedly approve of this awesome song. I used to hear a lot of Bluegrass music, and this song never failed to elicit nothing less then a dance. Love it!!!
Rocky Top, by the Osbournes?
We love Puerto Ricans in Tennessee!!
I was in a bar in Chattanooga many years ago. When this came up on the jukebox, the entire bar stood up and put their hand over their hearts.
😂🥹🧡🍊
The streak has been broken by Tennessee against Alabama!! And it's the kicker who won the game!!
This song stays in your blood, washes away your worries.
Jesus loves you and is here for you. 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.' Proverbs 3:5-6 💙✨
I used to live in Tennessee. Lived there for so long and I had to move. But when I hear this song, my true Tennessee pride is unleashed!
I so terribly miss East Tennessee. Hatred from Saint Louis is more than I care. Strange how Volunteers are rewarded only being strong and healthy unlike few people.
Here because Tennessee just pulled out an amazing win over Alabama.
Here because Tennessee got destroyed by the cocks this weekend
Here bc sc just whooped Tennessee’s ass
Im here to mourning Alabama vs tenn when bama lost and sc vs tenn cuz ya'll my third team
Here because I did not know this song until Morgan Wallen mentioned it
Me
I may be from Wisconsin but damn it I love Rocky Top Tennessee.
it was written by a Milwaukee native, Felice Bryant had some kind of connection to the dream world her life story is fascinating
Born and raised in East Tennessee, this song gives me chills every time I hear it, so thankful to live in the greatest place on earth
Born n raised in Nashville, travelled to East Tennessee hundreds of times, I still get chills listening to this
I'm more into Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and Punk Rock but I gotta say that these folks are true musicians!!! I love banjo music!! Flatt and Scruggs are Idols of mine!!! These guys nail this song!!! One thing that sucks about this song...Its not long enough!!!!!
+Dennis Lyons As a fellow metal head and punk rocker, I agree. SLAYER!!!
+Keith Lammon Yea Slayer friggin rocks!!! I saw them over here in Ft. Lauderdale back around 2000 sometime and they blew my mind. they played in this place where after they were done they had this meet n greet thing and they signed autographs. it was around Halloween cuz there was a costume contest and their lead singer was the guy that stood on the stage asking for people to yell for the person with the best costume. It was really cool. My ex girlfriend has pictures of us standing next to the band but getting copies of then is an impossibility now. posses me off that I never got copies
+Keith Lammon I get into blue grass music but it has to be fast tempo!! Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Flatt &Scruggs is my favorite!!
Dennis Lyons all forms of modern music evolved from bluegrass and blues!
Same here brother, but Tool!
Go Vols!!!!!! Good old Rocky Top!!!
As a proud Florida Gators fan, one positive thing I can say about Vols fans, is that they have unbelievably good music taste
Boy those fellas are pure iconic bluegrass artists.I love the way he sings.
This song is dedicated to everyone who lost a loved one. God bless. "I'm calling out your name tonight" by Richie Levoiczcams.com/video/JSbGGiSe3S8/video.html
My fiancée lost his sister in movement 2020 but when he watches this clip it cheers him up!Anyone k now what year this clip us from?Watching this in January 2021!Stay safe people!
MOST beautiful state ive ever visited.
Tennessee won against Alabama tonight October 15 2022 for the first time in 16 YEARS "GOOD OLD ROCKY TOP TENNESSEE WHOOO!!!!"
Osborne brothers introduced bluegrass to the world after they recorded this song. I seen them in concert as a child. Sonny was a innovative banjo player. Listen to his break . Sweeping like Chet Akins , what a pro player. Best harmony by the bothers. Bobby is always on point with his performance lead . They are the definition of entertainment!!
My mama is from the hills of Tennessee. Love this.
AMEN
Has the ole' girl been back to Rocky Top?
Heard this for the first time at a wedding in Knoxville, Tennessee this weekend. Everyone got on their feet and danced. 12 hours and 1 rabbit hole later it's on my Favorites Playlist.
Now this is real country music
Actually it's not it's real bluegrass.
Who's here after Tennessee beat Alabama 52-49?
I might be from West Virginia but you can't help but like this song! It's one of the best Bluegrass songs of all time! And when you hit the fiddle and banjo solos, good God if that don't get your feet to moving then I don't know what will!
Don’t expect a warm welcome at first when moving to East Tennessee. They like you to visit...then go home. Once you prove you are trustworthy...then it’s best place on Earth. Note...this may take years if from FL...decades if from NY.
I heard if you bring some canned corn they warm up to you quicker : )
Gregg Tomchick keep it in glovebox too, Incase you get stopped for speeding. Yes, the corn has amazing diplomatic powers.
This made my day
Can you blame them?
Rocky Top Tennessee 15 years but today we claim the 3rd Saturday of October. Good Ole Rocky Top Tennessee.
I was born in Memphis and only lived there for 18 months, have visited TN almost every year since to visit family though and this song runs through my veins.

Play this song all night right now!
My roommate hates this song more than anything. I play this song every day to remind him of his continuous rage.
Your roommate is a dope...Probly likes Justin Bieber. Yup...
Exactly what I would do
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar
Lol! 🤣
I was partying with a bunch of good ole boys at Virginia Tech and we were lovin the sound. Classic Bluegrass!
There is some good Whiskey around there. I go to Tennessee all the time and boy it is sweet as caramel.
I wouldn’t live anywhere else!
I used to get mine from an old man at a place we called The Walls of Jericho which is right on the Alabama/Tennessee line. At the head of Paint Rock Valley. This mixed with peppermint candy, honey, and lemon was the best cough medicine you could get.
@@midsouth2strokes185 cant beat living a life in the smoky mountains

Bluegrass is the music that brings back memories of not only simpler times, but for me, happier times.
in the, early 70's when CB radios were the thing, "Rocky top" was my handle! the old days!
Does it mean you have a thick skull?
Hi "Rocky Top" I drove with the handle :Leprechaun"
I rode a lot and drove a little, my handle was Candy Pants.
I've been a truck driver for close to 30 yrs now. I've had the cb handle "BIGTIME" for close to 5hat same 30 yrs.
I swear I have friends that have been truck drivers almost as long as me & a lot of them only know me as "BIGTIME"...they probably don't know my 1st name.
Much love from Mobile Alabama.
Rest in peace Bobby Osborne The world will miss you
Just soaking it in after that great win against Bama.
One of my favorite songs. I've moved to Tennessee and love it here. I must visit Rocky Top.
Wild as a mink but sweet as soda pop, I still dream about that :)

Fantastic to see these two. Both my great-uncles and never have met them. Found out two years ago that we were related by my mother’s grandma’s last name, Osborne. Great to see them still inspiring younger generations like myself

I can't go through a week without listening to this. And I've never been anywhere near Tennessee....
This is some good ole country from Tennessee!!! I love ya up north in Iowa!
'
+Greg Stanley, I was born in Fort Worth, Texas , if i ever leave texas to live somewhere else it would be in Eastern Kentucky. My mom, papaw and meme (grandma) and others are from the Hazard/ Lothair area and i have always felt most at home in that part of the world.
smoking that bama pack 🚬
I was born in a small town in Northwest Florida, raised in a small town in Southwest Alabama. Been to Tennessee 6 or 7 times in my life, it's like a second home! My family and I have gone once a year for the past 3 years but were unable to go this past year due to wife losing her job. But every time I listen to this I go back the those Smokies in my memories.
Maybe we'll get to go back to Good Ol' Rocky Top soon.
That guy scares me, i can ply strinsg................
Could you please provide proof for your statements?
Music like this touches my soul in a way no other music can or will.
Who’s here after Tennessee beat Bama? THE 15 YEAR DROUGHT HAS FINALLY ENDED BABY!
Lived in Tn for 4 years and trying to get back…. Never understood until I left.
The people of Tn know and understand what everything means. Simple and subtle all at the same time. They have it figured out. Good ole rocky top woo!!!
This kids, is called BLUEGRASS/COUNTRY MUSIC BEING PLAYED AT IT'S FINEST!!!
I remember back when The Osborne Brothers WERE ABSOLUTE ROCK STARS!!!
I swear Bobby Osborne's voice is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS & A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE GREATEST BLUEGRASS VOICES TO EVER BE HEARD!!!
My dad loved The Osborne Brothers...my mom still has a few of their old albums & she still listens to them.
She said it brings back GREAT memories of my dad & her...NOW THAT'S TRULY AWESOME TO ME!!!
Much love from Mobile Alabama.
They absolutely nail this song, a lot of grit and pure sound coming from this one. Solid country gold!
