Naah, just kidding. This video was quite impromptu and just for fun.
I had this little crossover with Crash Bandicoot in mind for several months.

Was expecting Koishi to steal the aku aku mask, but Kokoro and Koishi just being cute weirdos over a shiny mask in the ocean is how Hopeless Masquerade should've ended.
I love how Kokoro and Koishi are portrayed as innocent children within the Touhou fandom, as well as having very few brain cells, curiosity, and stupidity. (mainly with Kokoro walking aimlessly into a box instead of jumping over it).
But in the end, they make a great duo whether they're friends or archnemesis, great stuff as always my friend.

Nice animation, it looks like Aku Aku’s been protecting crash for so long he forgot to take care for himself…. I guess. Well at least he found someone who does care for him during gameplay.
I wonder why Koishi is wondering by the river. Perhaps, fishing? But she doesnt have a rod, right?
It is just natural to see and contemplate the beauty of the ̶s̶e̶a̶ river.
As someone who grew up with Crash Bandicoot, I enjoyed this little crossover. Seeing Kokoro become friends with Aku Aku seems fitting for her. ^^
Kokoro and Koishi dialogue was the most epic thing besides the sdm exploding out of nowhere

I love Crash Bandicoot and I always took notice you use music from the series a lot, nice to see an animation that just crossovers it haha
Love seeing another one of your Touhou animations. Haven't played too much of Crash, but it was still cool seeing elements of it used here, and seeing Kokoro and the other Touhou characters interact with them.
Then there's the moment Kokoro dashed through the whole SDM. As soon as Sakuya and Remilia popped up, I figured their first thought would have been "Here it comes..." prior to it exploding. Lol
Honestly, I was kind of expecting Kokoro to put the mask on Koishi's face to deal with its haywire power, especially since the former doesn't really like her (unless Kokoro lightened up on Koishi post-HM and I just didn't know that).
We even get a stinger showing Youmu's still looking for the items on Kogasa's list, so this one too is connected with the prior animations. That's neat.
Anyway, another nice animation here. As usual, looking forward to the next one.
I'm probably a bit late for this, but Aku Aku's (that's the name of the mask- he's actually a sentient being) supercharged powers ran out _just_ before Kokoro ran into Koishi. In Crash games, Aku Aku is trapped inside those crates that have his face on it, and opening it frees him, protecting Crash from one hit. He turns gold upon a second crate being broken, allowing him to absorb a second hit and if a third crate is broken, that's when Crash gains _temporary_ invincibility (the music used for that section is the invincibility theme from the original Crash trilogy).
Also when invincible, Crash will automatically break open crates just by touching them, like what happens during Kokoro's initial blast-off after gaining invincibility (this is also why she's unharmed by barreling through those Nitro and TNT crates).
Specifically at 2:23. There, you can hear the sound effect for Aku Aku losing power, as noted earlier during Aku Aku's flashback at 0:57 where he reverts to his base state after Crash takes a hit, and this is why Aku Aku comes off explicitly at that moment.
That's just one of the Crash references. There are a couple of others.
When Kokoro breaks the crate that turns Aku Aku golden to begin with, it causes a pile of TNT crates to fall. TNT crates explode immediately if attacked, but if they are jumped on or fall, they'll instead start counting down before exploding.
The Nitro crates bouncing slightly is in fact a thing they do in actual Crash games (complete with that sound effect), likely to show their volatility: They explode at all but the slightest touch as those two fairies trick that other fairy into discovering the hard way. The other fairy's shoes even fall to the ground in the same way that Crash's do when he's blown up by an explosive crate. As an aside, they both also have slightly different sound effects when exploding, which is on full-display in this video.
The scene Kokoro starts in in is specifically based off the island levels in the GBA title Crash Bandicoot: N-Tranced, and given the lack of a volcano background, is likely based explicitly on the first level, Island Intro.

I know which movie you mean (The Mask, 1994). That movie crossed through my mind while doing this lol.
