TOMAS - Cut and cover tunnel technology

- The TOMAS Surface Tunneling technology is based on three innovations:
1. Building a semi circular tunnel from the surface in soils with high water table without draining or pumping out the sub-surface water.
2. Removing the soil mixed with water within a half round shield with standard cutter dredging technology adapted for this application.
3. Using standard segmented tunneling sections to shape the tunnel, but fixing these segments with post-tensioning under a continuous precast or cast on site concrete beam fixed and supported or held by rakes of piles.
Benefits of this technology are:
- Short construction time because of fast building (50-80 mtrs/day)
- Low investment cost
- Limited construction space required
- No ground dewatering required
- Soil removal by dredging is the cheapest way of moving soil
- Material transport can be done through finished tunnel
- Minimum impact on the environment
- Use is made of well-known technologies
- Innovative construction method with international potential

Easily a contender for documentary of the year. Fascinating, non-biased, gripping account of the rise of TOMAS.
It's 2019 and I'm still thinking about TOMAS
im in 2020 now

love the disappearing dirt design feature.
we dont need to hear fraking tomas every 20 secs.
..And despite saying "TOMAS" about 250 times during the video, not once did we hear what the acronym is short for.
T.O.M.A.S. TO Much Advertising Slogan
+shedasaurus Exactly. Love the technology but this video is VERY POORLY made.
+shedasaurus
boring with this video
Amazing technology ever created by modern machine that dredge the world remove the silt or any deposits, canal or underwater dredging or reclamation works
No more roads, more teleportation nodes!
SUPER MACHINE!!!
"Lorries" said in an American style accent, interesting.
Deep state codeword, buried in a seemingly mundane, random way.
TOMAS TOMAS TOMAS TOMAS TOMAS
Good for us.
If you have the space to build this, you can do it overground, you need underground when you go under cities....
I was thinking the same thing.... did they think this through when designing the machine? if they needed to make the roads below grounds it's because the there's already an infrastructure above ground. if they needed a structure above ground why make a trench just to build a road... the only thing I can see that's a benefits is the noise pollution reduction this didn't help if there's landslides or floods I wonder if this can be used in the Midwest where tornados can rip off houses... at least this way the roads will never be blocked except in case of accidents.
Exactly! Plus, I don't know if this falls under the tunnel definition... It's more like a trench?
What software do you use Tomas
Toma,Tomas, Tomaaaaaaass!!!...🤪
Tomas should try skateboarding half-pipe [-*.
The biggest problem here is the high watertable.
And it's not shown how they solved that problem.....
Where the digging takes place, the water table is not shown, but don't worry its gonna be a dredging pool.
In reality this means they are placing the prefab concrete elements under water.....
This will never work.
Or behind the cutter a bulkhead can be placed, but water will flow in directly where they are placing the concrete elements.
You need to stabilise the soil.
This can only be done by lowering the watertable, which is not needed they said.
Or by cementing or freezing the soil, very expensive.
I don't see how this is gonna work in reality.
+Martijn martijn Right. No mention of pumps. Also, this seems to be "Cut and Cover" without any cover. And if you're at the surface, why not just drop in pre-fab segments rather than building the segments from smaller slabs? Even better, pour the segment at the back of the unit and then drop it into the hole once it cures... though that might take too long.
They could use this system for HS1...
Either those trees in the background at the end of the video are 100 meters high or this tunnel is toy scale
it's just a photo put in the animation dude.
btw he is my grandpa.
+Boaz Lips relax and just think of Tomas.
you're right let everyone take a minute of silence and remember Tomas
it could be just optical illusion the green grass looks wide but not iono.
Thomas the tank engine.
Turn the speed up to 2 x times to watch this video.
its tomas the tank engine!!!
its not to bad of a idea,,,,,,
When they pay for this I hope they go Dutch.
I don't see any advantage from building a bed and laying rails. Seems a bit dumb.
This is stuped..they should use the --monorail--from Allwig of Sweden..like Disnee
TOMAS
Why is the technology called TOMAS if the technology is called druncher?

The One Moron Always Saying - TOMAS!
Simple cut and cover made complicated. Why?
НА РАБОТУ ВОЗЬМЁТЕ??
tomas
What relevance has the name "TOMAS" got to do with this video or this machine, or anything else for that matter?
We are being told to "think TOMAS" but for what??? this machine, the company or what???
To be an effective advertisement I want to see a real machine, if one exists.
The Inventor of Tomas must have been smoking too much.........
This technology is WAY too complicated - anything would be better...
I'm high as fuck.

TOMAS TOMAS TOMAS TOMAS... brain drain...
Deep state codeword not so buried in mundane video. Often used for pizza/sex trafficking orders - tomas referring to male 'pizzas'.
when i watch shit like this i start to believe youtube has been invaded by moron aliens...and jaap ketel is their king
I expected this to be quite interesting but the presentation is so annoying I had to just leave it !
I hate that name
Avoid the tedium of this cretinous explanation
Agree. 11:40 too long.
The articulated arm at the front is overly complicated. Just use a standard tunneling rig like the kind they use to make actual tunnels for rail lines. Also, it seems like it would be far more efficient to just drop in the completed sections rather than building each segment from smaller segments. Also, we don't need to hear the name of this really stupid technology every ten fucking seconds!!!
BORING AND DUMB !
