I don't get it. When I start the process at the very beginning, I don't know why but the moment I play with repeater and I start changing the angle, it shapes me the David's Star. Help hahaha

Love this! Is there any way to make it without the surrounding background? I put an image in the iris and looped. Though when i export, it comes with full rectangle background. I've keyed it in Premiere to use there, but would like to make into a gif on AE.
I may have to repeat this tutorial with transparent background

Which age AE you use? cause in my CC 2018 there is also no "Parent & Link", there is just "Parent"
I use AE CC 2018. Some people are like you, I don't know why. See the comments below to see the same situation you are experiencing
Press and hold "Alt" on PC and then left click on anchor point. This will show the "Pick Whip" icon.
I am new to After Effects. Is this also possible with negative space instead of the white outline? I can't achieve this since I have to offset each copy by a certain amount but in local coordinates and not in global/document coordinates (i.e. each shutter blade has to move to the right in its own space). I need this animation to have a transparent background and only the shutter blades with space between them shall be visible. I need it for an Unity project. Or do I have to give everything that I want to be transparent a certain color?
When you hide the background, you will have a transparent between the shutter, you will see this when you turn on the Toggle Transparency Grid ( imgbbb.com/image/lwjc2 ). @@OctopusEffects thank you for your quick reply and help. First of all, I found a solution this morning where I add the "Shift Channels" effect to the shape layer and set "Take Alpha From" to "Lightness" thus making the outline/stroke transparent. As for the rest and the solid black layer I found a tutorial that recommended to enable "Track Matte" on the shape layer and choose "Alpha Inverted Matte ..."
I am sure this is not the only possible approach and maybe it's not the most efficient but it works.
Thank you however for guiding me towards the Toggle Transparency Grid button - I could not find it until now. And also thank you for this great tutorial. You really do know how to handle this complicated piece of software! :)

When editing video, has been wrong, Sorry for that. Select Shape Layer 2, and select Add -> Eclipse to create ellipse path.

hi, some people have asked me this question as well. It seems to be due to the difference in AE versions. Try looking in the comments and you may find your answer

I couldn't parent the anchor points the way you did it in your video. Cause I didn't visualize the parent symbols within the layer. They appear restricted to the layers not to command within the same layer. Where did I go wrong? LOL Thanks
