    Thank you, Sisi Boni, for this valuable conversation. I hear Sipho state where graduates must go when they want to enter the industry, but it is not easy, so every place has its own language. I've noticed something our education system failed us, a few months ago President said that" we just don't have Good Planners". while we do have people who hold bachelor's with Dean's Merit & Master's Degrees, but there are no good planners, which means education is just a business nowadays.
    the advice that I can give final year students, if you don't want to stay home next year, please do apply for postgraduate studies, and then you'll try to apply for a job while you are studying your postgrad.

    My advice to graduates and matriculants: Avoid the diploma, aim for the BengTech, Bsc/Beng and if you are forced to do the diploma make sure you do the advanced diploma immediately afterwards.
    There is no work, and no money for diploma graduates.

    • @liferesetwithboni
      @liferesetwithboni  Před 9 měsíci +1

      hey bhuti, what if I dont qualifiy for university? University of technology and TVET is not a good idea now? and if so, why cos all this infrastructure we had in the 80s and 90s came from these Diploma graduates and it was solid. Why change whats working? I know you are not government , lol.

    • @user-xp6fl7ic1u
      @user-xp6fl7ic1u Před 9 měsíci

      My friends in the industry used to say so, according to my understanding, things have changed. even my lecture at my undergrad level was used to emphasize us to do Postgraduate studies because the workplace is not favorable. I can say there is a big gap between the workplace and the EDU system because most students graduate & become a part of the unemployment rate nowadays. Especially in the Engineering fields.

    • @ttmkhari
      @ttmkhari Před 9 měsíci

      @@liferesetwithboniThe problem is that technicians generally work in maintenance and they solve well defined problems. These opportunities are limited because of governments failing policies and municipalities not managing budgets to maintain infrastructure.
      Some(or most) private consulting companies only hire technologists and Engineers. They have a policy of not hiring technicians. Hence, if you do a job search now, you will hardly find any jobs looking for a technician.
      So BengTech is offered at university of technology, and some universities (UJ, UNISA…). This is what replaced the Btech. If one does not qualify for the BengTech, they can still do the diploma but with a mindset of eventually getting an advanced diploma. This means they must endeavour to get high marks (65%-70%) so they can qualify for an advanced diploma (formally known as Btech).
      I would not advice one to go the TVET route unless they don’t have a choice. If you go through this route you must endeavour to eventually get to the Btech/Adv.Dip level if you want a meaningful career.

    • @siphomadlala8516

      I partially agree with you, but some T and S series diploma holders with a wealth of experience and some short courses in hand hold high positions in some of the reputable companies and earn decent salaries too

      To cut it short, if you have dimpola, no experience. Bare in mind that the competition is high, you'll compete with people who are holding Bachelors & Masters. So you'll end up being unemployable.
      So do postgrad or some certificates, you'll thank me later.

    Easily put guys, When you go to a traditional [Beng/BSc] University you can register to be a candidate Engineer straight from Varsity. When you go to a university of Technology you can do a [Beng tech] and you'd need a [Beng tech Hons] then an MSc to be a Candidate Engineer but if you don't want that you can register as a candidate Technologist. But if you do a diploma you need an advance diploma then an honors and then an MSc to be registered as a candidate Engineer. As someone whose studied at all 3 levels I'd advise going to do a BSc or Beng Engineering for 4years at a traditional university as it gives you direct access to candidacy which is the most ideal role.

    Some engineering programs in higher education need to be reevaluated because there is an increasing number of civil engineers who are currently unemployed, even as more graduates are being produced. It's time for a reassessment. advice for final year students maintain good grades then bridge out from engineering to ComSci postgraduate studies you'll smile alone later.

    Eii sis Bonny this industry is very bad now but what i can advise is that if you have a diploma and can’t find internships one can try to register with ECSA as a candidate technician though you register with money and it has annual fees but it can better your chances of getting a job.
    But as for matriculations no guys go for BEng or Bsc if you wanna be a civil engineer and make sure you have a busary/sponsor there after you struggle that much.

    the curriculum has changed, BEng Tech is not the same as Diploma, BEng Tech is NQF level 7 then diploma is NQF level 6. BEng tech is now offered at the universities too. And since the diploma is phasing out people who have a diploma are required to do BEng tech. I'm a Civil Engineering student at UJ but what I'm still confused about is that our lectures told us that a technologist (NQF 7) and a technician (NQF6) are not the same but how ?🤔

      The Diploma is basically new (Not phasing out) which has 360 SAQA credits, Only the National Diploma(240 SAQA credits) is phasing out. Having the Diploma NQF 6 enables one to register with ECSA as a candidate engineering technician, upon fulfilling candidacy requirements one is eligible to register a Professional engineering technician. Bengtech and Advanced Diploma are NQF 7 and they are the benchmark qualifications for an Engineering Technologist.
