INTJ here. Ni hero. It’s funny that you bring up the Ni critic for INTP. I find that I keep asking him... “What do you want? Why aren’t you taking the steps to get it?” He will always respond by saying, “I don’t feel I deserve it. I should (deny myself) do this first or that instead.” Then I would tell him, “That’s not really what you want. Why not create a plan to get what you actually want?”
So my Ni hero has been helping him but it’s like pulling taffy... it just takes so long to get him to action.
We do compliment each other well. His strengths are my weaknesses and my strengths are his weaknesses. We have so much potential together. And he’s, he is extremely and fiercely loyal to me! He’s a great INTP bf!

Good advice. Ti is about logic. Logic states if logic can't solve the problem you need to go to the tool in your stack that can. When I was looking for a girlfriend I knew logic and Si comfort weren't going to get me what I wanted, but Fe charisma and Ne humor might. If we can transition to our ESFJ subconscious we have all the tools, just less developed.

  • @hunter7nine
    @hunter7nine Před 3 lety +51

Great video and analysis. You're right about Ti as a hero function. When paired with Ne, it is like a gift from the gods. Like any INTP, I've always struggled to get started or to see something to the finish by sheer willpower alone. What I've found helps is essentially leaping into an activity when my Ne-interest is peaking and then binding myself with Fe-like social commitments that I feel I can't back out of, especially if I've tied them to my self identity, which is bound to Ti (i.e. "yes, of course I can draft that paper and get it to you by x deadline - this stuff is easy for me..."). There's a little braggadocio going on there, but there's also no way I'm going to fail in the task if it means the Fe tribe is going to think I'm stupid or not gifted. I'm an INTP, so of course it means that it takes me two weeks of procrastinating and watching videos on CZcams and then working furiously through the night the day before it's due, but I've learned to trust that powerful Ti/Ne combo to do what it does best in the sub-conscious, so when I'm up against a deadline I can just crank out the work. Eventually it becomes habit and you can rise above the pointless, menial jobs and tasks that young INTPs think will forever be their lot in life. There's a great poem by Charles Bukowski that I think gets right to the heart of your message in this video... good stuff for any INTP or INFP to consider:
The Laughing Heart by Charles Bukowski
    your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
    be on the watch.
    there are ways out.
    there is light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
    it beats the darkness.
    be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
    know them.
    take them.
    you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
    your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
    you are marvelous
    the gods wait to delight
    in you.

You're probably the best INTP channel on youtube, and it's definitely cool to hear from another INTP named Tyler. I'd like to hear your thoughts on a topic, specifically the idea of figuring out what, as an INTP, one would truly want. I can come up with solutions all day, but it's one question that vexes me every day, overcoming the idea of "what exactly is it that I truly want?" It's probably Ni causing so much self doubt, but I was wondering if you might have some wisdom on that front as well, perhaps in a video of yours I just haven't watched yet.

Would be great to here your thought on using Ni is a positive way (specifically the INTP way) to help us figure out what we DO truly want. I've had problems with this, as when I ask myself "what do I really want?" I can immediately ask "but why should i want that?". I guess it's the Ti/Ne combo looking at every possibility and second guessing any desires with an Ni critic. How do you go down the existential rabbit hole with Ti logic and return with a good answer that is actually motivating for action in real life? Just a simple little problem!

Nice-- this helps me get the whole self abnegation thing-- CONSTANT self abnegation. Then the avoidance of all personal preferences is amplified by tier 8 Fi, so self knowledge is distant (or right in front of me if I LOOK). And the Ni critic stuff is cool to hear because I've always looked very closely at my own shortcomings, and give other people room in arguments, which is a luxury they take advantage of. If they lack wide cognition, they won't even realize they're dominating the conversation because I'm allowing them to, despite knowing every problem I see in their approach. They don't realize my silence comes from intense analysis of personal conceits I'm avoiding.
Ni also makes me fail to say things because I think they'll be obvious, since I devalue my thinking. But every time I'm vocal about simple ideas, they're mindblowing to others.
If you're an INTP and can be matter of fact about saying your thoughts (be nonchalant!), they're usually completely insightful to others even though they're banal to you. But nothing is grosser than displaying smartness, especially with benign thinking, so be conversational always. Have your thinking be an insane superpower with a completely simple/6th grade level verbalization. Go for ease and say the first thing. Don't hesitate for words or verbiage either.

And from my experience, the community has tended to be a bit stingy about information like this until quite recently. I only realized after just watching this video, how much I've been criticizing my wants, desires, and intentions. I thought it was just me living in a Ti-Si loop and being too lazy. But it may actually be the reason we get stuck in the loop in the first place is because of the Ni critic. Maybe we should call it the Ti-Si-Ni Loop. So many missed opportunities and wasted time... We’re not meant to rely solely off faith and hope. We need more evidence that we will get the results we are looking for. Having a solid game plan for all aspects of life can help us to let go and trust the process more. Ultimately, we can just be in the moment and hammer out work once we trust that we’ve made that right decisions.

Understanding my problem perfectly doesn't mean I can solve it. I know I have flawed convictions (like "no one is trustworthy") but that doesn't mean my instinct will ever let me trust people

Do other people also feel that actually finishing things brings you closer to death? Not crossing things from the to-do-list of life makes you feel kind of younger.. I wanted to make a comment on the fact that you kept repeating how Ni critic is probably the worst critic function. I am also an Si child (INFP), and I relate heavily to the struggles you mentioned regarding Ni critic. However, we have to be aware of the innate solipsism that accompanies Si child, we are entirely unaware of what other people are experiencing.
I believe that each of the cognitive attutides are condusive for every type. Sure, society may accept some than others, like an Se critic for example. But nonetheless, they all provide the same frustration & hardship to the individual.
The person I am dating has Ne critic, and it manifests in OCD-esque behavior, and lots of paranoia. Everything really is just a different side of the same coin!

A great solution on several levels...virtual high 5! It jogged my memory of something Abraham Lincoln did during the Civil War. He was intensely frustrated with a general's performance. Lincoln penned a letter to the general in which is voiced his frustrations plainly and clearly. Lincoln didn't send out the letter. It was found in his desk after his death. Ole Abe gave his frustrations a safe space to be expressed and could move on to other things and that energy wouldn't hijack him at some random moment.
On another level -- this practice puts one in an observer mode with the critic. Kinda sitting side-by-side with part of ourselves. In Carl Jung's pyschology, we have a cast of inner character who all need to be heard...and when they are ignored or suppressed they revolt directly or indirectly.
Kudos for coming up with this solution. Ole Abe and Dr. Jung are giving you *the nod*

    • @dxfifa
      @dxfifa Před 3 měsíci

@@intpsurvivalguide2473 We don't use Ni except when we would give up but the problem is urgent, we use Si and think that it's Ni, and because we misidentify our Si as Ni we treat it as a new idea that needs Ne run on it anyway, not realising our Ne and Si already made the idea some time ago but we'd forgotten about it. By the very nature of it, genuine Ni is both shocking to an INTP, and usually very poor due to lack of Se. This exact process is how we update our Si patterns
The smarter you are as an INTP, the more this false Ni that is actually incredibly deep Ne converted into Si, usually with ideas we rejected or deemed unimportant. But think about it, we've all thought about almost everything at one time or another and analysed it. It doesn't just cease to be because the actual idea isn't consciously accessible, the pattern that the brain recognised is still there. INTPs tend to be the best type at pattern recognition on IQ tests for a reason.
The only time an INTP gets true Ni is when something is so foreign or confusing we do not have an Si pattern to use and Ti and Ne have no answers.
You know that rare feeling when you just don't get "why" in a class and it feels like your IQ dropped by 50 points and you get a headache because you're trying to focus really hard on the material and just get it instead of being able to work it out? That's Ni and Se trying (usually very poorly) to get the information Ti needs to solve the problem because Ne and Si have failed and it needs to be done now. I get this all the time with physical tasks I don't conceptually understand

But I don't see it as the Ne critic being wrong, just out of balance. The world would be a much better place if more people hesitated before acting on what they want. Providing a sense of direction and purpose for the INTP’s exploration of ideas and possibilities with Ne and Ti.

Listen friend. I really appreciate you discussing this topic. However, I don’t see the fact that we lack in a function, to be a flaw. Just because we can improve something does not mean that we should. I only watched till minute 12 so maybe that’s the reason we are not on the same page.
The reason why I feel strongly about this, is that for quite some time, I tried to improve my fe strongly, because I felt there’s something “wrong” with me. The Ni critic actually saved my life. It told me that what I was going after is not what I should go after. Without it... to this day I would probably be chasing Fe development which is not so good, because we should learn to embrace our strong points more than try to improve ourselves. I know you try to teach with perfect intentions. I just wanted to share this information with you as a person, so that you can maybe learn to embrace all your functions AND the way that they are stronger than one another. I’d focus on just living and accepting myself than just trying to improve a “flawed?” sense of self. We are great the way we are. Ni may be a good wake up call to us, as nothing in the world really matters. NJ’s have high Ni because they do in fact believe that things really matter. I don’t think we do. For example... if I ask you how important your channel is to your life goals right now, and what it would take you to remove it. An NJ would be like “no way on earth because ___ ___ ____”. I’m sure if you aren’t working on function development, you would answer closely to saying it’s not really essential to anything. Because you don’t need anything other than food and water. Even that can be hacked. :)

hello ive just recently found out about the Ni critic yes it is very detrimental it doesnt let us trust our instinct, doesnt let us even try to predict whats behind, we didnt want the assuming part.
Ni, though is assuming. it is willpower as u said. and this willpower is supposed to project onto us how we will achieve stuff. it is the great intuition of jumping to conclusion, so im not sure if im being wrong here, but im still seeing a bit of reason to be careful in jumping in conclusion.
next, PLEASE i would like to see an INTP to ENTJ trandformation guide. I believe the ENTJ shadow will help to be an executor of (heads) the project we will deem worthy. NxJ is the side of personalities that executes.

Thank you for your video. I'd like to add some perspective to your video because I don't think some of the info is right. For instance you talked about INTJ and the relationship between introverted intuition and willpower. However, the willpower doesn't come from the cognitive function itself, it comes from the individual accepting its pull. Just like other types, many INTJs feel stuck, procrastinate, suffer from diseases and mental health fluctuations. A person grounded in themself and their cognitive preferences will come off as confident and/or unapologetic regardless of the type.

Later I think you said because you didn't think you were worth it. But you did mention because you didn't want to do the work. Funny he says that Ni critic is usually self inflicted, my Ni critic makes me think the worst of people and even one mistake can make me unhealthily assume the worst of someone and sadly I can be really hard on people unecassarily, I struggle with it a lot and trying to assume the best of people is really hard, and sometimes I even just hypothesize how bad a conversation is gonna go if I vent my feelings
