It's not a criminal offence to give a false name to police at all unless it's lawfully required ie under arrest or suspected of a crime
I noticed the other day, Reggie Photo gave a false name, but the officer he spoke to was in plain clothes and hadn't actually identified as a police officer. What's the best thing to do, ask if it's a lawful request?

E A Personally I would of said to the constable talk to the person who made the complaint and left it at that, As you quite rightly said you're in a public place and no crime has been committed by your good self

My guess is case law exists suggesting the limits. At least the terms eg “grossly offensive “ will be explained & explored. That may be defined elsewhere in law.
There freedom of speech / human rights as your trump card - but a Barrister needs to argue this for you.
