Hi Elias, what Abera said about Dr, Terefe's execution and Sirak Tegbaru's role is truthful. What he has not mentioned was, it was Dima Gudina, Merara's brother, who was later killed by the same Derg squad (Nebelbal) at Ambo city that also perpetrated the massacres on 10 members of Meison in Toke.

What exactly happened over 44 years ago when I was between 15 and 16 years old? You should ask Dr. Merera to tell you the truth about how his brother was killed; I know he has his version of the event that occurred more than 44 years ago.

I had undertaken the investigation more than 28 years ago that unravelled the facts and brought to court of law that Abera Yemaneab referred to. Regardless wheather justice was done or not, the raw facts as to who were involved in the brief but brutal episode of taking the excutioneers from Toke village, a place located few kilometers from Guder town to Merar's uncle house, where the victims were sheltered and the wanton massacre of the victims that left tattered body prey to flying vultures, up to the murder of Dima Gudina were graphically testified by the local farmer eye witnesses with their sworn and genuine statments to court. Sadly, neither Amare Tegbaru nor Merara Gudina are honest to their former commrades to give realistic pictures of the killings and involvement of their brothers on this unfortunate incident. It is time that both of them speak the truth. I know atleast both Sirak Tegbaru and Dima Gudina had willy nilly led and shown the killers the whereabouts of the victims and almost certainly tipped the order giver and the middle man that was repeatedly mentioned by Abera. I felt compelled to reveal these facts to concur with Abera's statment and to honour victims family rights to know the truth. I am not interested to talk on the political backgrounds of the victims as much as to comment on the fairness of the justice machinery that reviewed the case. Finally, what is very disgusting to me still now is the attempt to comouflage the wrongs done by the surviving comrades and pseudo-politicians. In one of his article published on the Reporter Amharic paper, Amare exerted so much to cleanse himself and most importantly his brother from this tragic killings connections based on the phony "affidavits" that he claimed to have on his possession given by his brother from Canada, a grand joke, best described in Amharc, "የአይጥ ምስክር ድንቢጥ" On the other hand Merara, never disclosed on his book atleast the most plain facts of how the execution was perpetrated since his brother to whom the book was dedicated, was also involved.
May God save the souls of all these victims who suffered tragic extra judicial excutions in the hand of the military regime and help surviving comrades of the victims be bold enough to tell the truth and repent than confusing the facts against the deceased.
Finally, I know there are many people that were involved in this incident forcibly or with full cooperation. The level of criminal involvement may vary but I want to tell you squarely that even if no one stand upright to reveal the truth, the guilt nonthless continue to haunt the minds of these persons that were complicit to the act. It is better to tell the truth and free oneself from guilty feelings and seek the forgivness of our lord, victims loved once and their descendants. Brother! let us rise up from petty hidding of facts and speak out to help other people learn from it. I am sure that you will not throw a foolish and ill-advised slur that this is just another version from "a certain Woyane special prosecutor" as Merara, with his well-known innuendo characterized me on his book. After all, I have my own self-respect for truth!
