    Adjust belt tension, then check auto clutch alignment, then adjust brake strap. In that order. Remember, while you don't want a belt that is too loose you don't want one too tight either or the drive pulley will attempt to grab it and start to burn it up. Don't forget to go back and check the tension again after the first few hours on a new belt and then every 50 (we do 100) hours after that.

    how does one figure out the figures: 7/16" deflection with 18 lbs of force?

      WILSON! I realize your comment is an old one but a belt tension gauge has the distance measurement as well as the pound measurement on it. Not very expensive and very very helpful to own.
