just realized nero stabbing vergil while saying "it's your turn" works as a meta joke because between the sons of sparda, vergil was never stabbed with his own sword like dante always was.

@@windwind3170 Yeah, but that was to himself. Almost every other time, Dante was being stabbed by someone else, so Vergil's first stab technically doesn't count.
Actually, in the Manga, he's stabbed with Yamato by one of the demons that invades the Sparda manor in the event of his mother's death. That's how he unlocks Devil Trigger.

@@dappercrown46 Gameplay-wise, his playstyle adds a lot variety. Storywise, he's an interesting way to develop Vergil, letting him percieve his own actions from the outside and showing us the more human side (ha!) of Vergil that was buried under that stoic lust for power. Too bad being 5% demon still meant he held that lust for power. I'm still deciding hwo good the execution was.

norman ellis I never really saw it as a lust for abstract power without a specific plan to use it other than to HAVE it like Urizen or Vergil... And I can't really condemn a suddenly crippled and dying man in constant pain for wanting more power in order to save his own life. I certainly would in that position. Nero wants more power too, especially after losing his arm, wanting to protect people he cares about. In the prequel novel, V tells Nero he'll be staying in Redgrave during the month Nero's focussed on his recovery to gather intel on what's happening, but that's a bald-faced lie; he already knows everything. He stays to evacuate who he can, even Griffon expressing his surprise that V, in his own words, wants to help the humans. Those aren't the actions of a man on a simple power trip.

Everyone laughs but Dante.
It's not clear whether he's not laughing because he doesn't know what that means or because he does. Either implication is both hilarious and terrible in their own right.
Dante doesn't reference it as much as, say, Vergil does, but he's pretty well read. At least as much as to use a line from Shakespeare in the correct context for the situation.
I think it's pretty much a given that he understood what an Oedipus complex is, especially since it's _Shakespeare_ he's referenced.

See I always thought Dante would end up with Lady if he ever stopped being the unlucky bachelor. Mainly cause of the whole "Trish is a physical clone of Eva" bit.
Though part of the reason I think Dante and Lady would get together is partially due to the fact that I saw a picture of Reuben and his wife cosplaying as Dante and Lady and it looked too perfect.

You know what's the best, though? Quadruple S. The mere concept of it, and what it implies about the Style Meter.
Woolie says that the Style Meter is "100% mental", but Quadruple S suggests otherwise. Dante is actually DRAWING POWER FROM STYLE. If he can maintain an SSS Style Rating, he can effectively stay in Sin DT Form *forever.* Somehow, Dante has mastered the art of Style to the point where he can actually use Style as a Demonic power source.

Woolie's uncontainable giggles from sheer joy always puts a dumb grin on my face
Actually, the reason why Urizen wasn't crumbling like V is because he was on the throne.
While on the throne, he was using the vine tentacles from his body to feed off of the tree, constantly increasing his power while also stabilizing his physical body so he wouldn't flake away. Once he ate the fruit, he had so much power that it essentially canceled out the disintegration.
V had no such method of draining power, hence why he was dying.
It's in the Patrick's nature to be wrong due to the power of his stand. So it is written.
It would seem possible that part of the contract of power between V and his familiars, that V must be the one to slay any demons he comes across. I don't believe they are incapable of doing so, as they also intended to kill Dante once freed (it would be silly to just almost kill him, to have him regen his health and finish them off). Instead, since they rely on V to exist, they lay up the shot for V to take, then reap the benefits of the symbiosis.
This could actually be staying his degeneration to a point, and would equally contrast his Demonic counterpart's harvesting of human blood, poetically speaking. A human side harvesting demons, and a demon side harvesting humans - both scratching and clawing at the chance for life and power.
Yomi Knishes I agree with that mostly, absorbing all the power into his cane. Only thing that detracts from that is Nightmare can kill demons by using promotion but then again this can be attribute to Nightmare being mindless and not thinking about the fact that V needs to delay his death by using demon essence.
I heard once that V describes his familiar's powers are akin to dreams. As such, while they can physically interact and damage demons, they are dreams, and can't deal the final blow, which is why V must.
That's what I heard, anyway, it's been a while, so I may be remembering some details wrong. Take this with a grain of salt.
@@CaliburovX4 Well they are kind of dreams: Griffon states to Dante that they were born out of the twisted thoughts and nightmares left over from Vergil's time as Nelo Angelo, hence why they take the form of three other bosses from DMC1.

Not surprising. It was a feature cut from DMC4. It’s final design is nearly identical to the DMC4 concept art, minus Rebellion transforming into a bladed tail.
So its inclusion in DMC5 was pretty much guaranteed. I really enjoy how they integrated it into the narrative, rather than it being a random or offscreen upgrade.

Well I mean his dad did carve the weapons out of his own soul. Imagine how strong Sparda must have been before he met Eva. Because he carved out two swords out of his soul and was still able to bang and live about six years.
That's actually my explanation for what happened to Sparda. After crafting three weapons out of his own soul, he might not have had the strength to live.

Isn’t there a mode that allows you to play every mission with every character any way? You can probably just play through the whole game as Vergil out of the box.
If Vergil does have his own story, I would prefer it to be an epilogue to the main game. But I don’t really expect that. They could surprise me.

My favorite thing about this game is that it proves you can aim for realistic graphics without tying yourself down to "realism."
So, after all this time, I think Woolie's theory on Nico's van being a devil arm might hold water. I did some research a bit ago into if there are any minotaur style monsters in DMC, and there is. In DMC2 of all games, one of the bosses is a fire minotaur. It is entirely possible that one of them were used as a basis to create the Minotaurus that Nico drives.

You know something I was expecting to happen that didn't? V being shown to be afraid of Malphas due to Malphas being one of the ones that attacked Eva as kids or something. Actually, Malphas overall feels like a waste of a character.
And having Urizen working with her would show how little humanity was left in him.
@@freaknr1 YES It would show how Urizen's desire for power had swallowed everything else, including his original reason for desiring power (his family's inability to protect themselves from demons), something that otherwise is mostly just implied with how he talks with Dante before their final battle.

She commands Cavalier and all the other lesser demons to protect the smaller Qlipoth roots. When Nero brushes her away like it's nothing shows just how extremely powerful human blood is.

coming back, I really do think there's more significance to Griffon's final words. Their end signifies the end of Vergil's nightmares, so I think we really are meant to assume that V's character growth carried over to Vergil. His demons are defeated, metaphorically and literally.

The craziest thing is s apparently V was just fighting stuff in Redgrave City for the month between the prologue and mission 10 and the rest of the game.

That intro will always be one of the best SBFP moments.
Some speculation regarding Rebellion. If the whole 'Yamato splits, Rebellion combines' theory holds true. Then when Dante was first stabbed by the sword, he absorbed a part of his father Sparda into himself and unlocked the Devil Trigger.
Stabbed the second time around, he then absorbed the sword fully and Sparda. meaning he has further absorbed his father into himself. Which is why he can create a sword of his own name, because Sparda could.
rebellion combining doesn't really fit with what it's shown to do in the other games though.

Yeah, this was either all planned out by Itsuno with DMC3, or they pulled an Oda level retcon to make something fit into the lore.

I mean Dante has experience with Reasons of another sort already. From his time....elsewhere.
But he literally is. His reason for getting drawn back into the world of demons when he was just happy being a mercenary, his reason for unlocking his demonic power, obtaining and unlocking the force edge, etc. None of that would have happened if Vergil wasn’t an asshole and unknowingly leading Dante onto his path of following in their father’s footsteps.
The William Blake reference is quaint, but it’s also entirely accurate to Dante’s character arc. Vergil’s title is “the Alpha and the Omega” not because he is godlike in any way, but because he is the beginning and the end of Dante’s character arc.

Yeah Nero and Kyrie do a lot of charity work and have even brought in a couple orphans to feed. Probably orphans that lost their parents during the DMC4 incident.
He is literally a demi-god. He wouldn’t have expected a humanoid demon like himself and Dante to just walk into his home and rip his arm off. His guard was down just because he didn’t think of the possibility.
