  • We don't have anything like this in North Dakota!
The Eisenhower Locks are part of a system of locks on the Saint Lawrence Seaway which serve to raise and lower ships on their travels between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes.

My dad worked there and my mom would bring me and my siblings there to have a picnic and watch my dad at work while the big ships came through. This was in the 90's, It was pretty cool, I think I remember there being a gift shop or something too.

Very cool place! I had last been here in the 1980s, so it was interesting to revisit and see it in scale to 30+ me rather than little kid me. I remembered it as bigger.

This lock is on the St. Lawrence River. The series of Locks were designed to gradually lower the water level as the St. Lawrence River flows to the ocean and make it passable for the ships of the day. (It's a little small now.)
