    This demo is the best sounding one on CZcams of this unit - superb tone and great playing, however I’d be intrigued to find out out how this has been achieved, because all the other videos of the am plug have a scratchy horrible spike in the upper treble register. I’ve just bought one (out of inquisitiveness) but I must say I’ve found it to be extremely ‘toppy’ without the mid warmth that Brian’s sound normally has. There is far too much treble (even with the tone off). The gain is also a little thin as well, without the full body that it should have. And before you ask, yes, I have a very good sounding Red Special. I’m certainly not trying to be contrary, but I’m puzzled to how this clip was accomplished with such a good sound ???

    • @thrmns4841

      Thanks Martin for your kind words. My settings are approx: gain: 9 / 10 tone: 3.5 -4 volume 5. I get what you mean being it toppy. I think the secret is to balance the output volume of the amplug correctly. Since I used an external battery speaker I could balance the output volume of the amplug with the volume of the speaker. I think it sounds best with the volume not too high on the amplug, and then turning up the volume on the JBL speaker. You can't do this with headphones ofcourse, the sound will get quieter. I didn't put too much thought in it to be honest. I quickly dialed in a tone that sounded good and made a quick video. I think it still sounds good with these settings in my headphones, but you have to find a sweet spot for it to sound really good. I think the speaker colours the sound a bit aswel. These are not like studio monitors with a flat eq since they are intended to be used for listening to music. Hope this helps a bit and you can find a good tone for yourself!

      @@thrmns4841 That’s very informative, and yes I can see how the JBL would give it a nicer bass response and thicken up the tone. I will take your advice about the volume that’s very interesting. You still sound better than everyone else when demoing this product - maybe you should do some more videos, good luck and kind regards. M

    Great video and great playing, this thing is a lot more versatile than the Vox folks are advertising. I even got some Tom Scholz lead sounds out of it with my setup. You've got a good ear for the music and the textures so I'm wondering if you have any thoughts/experience with the MV50 Brian May Edition? It sounds like they're going for a Deacy Amp kind of thing with it.

    • @SealedKiller
      @SealedKiller Před rokem +1

      I got an MV50 AC which from what I see is the same thing as the BM version except it doesn't have the integrated treble booster.
      I use it with a Vox BC 112 cab with an external treble booster and you can get a really good sound with it!
      And no it's not really a deacy sound at all, closer to an AC30.

    • @SuperBigGuava
      @SuperBigGuava Před rokem

      @@SealedKiller Thanks for letting me know about the BC 112 cab! That looks perfect for pairing with small heads, namely one of those NuTube amps. Also I agree, in the research I've done, having a quality external treble booster is definitely the way to go.

    • @thrmns4841
      @thrmns4841  Před rokem

      In theory you can run it into any amp (front input / effects return /aux in. BUT I doubt it will sound very good. Guitar (practice) amps have guitar speakers which have a frequency response for “guitar tones”. The amplug is a moddeling device meant to be used with headphones. If you want to put it through speakers you are better of with something made for playing music ( with full range speakers ).

    • @laravelisbullschitt3281
      @laravelisbullschitt3281 Před rokem

      You just need a lead which goes headphone size 3.5mm to jack 6.4mm …. You want as clean a sound on amp as possible however since this thing is doing amp and speaker emulation….ideally plug into an FX return but if not available you want amp on clean and no eq…it won’t sound great though… it’s best to plug it into a stereo…that’s what I do…and it sounds incredible through normal stereo speakers…

    It's obvious that playing a Red Special with an amp designed to produce Brian's sound will give you a similar sound.
    Instead, don't you think we should verify how close Brian's sound can be when played with a common "Stratocaster" or "Les Paul"? I think that's what most guitar players who don't own a Red Special want to know. Not many people have a Red Special model. Like you, there are so many videos playing and verifying using Red Special, but people are not thoughtful.
    You should think better.

    Its plastic. Its nasty. Its awkward to use, difficult to get a decent tone out of (used Strat & PRS). It randomly switches itself off. It sounds awful with my Sennheisers but better with cheap gamer headset ?
    Its a toy that does the "We Will Rock You" drumbeat for the child in you.
    After an hour its irritating and in the bin.

      Er....you do realise it ALL about Brian May....lol...its marketed for Brian May fans who all probably own Red Special copies...although im pretty sure a strat or tele would sound pretty much in the similar ball-park....I for example get a fantastic jimi hendrix little wing tone using my RS and also use it to play tons of Johnny Marr The Smiths stuff as its got a lovely Rickenbacker chime to it...That said its a brave man who would brandish a RS on stage ...or a Eddie van Halen frankenstrat or Steve Vai/Joe Satriani...for that matter....
      im not too bothered about signature guitars myself as they're usually too expensive...but i kinda had to have a Brian May RS as its was a LOT of guitar for £650....its a guilty pleasure to own.......actually you kinda have a point...let's see a Gibson les Paul junior or epiphone casino through it...
