I'm re-watching these "older" drummer reactions and now got to this video again. Jamie is one of my favourite drummers ever. I remember transcribing some of his stuff for hours in school back in the day. Those were some long ass hours.
What I find even more crazy is that he was talking to sam bean (singer/bassist of werewolves) on a recent aussie tour sam asked jamie "so how do you remember all that technical shit?" Jamie's response "I improvise" sam-"wtaf dude", turns out he has a rough guide of where he wants to be but how he gets there he improvises fills etc. Sam told the story on a recent podcast.
Ulcerate are great. Sort of a weird mix of like neurosis and hate eternal or something. Did a lesson once with Jamie and he was a really calm and thoughtful guy. Seemed like his approaches to things weren’t as calculated as I always imagined.
There’s montages of him tracking drums for some of the records they gave to Relapse on Relapse’s YT channel… Very good sound quality and very inspiring
