- One of Diego's best games with Argentina and his only hat-trick scored with his country. As always, you can see the confident and extremely talented young gun taking control of the game, organizing the offense of his team and also displaying his great finishing ability. Special mention to that first goal which is one of the most iconic of his entire career.
The match was played on the 21st of May of 1980 in the Praterstadion (Vienna). Argentina displayed an hybrid between the classic 4-4-2 and the 4-3-3 formation/system liked by Menotti (which helped him win the 1978 World Cup). The key here is Maradona. Having the freedom to roam around the entire attacking front, he switches between adopting the role of the classic '10' who feeds the two strikers, or morph into a third finishing option.
