when browsing for books to read, i always look for book reviews. i'm glad my mom died is a memoir by jennette mccurdy, writer and former actress known for appearances in icarly, sam & cat, between, and more. this being such a popular book release and out of plain curiosity to learn her story, i had to do a reading vlog where you see all of my live reactions to this book plus a final review at the end. not going to lie, i lost my mind halfway through and lost my train of thought over this novel. booktube and booktok have buzzed about this book… let’s hear my thoughts. i hope you guys enjoy this one and come out with one more book to add to your TBR and some good book recommendations for 2022!

Her writing style is amazing, it’s truly her passion, and what she wanted since she was a child. I can’t wait for more books of hers in the future.
i hope she pursues writing and does the one thing she was passionate about as a kid🥺
@@MelReads Jeanette said she’s currently writing a fiction novel❤️
i listened to the audio book and its so good because Jennette narrates herself. Really brought a new depth
I hope she graces us with more books. Her writing is so good. I just absolutely hate she had to endure all of that at the hands of her mother.
Currently she is working on a fiction book and a collection of essays.
I read somewhere that Jeanette's real passion was writing. And it shows in her book. But her mom stifled her dreams of becoming a writer to make her pursue acting. Acting was her mom's dream.
Genuinely her writing is fucking beautiful. I really hope she continues to write books because they way she words everything is amazing. And I’m glad that she was able to get the help she needed because as someone who watched her shows as a kid it’s more important to me that she gets/got help than star in ANY particular role. 💛
I read the book and you’re right her writing style is amazing and I’m just so glad she was brave enough to tell her story
that part!
💛 i just love how real and raw she is, she’s an incredibly talented writer!
okay that! i can't imagine how hard it was to be this vulnerable and lay it all out there😭💖
i finished this book two days ago and was blown away. i was a huge fan of her as a child, and to know that this was what was going on behind the scenes is absolutely devastating to me. i listened to the audiobook and it made me so emotional. she has a gift for writing. truly incredible.
That book was some kind of heavy that I wasn’t prepared for but I am super glad I read it. She been through so much, and for a long period of time we knew nothing…I just hope that she’s healed enough to feel some sort of peace ❤️
I've been thinking about reading it but I think it will be too triggering for me so I'm happy you give a rundown now I feel like I at least know what happened a little bit. Also loved to vlog, perfect way to start my day thank you
💖💖💖
I listen to this audiobook on my vacation. This Book was so hard and i cried a lot while listening to this. I really hope Jennettes life is better now. 😭
I listened to the audio & loved it.. very relatable, I never quite put together *my* experience as being toxic with my own mother til later in life etc this really put in perspective how warped they truly can be, when these are the people youre supposed to count on for your well being!!!! very eye opening. heart breaking for her, just something you never fully completely move on from. thanks for vid!
okay but this, all this! it's always eye opening to read about others experiences and seeing how some things apply to you as well (maybe not in the same way or as strongly, but still) 💖
Just finished reading this book a few days ago and I've been binging video reviews about it since because I need to process it all somehow. No one I know in person has read it so this is the best I can do. So even though it's late on my part, thank you for the review! 💛
💛 This book was so impactful. I finished reading it, then took a nap, and when I woke up I can’t stop thinking about it.
💛💛💛 was so excited you read this, was hoping you would! Not sure if I’ll read it because of the heavy topics, but was so glad you decided to talk about the story generally!
I actually pre-ordered this book and was able to read it right around its release. It definitely had me hooked because of the writing. I didn’t know how to describe it since it wasn’t like “good” as in the plot but it was so good in the writing. 💛💛 proud of Janet
This is such a well spoken and thought out video. Loved it
I finished the book about an hour and a half ago and I loved it. I couldn't put it down. I know it sounds cliche saying that but it kept my attention. One part that really saddened me the most was that part where the Mom thought so little of her. texting her over and over and over calling her a whore. It was just so sad to see her be abused and then find out all these things later in life about her Mom, leaving way more questions than answers. It is such a great memoir, I know it's July 2023 when I am typing this but I feel like this book is gonna stay with me for a while and probably my top 10 of this year. This is the 30th book I read so far into 2023 and man, this one is full honesty, integrity and power. Great book. 5 out of 5! By the Way, I love how you review the book and your channel. Glad I stumbled on this review! Keep reading!!
I just finished this and wow! I’m in awe of her strength and bravery to tell her story and so proud she’s doing better now!
Thank you so much for this video I really enjoyed hearing your review on this book! I received the book it’ll be awhile before I read it but I’m looking forward to it. ♥️
💛 She deserves all the healing and happiness after all these horrible things that have happened. I too am glad for her.
yes yes yes!! i hope she's doing way better now🥹
I'm listening to the audiobook now and I can't stop its so gripping can't wait to finish it and come back here
💛 I can’t wait to read this book!
💛💛💛 listened to her book at the end of last year. The book gripped me from beginning to end. I kept thinking it couldn't get worse...and then it did. The part that absolutely FLOORED me and I had to take a break to process was when she was on the airplane, forcing herself to vomit in the bathroom and lost. her. tooth. I was undone, I didn't even know what to say or think. The other part that sticks with me is when her mother was dying in the hospital with a tumor on her brain but had just enough left to muddle out some form of "I love you" periodically. Knowing what she had experience at her mother's hands and then her mother somehow finding the effort to get that out just unsettled my spirit. Excellent writing. Horrifying story. I listened to the audiobook, did not love the narration though.
This book was so good. Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on it.
the beauty in this opening clip? i cannot
I was waiting for this video and I loved it. I could literally listen to you talk about the laundry because I know you'd make it interesting. Lmao. Have a good day!
not the laundry😂💖
When I first saw this book I was thinking I don’t know…I might not read this. But after hearing you input, i might check this out. Especially growing up watching icarly, victoria and Sam & kat. Love your video mel thankyou 💛
it was really good!! if you can handle the trigger warnings, would definitely recommend💖
@@MelReadsI just started the audiobook today and so far I'm loving it. it's very different than what I was expecting in a good way.❤
💛 I finished listening to it last week and I thought it was an amazingly written memoir. I personally loved her as Sam and was wondering why she wasn't acting anymore. Now I know and WOW!
sameee!!! i had no idea why, and this blew my mind😭
💛 I finished last week, This book made me feel angry and sad but I’m happy for her that she is doing better now.
💛
The book broke my heart. I was older and never watched icarly or Sam and Kat but I had to read this.
I listened to the audio and at one point her voice breaks and she cries. That truly broke me.
She writes so well and I would definitely read anything else she has to offer in the future
ugh, i feel like i would've sobbed if i listened to the audiobook😭😭😭
💛 Just finished reading. Damn, poor kids.
I need to pick this up so badly 😤
I got the audible and it was sooooo good and she needs to continue writing it shows how good she really it at it 💛💛💛
yesss!!!
Same. Loved the audio book. So glad she narrated it.
THE FACT THAT I LITERALLY JUST FINISHED LISTENED TO THE AUDIOBOOK. Talk abt timing
queen of perfect timing💅🏻
I have not read it yet. And I'm glad I watched your video because I think with memoirs it's hard with the spoiler part. But I know the trigger warnings and this made my decision to read it easier 🙏🏼❤️
glad to have helped🕺🏻💖
💛wow didn't think I wanted to read this book. Now I think I do. Crazy!
i stumbled upon your channel while looking into MCcurdy's case and i subscribed right away, as an avid reader

I honestly had no idea who Jennette is cause I'm not from the US as well but somehow this book is everywhere so I picked it up. I didn't expect to get choked up this much because I'm not an "emotional" reader. If she ever pursues writing, she'd be very successful.
Sadly, I haven't had the chance to read it physically because it really is sold out everywhere! Can't wait to get my hands on it
i hope it comes back in stock soon! i want my physical copy too😭
“And the coffee will make me happy” and the cat clips will make ME happy 😂❤❤
I'm definitely will be reading Jeannette memoir once the library gets any copies
💖💖💖
I finished it last night. It was a difficult read for me. I am happy that Jeanette acknowledged Ariana at the end of the book. It is definitely a testament to all of the lies that were told through the media about their "rivalry." I can understand the resentment/jealousy she had for Ari during the time of Sam and Cat. She did an excellent job and I cannot wait to see what she writes next.
THIS!! the media will literally say anything to get their next puff piece out😭
I’m glad she’s okay now, but I feel so sorry for Jennette.
I'm not interested in the book since iCarly wasn't a popular show here and I never really knew anything about this actor but omg, listening to you talk about all of this was fascinating!
it's wild to read about everything an actor can experience behind the scenes that the public doesn't know about! it broke my heart😭
Are there any photos in this book? I dont now should i buy printed version or ebook would be enough.
ooooh what did you eat in the after part? it looks yummy
it was a tuna sandwich!!
💛
💛💛💛
As a scriptwriter who works for tv, i'm interested in what you said about protecting the talent. I agree with that totally and in Jennette's case, she doesn't seem to be someone hard to work with and she was young too. But there are a lot people working very hard behind cameras for every show out there, and actors are known to benefit from knowing that their face is important for the show, so that they take advantage of it many times (not all actors of course, there are many nice ones out there!). What I mean is i've worked with actors wanting to direct and write their own episodes, without having the abilities to do so, which is disrespectful for the actual people working on that everyday because many of them want to do it as a game, when for us is our source of income. That said, i still think that the producer was overreacting probably, but it's not necessarily a bad thing for the actors to stick with what they know to do. Also, please don't think that i'm defending bad or evil people who work behind the cameras and do all these horrible thing to the cast and crew, that is a way bigger issue obviously. Anyway, i love that Jennette was able to speak about her trauma and hope to read the memoir once it comes to Spain 💚💚💚
i definitely agree with you! sometimes you have to stick to what you know, especially for the wellbeing of the show/movie or project in general. i think this case was especially messed up though, since many things were promised to her without any actual follow-up or even proper conversations to explain why something wasn't happening anymore. it was all handled horribly by production and corporate😭
@@MelReads Totally. They played with her emotions and with her future, and that's unforgivable tbh. It's a messed up industry and I'm so happy to see her thriving now! She truly deserves it 💚💚💚
I just finished the book today and honestly I think her mom was mentally unstable herself but that’s my opinion.
I’m glad she’s finally taking control of her own life and making choices for herself and not for her mom
💛💛
yeah, i definitely think there was some undiagnosed mental health illnesses going on😭
💛💛
The *cough* alleged Dan schnider also had pics of the girls feet at home next to his bed among other things, while making Ariana grande put her foot in her mouth while laying on a bed in the show. Holy disgusting man.
💛💛💛💛
I always thought you lived in the states
i don't!!🥰
