I love shawls. I also make shawls as a gift. I prefer the triangle shawl. The rectangle wrap reminds me of a lapghan. I'm looking for a beautifully textured with ridges or puff stitch included. I just finished 3 triangle extended alpine stitch shawls. And just made a peephole shawl for my friend. I love a good half circle shawl to.
Triangle shawls I have to make so long to cover my arms, I really don't care for them. My favorite is the Rivulet shawl, I guess you would say it is close to a half circle, with I think 3 point increases. This is nice because it is the same length all around and covers my arms. I've never had a shaw. But I'm always crocheting them to give away. I like making he triangle shawl. But currently working on a rectangle one.
Usually my answer is both, but on this topic, I have graduated to preferring the rectangle shape or wraps. My last triangle shawl was so long in the back and still did not come around my arms. So rectangle/wraps are now my preference.
I like making both the triangle and rectangle shawls, until I made a half circle shawl. I fell in love with the half circle I made for my niece, and had to make one for myself, lol. It is a 6 point shawl.
Hi Sara. I love the design factor of a triangle shawl. I have not made a rectangle shawl but my favorite shawl is I think it is called a boomerang shawl. It keeps me warm in the winter
I love the versatility of the rectangle shawl. I don't know many people that wear shawls so I really just make them for myself and my sister. I have never made a triangle one but want to.
I like both. I usually make triangle shells out of one white yarn, so that it’s very light as I live in Arizona but I also like to make the rectangle shelves in cozy yarn for the time that it gets cold here.❤
I love both types
sometimes they just end up on my lap being in a wheelchair I'm always cold so either one helps me now all I got to do is learn how to make them😂

I have only made triangle shawls and I made a 4 point poncho. I never made a rectangle shawl, but I would like to make one for winter. It keeps you warm in the house!

Hello Sara! I love to make shawls, too. I make many triangle ones, and through our Prayer shawl ministry at church we make the rectangle style. We think that type can be for a man or a women. I'm also enjoy making shoulder caplettes. I've done a few and hope to donate them to a nursing home or assisted living facility. I guess they can be called a wheel chair warp, too. I don't wear them myself, but I hope the recipents find comfort when wrapped up in them. 💗💗
I love both styles. I really like using a #3 yarn. Our church was doing prayer shawls for a few years, mostly giving them to shutins.
I would like a triagle shawl that had a type of sleeve, so it didn't fall off (handsfree).

Hello yes I like the idea of a shawl and made one for my sister. She seemed to like it and it was a triangle. I think all shapes would be interesting to make some with dense stitches and some with open stitches. Thank you for all that you do. Be Well
I seem to be drawn more to Crescent and assymetrical shaped shawls, not too deep. Seems you can wear them more ways. Thank you for your tutorials. ❣️
We have a prayer shawl group at my church. I don't wear them much but I do make them. I like the looks of the triangle ones, but have a problem some times making them. I usually make rectangle ones.

Sara, I would say that I prefer a rectangle shawl. I don’t wear shawls very often (usually only for formal affairs). I have made a couple of rectangle shawls as gifts and did make one for myself. However, I have only ever worn that rectangle shawl as a scarf. I have made a few triangle scarves (which I do wear), but never any triangle shawls. Guess I’m more of a sweater-wearer than a shawl-wearer. I do love your 2024 theme of “Others” and of making shawls to donate to nursing homes and/or shut-ins and am going to see if I can help ‘fill that need’ in my local community. my favorite things to crochet are #1 shawls
#2 afghans. I prefer to make triangle shawls. Rectangular shawls are hard for me to finish because I get bored with it and have to push myself to complete it. Good question. Interesting replies.
I love both actually. Wide rectangle or large triangle for cooler months. I like summer ones, but I don’t use them myself … I’m a jeans or shorts and tee shirt kinda gal, no frilly 😂
I only have one rectangle shawl but I have a lot of triangle ones. I probably wear one or two of my triangle shawls/ week, either over my shoulders or "backwards" around my neck and front. I do like them long enough to completely cover the arms (when wearing like a shawl not as a neckerchief) but I like them wide, rather than long.
I prefer rounded shawl & rectangle/wrap. I like making them all really. You're right they make wonderful gifts.

In the last year, I've made 9 shawls that I have given away to the shut-ins of our church, and I also made a blanket and gave them all away, I'm making more and I love the prayer shawl that you showed us this fall I've made 3 of them so far using different yarns, Thank you for all your designs

I totally agree with you regarding cold temp in restaurants. I prefer rectangle Shaw . I think they are more versatile.

rehab center's. I think the rectangle is a little more modern looking. I've made a few for brides too! Hope that helps. 😊

Hi Sara, I am not a shawl person & I have never made one, however, if I were I would be a rectangle fur sure. There is something about the points that seem to bother me, which is why I haven't found a poncho pattern that I like. Guess I'm more of a square then pointed... :) Betty
Hi Sara…this is hard bc I like both styles of shawls. Triangle would be my favorite to make bc it’s not so boring & I think more beautiful. The rectangle shawl can be used different ways like you said.
Reading other comments….I would like to try making a round bottom shawl….not sure if I’m saying that correctly. Some were saying that style covers around the person’s body and arms better.

idk. I've only been crocheting since last June and I made a triangle shawl and a poncho cape. I'm honestly not a shawl person, but I do like what I made so far. I use my poncho the most because its huge, soft, and warm. Also reasons why places keep it so cold with the A/C. To keep sickness down and sales up! If people are cold, they are in and out quicker.
Yes, it does kill germs to keep it cold, but I freeze.
Why Sara , it depends on my mood. Sometimes I like to wear the triangle shawl and others I enjoy wearing a rectangle shawl. Hey I just love wearing and crocheting shawls. But I think I own more triangle shawls than rectangle shawls, but I don't love one more than the other, lol.

Due to my arthritis I can't crochet, but I have taken up loom knitting and have become a yarn addict and I'm always looking for new stitches and ideas. I am in the process of making a triangle shawl and after that, I will try a rectangle shawl. For those with arthritis, loom knitting is an option.
There are quite a few loom knitting videos that are good on CZcams.

My first shawl I ever made was a triangle granny square pattern. I still have it. I made it when I was young, so it is way too small. But now I prefer the square shawls better.

I like them, but I have such a difficult time finishing them because I would have a stockpile because friends and family don’t wear them. I tend to like the rectangle shawls. Because you can use it as a scarf, or a mini lap blanket too.

I'm not sure which I prefer. I think in the winter I prefer rectangular shawls, since they can more easily be used as a scarf and offer more coverage. To be honest, I rarely use them, even though I am drawn to them.
Shawls in any shape are wonderful, but rectangular are multi purpose and I really like that

I like both rectangle and triangle shawls. I think for me it has more to do with the pattern. I think I like lacy shawls better in the rectangle shawl and warmer in the triangle.

I prefer to make the rectangle shawls as they’re simple and don’t take a huge amount of thought while crocheting. I actually prefer the look of the triangle shawls though. I like the shawl to not be huge so that it can be worn many different ways. I think the triangle shawls are so pretty wrapped around a neck kinda like a cowl.
I don't usually wear shawls. I think the triangle shawls are really pretty. Rectangle shawls are easier to make. I recently made 2 triangle shawls.
I do feel both styles have a purpose. In my opinion rectangle gives more coverage and warmth. Shawls seem to be more stylish to compliment what you may be wearing.

I like the triangle shawls except for pocket wrap shawls , those are rectangle but I like them.
