It was a funny joke nearly 50 years ago, way ahead of its time and is still hilarious now because we all know that men cannot have babies.
Where's the fetus going gestate? Going to keep it in a box?
@@anthonysherry2628 😂
He can't have babies, but he can have the RIGHT to have babies!
Aaqhhh, but what aboutt the right for men to have babies? 😆😆😆🤣😅😭
Such an amazing sketch, which lays bare the madness we're currently going through.
Its not just a war on comedy, its a war on free thinking.
That is the real war.
Systems of control are all around us Now.
Yep, it’s called….Orwellianism …that is the end game.
It's a war on humanity
Yes it is... ultimately, it is a war on humanity
'Those who can't control their emotions are compelled to controlling those of others'
- John Cleese
John Cleese: "You can't have babies!"
Eric Idle: "Don't you oppress me!"
John Cleese: " I'm not oppressing you, Stan, you haven't got a womb! Where is the foetus going to gestate? You going to keep it in a box?"
Pandoras box and it's been opened 😂
It's pretty much true nowadays.
"he's not the Messiah, he is a very naughty boy!"
I'm Brian & so's my wife
"welease wichard!"
"What has he done?"
"He's a wobber"
"and a wapist!"
As a Christian myself the Life of Brian COULD have been highly offensive - but it isn't because it's actually lampooning RELIGION - it never once mocks Christ! It's hilarious! 🇬🇧🏴🏴
A very astute observation obsidian, you're right, they mocked the religious attitudes, not jesus himself, thumbs up!
It also helped me at the time to learn that apparently it was actually historically true that people being crucified did sing to show their spirit could not be quashed. Also it was pointed out to me that the big musical finale of all the people singing on crosses was a send-up of blockbuster Hollywood film endings.
This guys gets it 👍😂
I disagree.
Life of Brian was not a parody on Christian religion, but on christian tradition. It is so clear that during the ""Life of Brian 1979 debate", Malcolm Muggeridge and Mervyn Stockwood (probably the main protagonists of christian tradition at that time and pace) could not have possibly get that the movie was a parody on exactly those two gentlemen and all of those like them. John Cleese and Michael Palin did not want to point this out to MM&MS, because they wanted to let MM&MS go further into excreta, so that Monty Python gains material for another show, namely "Not the Nine O'Clock News - Monty Pythons worshipers", as hilarious as Life of Brian itself.
And you think that Christ didn't establish a religion... LOL. You better get out your Gospels and actually read them.
Imagine ANYONE advising John Cleese on comedy.

You can't cancel a joke from a film made in the 1970's.
Thesw humourless woke opinion fascists will keep trying though - especially if they see a chance to feel offended or see their halo polishing nonsense agenda threatened by it.
You can't cancel a joke full stop. You can't erase it from people's minds. And you cannot stop them relating an absurdity from the 70s into reality now.
This sketch was prophetic and everyone at the time saw it as a joke and something that would never happen.

This is no laughing matter. Barry Humphries, the funniest man Australia has ever witnessed, creator of beloved characters such as Dame Edna and Sir Les Paterson, a giant who strode the comedy world for decades, could sell out the largest venues in his live performances, left the greatest comedic legacy of any Australian, unparalleled for longevity, breadth and depth and was instrumental in founding the Melbourne international Comedy Festival. A gift to Melbourne, Australia, the World and countless comedians giving them an opportunity over decades to work, earn an income and establish careers.
In recognition of all this the Festival’s comedy awards were called ‘The Barry’s’. A miserable, minuscule repayment for everything this great man had achieved but it was too much for the unfunny, woke, mafia impersonating ‘People with Humour’
Led by the likes of hannah gadsby, an unfunny woman who identifies as a comedian, whose career was established at the MICF not for making people laugh but for validating tribal prejudice of the wokerati.
The imperialists who colonised and took over the Festival ‘disappeared’ Barry Humphries from the Festival he established and gifted to all. His name was dropped and the Barrys were no more.
Barry Humphries was written out of Australian Comedy in the same way that those who fell foul of Stalin were erased from historical photos of the Soviet Bolsheviks.
Stalin, the Taliban and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Central Committee. Brothers not in Arms but in arranging for people who threaten those in Power to be disappeared.
Barry Humphries had the last laugh. Passing away on 22 April 2023 during the closing stages of this years festival.
RIP Barry Humphries. People will be laughing at your humour decades after the bottom feeders who stole your festival have been erased. Not by an act of political power but for their total lack of comedic talent.
So Hannah Gadsby really *is not* funny? Dave Chapelle wasn't being ironic? 😢
Really? It was standard vacuous humor; we laughed and moved on. A thing of its time.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Well said, I couldn’t agree more. The current crop of comedians cannot compare with Barry.
I preferred Gary McDonald and Paul Hogan but agree with your sentiments.
@@starwood213 Great Art ultimately is an individual expression. The artist carving out their unique character. In the pantheon. You can rate and rank great runners who are judged by a single criterion. What was their fastest time. With boxing it is much harder because they can only be measured against other boxers of their era.
Australia has been truly blessed by having Gary MacDonald and Paul Hogan. Ultimately, it will come down to personal preference.
Having watched a documentary on Anthony Quinn I would say that he was a greater Artist than Picasso but that is just my personal opinion.
Gary MacDonald was always Gary MacDonald as Paul Hogan was always Paul Hogan.
If you didn’t know who Barry Humphries was and saw Dame Edna, Sir Les or Sandy Stone, you would never realise they were the same person. Both Gary and Paul were fortunate to be around when Television made being discovered much easier. If Paul Hogan was in the same era as Barry Humphries he may well have retired, working on the Harbour Bridge as might Gary. Who can say. It’s all speculation. The one definitive thing that can be said is they made our lives so much richer.

The Life of Brian was very controversial when it was first released. The town I lived in a large Catholic town uk would not allow it in the cinema, we had to go to the next town to watch it. It was banned then on the basis of religion. Today, it appears nobody cares about religion.
It's the new religion. Biden said they are the soul of his nation.
The alphabet people ARE a religion. Complete with articles of faith, heresy and excommunication.
Oh, it's still the basis of religion, it's just the religion itself has changed. Nobody cares about Christianity any more, the latest religion is far more authoritarian and heretics are metaphorically burned at the stake. The whole gender thing is as religious as transubstantiation. Which is why it provokes the furore it does, and why it can't really be argued rationally. Belief and faith rarely can. If you believe with your whole heart you're a woman despite physical evidence to the contrary, you're in the realm of faith. There's nothing wrong with that per se, I just feel it should be acknowledged.
Nobody cares about religion any more? Best news I've heard for ages.

As usual the ones the screech the loudest about acceptance and tolerance prove to be the lest accepting or tolerant of any other point of view. Hopefully John Cleese tells them to GFY.
The life of Brian Is hysterical!
Good comedy is SUPPOSED to walk the line between being triggering, offending and upsetting, or not.
The joke was about how ineffectual and pointless radical political movements are. They were going to dedicate the efforts of the People's Front of Judea towards fighting for Loretta's right to have a baby even though it wasn't possible. They went on to lampoon how fractious they were, yelling 'splitters!' at the only member of the Judean People's Front. The irony of a radical political movement trying to strike this from the show is stunning.
We need to reopen all the boarded up mental asylums….Excellent as usual Mark
Oh they've all been demolished for housing.
Thank you so much, Mark. To me, comedy is the height of sheer brilliance. To stare the idiocy of humanity in the face and make it possible to laugh is a gift beyond price.
I don`t know who you are, but this is the type of british I remember from my childhood. Keep it up!
Symbolic of the struggle against reality. Prophetic words.
If the actors don't feel comfortable saying the jokes then they can leave the production. There will be 100s of actors itching to take their place. Why do the producers cave into these creti ns.?
