Building & Detailing the Tamiya Audi Quattro A2 Body Set - P2 - Stickers!

  • Hello my friends! Welcome to the first Mark Bryan RC video of 2020! Today I am applying the decals / stickers to the Tamiya Audi Quattro Rallye A2 Body Set. It was quite tricky, but I think it turned out OK in the end - mostly due to the use of a hair dryer! I wanted to include the installation of the LEDs, but sadly I ran out of time - so there will be a Part 3 of this series that will focus on how I get the 10 lights up and running! All the best to you all for 2020 - have a good one!

    What a bloody pain in the jacksy! Good job sir, you are a better man than I. I admit to having a little cry watching this and thinking of my forthcoming Lancja Delta build with the Martini livery.
    I was interested in Tamiya adding a bonnet line. I’m not sure if you watched Matteo’s RC channel? He cut very thin strips if black sticker and applied them on his Pearl-white Mercedes Jeep along all panel joins. It looked very realistic and I think it would add to your build too.
    Anyway, looking forward to the lights going on. This would look fantastic running on a snowy winters night with lights blaring. Flashback to the old Lombard RAC rallies of the ‘80’s on the BBC, when they actually showed sport, and not just reality shows and gender-neutral programming.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 4 lety

      What a fantastic comment, Alan! Oh my, the Lancia Delta sticker job! Yes, now that one makes the Quattro livery look easy in comparison! But a little patience and the use of some heat and those stickers will go on correctly. Good idea about the panel lines, I could look at adding them to the doors (actually, the box-art does show those lines applied). Oh man - I'm with you on the RAC rally on the Beeb, and I remember my dad taking me to stages in the Midlands. There was one in Sutton Park - I swear you could almost touch the cars as they went past!

    Great video and a beautiful result! The body work is definitely where the bulk of time spent on building these cars goes. I don't understand why some complain about them - if you're building a rally or Super GT car, it's a huge part of what makes the car what it is. The liveries speak to people.

    I really don't like the grayish/silver stickers for the side view mirrors, so i found a 30 cal rifle brass i had, and an old piece of thin lexan from the body, used the brass as a punch, makes the perfect size " glass" for the mirrors. paint it silver first and let it dry, i'm playing with the idea of using some foil (aluminum) wrapped around it as well. if anyone tries this, use a piece of wood for the punch not your table, it stuck into the 2x4 i used.

      Goddag Mikael! Too True my friend, slowly, slowly is the key! Yeah, the hair dryer makes the stickers so soft, very quickly! In fact, it is very easy to stretch the stickers too much, one needs to be very delicate with them. But a useful tool if you can steal the hairdryer from the Missus! And Yeah, Brent is a good guy with a great channel! :))

    Evening matey. Wow that looked like a hell of a complicated sticker job. You've done a fantastic job on it. Top tips with the hair dryer. Hope you are enjoying the remainder of the Christmas hols. I didn't get any hobbying or videoing done today but I did do the task of swapping the TV in the mancave with the one in the lounge which I'd been meaning to do for a while. Had a little bash session with Ric round the golf course yesterday which was good. Just enjoying a few pints and a bit more Dukes of Hazzard and CZcams. Look forward to seeing the rest of the Quattro body build. Did you suss out the leds? Be great to do a night time rally stage. Laters mate 😀

      Hiya Pete. Yeah, it was tricky but then not as tricky as the Lancia Delta! And without the hairdryer i would have been in trouble, it's saved me on many occasions before! Cool you got out with the RCs, I need to get out soon too. Hope you enjoyed the beer. I have been off work so long I never want to go back, but I know I will enjoy it after we all settle back into the swing. I have only had a little play with the LEDS, they look super bright on a 3v battery but I need to try and get them tested on 7.2v! Yeah, I like the sound of that night rally stage! Enjoy your Sunday, catch you later my friend. :-)

      @@MarkBryanRC you know I was thinking about the Lancia Delta stickers while watching this and wondering if this was as difficult. Well you answered my question without me even asking! I think if I do a Lancia body it will be the road version without all the Martini stickers. Never tried the hairdryer method but if I do it's a good job my wife has one if I need it as I haven't used one since the 80's when I had a lovely bouffant mullet! Nowadays I have so little hair that it's dry about 10 seconds after I get out of the shower!

      Haha! I had a mullet too! Same here now, no need for the hairdryer for hair any more! Well, Pete, I must by psychic - the Lancia is the hardest I have done, closely followed by the Mitsubishi Lancer. Although a real pain, there is still a reward when you see the finished body, so it's worth it in the end. Hope your week is going well mate! :-)

    Thanks for the brilliant video. My Quattro looks really nice and I’ve just added the rally interior but how do you get the body on securely with the interior mounted? Having spent 3 days detailing it seems a shame to cut massive holes in it for the clips to pass through.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hi! Well, you can paint either inside or outside but masking the details inside will be much harder to do. Painting the inside will protect the paint because of the Lexan on the outside. The downside of painting the outside is that the paint may scratch or chip off in a crash, but it will be easier to apply! Depends what your priorities are. Cheers! 😎👍
