Also, giving expensive birthday gifts in Japan seems more like trying to save face or trying to maintain an image but in India we don't judge a person by the price tag. It is more important how that person treats us and if they are loyal and dependable. I got just a birthday card from one of my best friends in college but she has been with me through thick and thin since last 8 years and she invites me to her home for lunch several times where she feeds me delicious food. I would rather have a dependable friend and family members than people who give me expensive gift once and then don't even visit me often or care how I am doing. Relationships always gets more importance in India and that's why I am a proud Indian.
Gift is something given by your loved ones out of love and affection. Value of the gift doesn't matter. For me personally , just a single flower is good enough!.

Actually, in india on birthday we visit temple. We take blessings from elders and spend quality time with family as well as do some social work otherwise donations. But cake and all things are influence of western culture. I don't like to cut cake. BTW it's personal choice.
You know I am from West Bengal India here we buy alive fishes and free them in ponds. And plant a tree on birthdays😀 and do a small puja and distribute the prasad ( sweets and food , fruites) in poors. Even giving poor people foods and cloths are actually ancient Indian way to celebrate birthdays.

Actually, in india on birthday we visit temple. We take blessings from elders and spend quality time with family as well as do some social work otherwise donations. But cake and all things are influence of western culture. I don't like to cut cake. BTW it's personal choice.

You know I am from West Bengal India here we buy alive fishes and free them in ponds. And plant a tree on birthdays😀 and do a small puja and distribute the prasad ( sweets and food , fruites) in poors. Even giving poor people foods and cloths are actually ancient Indian way to celebrate birthdays.
