    “Buy something that’s gonna make you happy when you look at it.” This is sage advice. As someone older who is just starting to collect, I quickly figured this was my path to happiness with comic collecting. If it checks that box, I’m not going to lose anything if I buy it because it’ll always bring me happiness. And I love the Dad and daughter videos, you two are fun to watch. 😊

    I love the legends series. Just need numbers 1 and 2 in 9.8 to complete the set in all 9.8’s.

    It would be interesting to compare prices five years from now. I think 2021 was the comic bubble and it inflated prices. Since then, prices have stabilized. I think people have learned their lesson from "extreme" levels of speculation. I think many moderns are dead because they were based on pure speculation. Where as other older books have longevity because people care about the characters and stories (before the comic boom).

    Was working for comic shop in Richmond during the 91-96 boom and now I laugh at the prices people paid ⬆️ for overhyped ‘must have’ books in those years versus what they are listed for now ⬇️

    Excellent advice, as always, and I appreciate the variety of books you look at and discuss. As a fellow appreciator of Neil Adams work it would be great if you did a show on many of his Superboy, Adventure Comics, Action Comics and Superman covers. Many outstanding, under appreciated and low cost books available.

      It ran nine issues. As a kid, I only had one copy and really was all about superheroes so this did not interest me. Now, I love it and had to get the whole run.

    My rule of thumb is I won’t slab a book that’s at least worth 100,,, now signature series is different I’ll get lil cheap books signed just because of the cover and the artist and nostalgia so that’s a different deal . But over all 100 very minimum

  • @richardbehrle1496
    @richardbehrle1496 Před 7 měsíci +1

    I have a lot of those books, (not graded) but I do have a I-M 55 signature series with Starlin's signature and I am not parting with that at all! Starlin Will not sign anything for CGC since he had an incident with them, it became a little scandal and I have a Star Wars 1 that I had Dave Prowse sign in the 70s with pix to prove it. Great stuff.

    Great show! My buying experience is rather limited, but I have noticed that my copy of Scooby Doo #1 (4.5 off-white to white pages) is still selling for more today than what I paid for it during the boom. I mention this just because it's also a Bronze Age key (and not one that gets mentioned very often).

      @@futurepastvintagecollectables Yep, there's a guaranteed scarcity with those comics aimed at younger kids in the early to mid 70s (in your sweet spot, in fact). Not many were saved in nice shape. Do you happen to have many raw Gold Key Scooby Doos in mid grade or better in your stock?

    Star Wars 1 has a census problem. Even the 9.8’s aren’t rare with over 800 and more being added on a constant basis. It continues to decline since the Star Wars shows have been poor.

    I wish my daughter and son would have gotten into comics. I only had 30,000 comic books laying around that were there to excite them, didn't happen. My son got into that X-Box thing. I watch you two and wonder what could have been. Rachel IS the star of show! I do CGC slabbing for my primary living. The market is horrifically down, but all good. It's that market cycle thing.

    I'd add in that the idea that you can flip a book after a year is always a risky if not downright dangerous idea. Comic book investment literally requires decades, not months. The only people I feel for are the dealers who are forced to take these risks due to customer demand.
    I've got books I've bought off the shelf, or from a dollar box that literally go for a thousand. But it requires being a collector who stays in the hobby for years.

    Rule 1: Collect what you enjoy, irrespective of its potential monetary value. If your collection gains value over time, that's a bonus.
    Rule 2: If you're considering collecting for long-term investment, prioritize the condition. Aim for high grades in gold, silver, or bronze age books. For modern books, look for at least a 9.8 or 9.6 grade; anything lower may not hold significant value.
    Rule 3: Practice patience. There's no need to rush. With a lifetime of collecting ahead, the books you desire will eventually become available at the price you're willing to pay.

    I really enjoy your videos ! All of the books discussed were stellar and totally agree with buying the book and not necessarily the grade ! 2 years ago I bought a raw Batman 237 (Fantast Collection) and just got it graded CGC 9.2 white !
