@marsgal42 no auto tune, have good talent by playing the drums (like Phil Collins, Roger Taylor, Neil Peart, list goes on), the guitar (Eddie Van Halen, Tony Iomni (if that’s his name, from Black Sabbath), list goes on), bass ( Alec John Such (Bon Jovi), John Deacon, list goes on), and singer (Freddie Murcury, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Steven Tyler, list goes on).
I know this is music related but off topic with the 70s and more old music but I have played trombone for 8 years and have a lot of musical talent. I agree with what you said (as a gen z since you already know). I don’t want to argue or anything, I’m just agreeing with you with what you’re saying. I get educated with music and pop culture so…..

Despite being born in 1981, I heard most of these songs when I was a kid. I became familiar with "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" through a remix that was released in 1993. I was already familiar with "Hotel California," but when I heard the acoustic version on that MTV special in 1994, it was love at first listen. I wish I got to hear "Sultans of Swing" back in the '80s (I'm not sure how I missed it back then), but I did look at the video in early 2024 and I discovered why it was so popular.

Yeah, some great memories there. Ok, I didn't think much of the Bay City Rollers, and I didn't think much of the Village People, but I do remember virtually every one of those songs. Glad you remembered Baker Street, that was a defining song.
Stairway of course, but every single track off LZ number 4 deserves to be on this list.
Did we get something off Dark side o the Moon?
Did we get something off War o the worlds?
What about Suzi Q and Devil Gate Drive?
How about some Neil Diamond ~ Sweet Caroline perhaps? Not exactly my speed but if you're defining the music of a decade, you really can't leave that out.
How about a bit of Meatloaf? Almost any track off that album but perhaps the best was the title track.
If you're going to have Do the Hustle (which I'm not arguing with) then you got to have Everybody was Kung Fu fighting ~
    The Night Chicago died ~
    Ma Baker ~

What a great list of songs. When someone comes along in 2074 and makes a list of great songs of the 2020s they'll have to limit it to 20 songs - music has gone terrible again. (Like it did between 1990 and 2010.) We did an icebreaker at work, what was the number 1 song on your 21st Birthday. Mine was Whitney Houston's cover of "I Will Always Love You," which I refused to play and instead played Dolly Parton's original. It was surprising how few people knew it was a cover, and how many people actually appreciated the original. Also, when I explained the lyrics are not about romantic love but a thank you/apology to her mentor after she quit his show for bigger things everyone understood why the songs first lyric is "If I stayed, I'll only be in the way.."

You are probably from the US, where the song is relatively unknown. It was a massive number one hit in the UK / all over Europe in 1978.

It's really crazy just one Pink Floyd song and that's it, I think the ultimate crazy thing is just one Bowie song, especially considering that you've two Queen songs, look, I respect you, you're probably young , but absolutely no artist from the late 70s had Freddie as a reference, instead, all had Bowie as a reference, whether in the most artistic pop like Kate Bush or in the most aggressive punk like Sid Vicious. Which by the way, you have to be truly out of your mind not to have Kate Bush's debut song
