I long to hear Bonnie Raitt sing this one again. I had it on an LP years ago but don't know where that would be not to mention what condition. Jackson does the tune proud and it sounds sweet. Thanx
I have this performance on a tape from a 1975 performance at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, outside Philly. The intro isn't included here, but he explains the song was written by a woman named Nan O'Byrne who didn't write many songs and that he learned it off Bonnie Raitt's new album.
+ KurtCokkain. Hold on to that Main Point tape. It's priceless. Jackson may have learned it off of a Bonnie Raitt album, but it was he who saw the humor in it.
+ KurtC. I.m sorry it has taken me seven years to catch up with you. Thanks for adding the facts. I'm quite the fan of the Main Point recordings, and I must say after this many years forward, I think they are historical in the world of David Lindley and Jackson Browne. The motivation to save this coffee shop for all it had done to help singers and musicians is exemplary. That being said, do you see the humor in this song as Jackson sang it, or am I the only one?
It's been TWO YEARS pal + we still don't see...! It is amazing how You Tube allowed the Bonnie Raitt search wall to be SO FILLED with repeated mass-video options OF THE SAME THING over + over giving us few choices to hear a choice song like, Sweet and Shiny Eyes! [We're pissed]
@lowlifehighdesertr I have that concert on a cassette tape somewhere. I thought this sounded a little different somehow. But when he started talking about Lowell George afterward during the intro to the next song it sounded familiar. So I think you're right.
I've listened to Bonnie's version for many years and a couple of different performances by Jackson but I still haven't been able to make out the words that follow, " ...we crossed the Rio Grande river, and we swore we'd have things our way, as we happened to walk into _____?" Can anyone provide the lyrics? For ref. que to 1:07 thank you
Love Jackson Browne singing this song. Makes me think of my late husband. ❤️❤️❤️
Love me some JB, but…nobody can do this song but Bonnie!!!
I saw Bonnie and Tom Waits do this duo in Boston in 75

Nice as this is, I'd like to hear Bonnie Raitt sing this
Plaztek. Ain't this just sooo great . It's one of my favorites, as are so many of Jackson's early songs.

Please, please.... someone must have Bonnie's version. It is THE BEST.
Thanks, Plaztek! I'm going to check now to see whether Bonnie's version is there. Heard it was a one take recording.
+ PlaztekNerd. Am I the only one who sees the humor in Jackson's version?

@snubcat Bonnie's version is on the Home Plate album. And I'm pretty sure Tom Waits is on that one.
Home Plate was the album that turned me onto Bonnie, my hero.
@snubcat I have it, Live even. Will try to post soon !
This was recorded at the MAIN POINT in Philadelphia, wasn't it...?
why isn't Raitts version posted on youtube? This is great, but her version is top of the bill :)
It’s out there now.
