I’ve been using Tumi for about 20 years for weekly travel. They are indestructible. I just bought the Rimowa Check-in Original in Emerald Green. Likely I will get the Essential Trunk to replace my well used and still fully operational two wheeled Tumi. Thanks for the tips! 😉

This is one of the best breakdowns of the various options with Rimowa. Thanks for the great review and insight.

Love the Tumi extended trip. We travel a lot as well, maybe 50 flights a year and they are lightweight, easy to maneuver, easy to pack and reliable. Lots of color ways too. Significantly lighter than Rimowa. Highly recommend

I love my Rimowas but as a solo travel I’m always scared that I’m going to get unwanted attention in certain countries so I have a Samsonite for certain places I travel (South America and most of Africa) and travel with Rimowa’s to Europe, Japan, a handful of African countries.

definitely essential is better because of weight and usability.... have you found that the trunk gets rejected for being the "wrong" size, ever by an airline?

Its close to Rimowa but not that practical, too much weight and less volume

what about the Hybrid line? They are lighter than the aluminum and zipperless.

I don't have long nails so I am ok with the clamps.

The weight & closure is exactly why i always skipped on Rimowa, even the plastic ones are heavier than Samsonite, Tumi or Mandarina Duck..
I got a Rimowa cabin suitcase for my sister barely because she wanted a colorful suitcase😆

Wow it really looks like the ones you bought 10+ years ago are way better quality than the ones they make today ? maybe they use a cheaper aluminum?
