There were three things that made Kei Nishikori lacking power- shots.
First- Kei should stepping into the ball sooner.
Second- Not fully aware the returning served from opponent(s), especially Roger Federer.
Third- Playing super smart- avoiding direct facing, instead, redirecting the ball away from Roger.
his lack of power is probably from after-effects by injury that he got in 2017.
He has been doing them for a long time.
However, due to his thin and small Japanese physique, he has less strength than anyone else on the tour.
Compared to Schwartzman's body, even though Nishikori is taller, there is a big difference in muscle mass.
