  • The experience of all returning Yu-Gi-Oh players. With Master Duel rekindling the nostalgic drive to play a children's card game. Many have tried to get back into yugioh. A tale as old as time, what happens to those yugiboomers who aren't ready for the game that the TCG has become.

      Cards like Book of moon and eclipse are pretty good against Kashtira and Purrely. But make sure if you're using book of eclipse that you do make sure they don't have any of their monsters left.
      As for a deck I'd recommend. Since you're a relatively new player Swordsoul is probably your best bet. Find a list from some CZcamsr (You can start making your own decks once you start getting a hang of the game) and then test it out in solo mode.
      The combos are short but the deck itself is pretty decent it used to be one of the best.

    I started on online sims because Masterduel didn't exist
    Played Monarchs, I cheesed a few wins every now and again.
    Then I found the Zombie Pack, hey this lv1 skeleton guy is kinda funny, at first I didn't touch the ED then I added cards for Extravagance, at first it was entirely random save for Avendread Savior then slowly I started adding other Zombie support in my ED, then generic staples, then I looked for plague spreader/Uni-Zombie lines.
    At that point I was engrossed enough that I was able to understand proper deck building.

    i had 0 (zero) knowledge of yugioh and started playing a couple of months after master duel released because i saw an ad for it somewhere (forgot where). I have reached master 1 but usually chill on plat nowadays.
    The key to learning for me was just playing the game, however, playing a simple deck is what allowed me to do that, i played sky striker because all you did was just summon 1 monster and use spells (i learned about quick play spells with it). Konami needs to make more decks that are simple but strong enough to not fold to other meta decks or ash blossom. Right now sky striker isnt the best but its still semi simple, swordsoul is also a great beginner deck, and the only meta deck that is noob friendly is Labrynth because god knows that its just eldlich on steroids and eldlich was very popular when md released.

    I just come across A greatest take from a non-yugioh player but 1 TCG lover in general. That is Yugioh is ACTUALLY in top 5 most "Fun" and "Casual" TCG ever, but not actually in the Top 5 "Competitive" TCG which have MTG, Pokemon.. where balanced and decision-making come first (Edison might).
    If we are actually looking the Yugioh as the Only TCG that you can do "All The Things In The World" your Own ways (Exodia, Zone Lock, Decking out, Burn.. and other weird win conditions), then It's actually pretty fun!! and that plus Edison/ Rush Duel and all other draft formats for battling w friends 🎉 Casual and Fun are subjective ("Why is FTK bad but Exodia is cool?" dilemma) but if we're looking at that way I think it's most fair for Yugioh since they don't have resource for "fair" card level to measure like mana anyway ❤
    Yugioh is never perfect and different formats show different complexity: Modern is more RTS Game with Build order/ Strategy even before the duel, Rush Duel is more pick up and play and so on!!
    P.S: It's from "Maindeck" youtube top 5 videos btw

    This is really well done, as someone who plays Yugioh and know all new stuff I agree here is 1 absolutely worst thing about this game (Master duel):
    -There is 1 ranked, sometimes events and Cup (which are same or have a banlist that benefits some decks) no other ways to play.
    Is it that hard to program couple of additional ways to play while distributing rewards equally? You could have old school, draft, legendary formats from 5D's and other eras. Yugioh can be very enjoyable game, but in the current setting with just 1 way to play + 1 single monthly event that is as bad as ranked I understand people who find it hard to join as newbies.
    PS. Solo mode is good but total scam, it does not prepare you for what Yugioh actually is.
    PS 2. Konami make more structure decks for beginners and let them be bonded with unlockable solo gate that actually explains you how to play. Teach people about hand traps in early tutorial.

      Very fair and valid points, I don't know why the other guy took it so aggressively. Alternate formats would be one of the best things they could add to the game. • @Honest_Mids_Masher
      @Honest_Mids_Masher Před 8 měsíci +1

      I agree it honestly sucks how the only new formats we get are in the form of events at least make some of them permanent or introduce a legacy format or two.
      Solo mode I do think teaches the player pretty well if you count the story decks. Like Rikka for example which is fairly decent and is pretty playable. However yeah some information such as staples definitely need to be explained it took me like 6 months to quit being stubborn and to just craft an ash blossom and called by (The only positive Maxx C has ever done for me).
      The structure deck idea would definitely be tough to bring in though considering most new players come from the anime and unfortunately it's the DM one where pretty much most of the decks are pretty bad. It especially sucks considering they're given enough gems to craft a pretty decent deck but they don't know what is a good deck.

    Honestly, this is by far the biggest issue with the game: just how disconnect Konami is from the gameplay. The audiences they try to appeal to won't like modern yugioh. The game that they're trying to sell have not been a thing for over a decade at this point.
    If you want to boomer-bait with DM, do it with rush duel. Let Ash be the icon of the modern game. Teach Branded in the tutorial. Do anything that's not teaching babies how to walk and then sending them off to fight in the tournament of power.

    imo, plying semi modernized blue eyes or dark mage decks are kinda fun.
    the same applies to the now released Gate Guardians.

    • @Honest_Mids_Masher
      @Honest_Mids_Masher Před 8 měsíci

      Tbf by that logic you can't really be running cards like Mirror force or Dark hole or Raigeki back in the older days because it has nothing to do with the deck you're using.
      Not gonna say you have to add these staple cards (handtraps) it's just that it would definitely help your deck stand a chance no matter how bad it is. I used to think like that but eventually I gave in and now I've been able to play whatever I want and always have a chance to win.
      You can run a semi optimized deck and that's fine though you won't get far as long as you enjoy it that's all that matters but if you're going on a losing streak and you're not having fun you can try improving the deck or build a deck for when you feel like getting wins (doesn't have to be links)

I won a lot, I lose some. But a year later, I just kept losing and started feeling that I no longer enjoy Yugioh. I said to myself that I hate modern Yugioh. So I decided to throw away my Noble Knigths, and tried out a pure Machina deck. I won a lot of duels and it plays the way I want to. Then I upgraded it to a powerful Earth Machines, I won a lot, still loses though because of Kash and some cheaters. Now I am at gold (at least for my Switch MD account). I got lucky that I grew up with ygo in high school, we knew we could play “real” ygo or low-power and “fun.” Eventually when i stopped playing irl, I found more fun on simulators because I enjoy deckbuilding. I have had many days where I didn’t even duel because I would do things like spend 2-4 hours reading every dark machine to find the jankiest Orcust Crescendo GY eff target.
    MD was fun for me because its a challenge to try to deckbuild for meta f2p, but I definitely think people who enjoyed ygo in the past should play with friends on simulators primarily.

    I played some of the early gba games and watched the first series. So coming into master duel I knew nothing of link, synchro or handtraps. First actual deck was the ruin and demise structure deck that I tweaked. Love the cards tbh but moved onto a Despia darklord deck after. Messing with the chaos synchro deck and a branded despia deck now.
    I feel like I did a pretty generic level up in terms of progression. Normal/ritual while learning some link plays to fusion and then synchro. Now to learn how to pull it all together better

    I got into Yugioh because of master duel, I had no previous experiences with the game and the only tcg I had played at that point was a few games of the Pokémon card game and I had a similar experience to this, got otk’d 7 times then tired to play magic, but something felt off so I went back into master duel and actually tried to make a deck instead of just using the dragon starting deck. I still didn’t win that much but after getting a few lucky wins with the hero deck I built I was actually having some fun. I went back to magic and the game just felt so boring, and you could argue that it was because magic simulators don’t have flashy colors and crisp summoning animations but it wasn’t just that, magic was just to slow for me I had become accustomed to Yugiohs faster gameplay and now there was no going back. Moral of the story, Yugioh kinda sucks as a first tcg

I found out about and played the ds 5ds games when I was in high school and 2. someone showed me the Dragonmaid archetype existed, so I picked them up on a simulator like half a year before master duel came out
    So when it did come out I just did the tutorial, began to farm gems like a motherfucker, and just speedran making a Dragonmaid deck that kinda carried me through 80% of the first year of the game

    Smogan-style tier lists might make Yugioh better. That way opening a few packs of Blue-Eyes classic cards gives you a seat at the tier 19 decks. It doesn't even have to be 19 tiers just like 5 would be enough. Tier 1 would be the current meta and each one below it would have more and more cards banned.

    • @trhtdjgtjdtj8469
      @trhtdjgtjdtj8469 Před 8 měsíci +1

      okay but how would you regulate this. Banning individual cards doesnt make too much sense because now tier 4 has like no handtraps/negates. Banning complete decks doesnt make sense either because then you ban like 40 archetypical normal traps or normal monsters nobody actually plays. A system like this would require oversight and individual regulation which makes it 10x harder to maintain compared to smogon. you would also have to go pretty low down the tier list to actually see some change in how yu gi oh is played. Instead of complaining about kashtira you know have scare claw that abuses the weaker decks that'll have an harder time competing. So either we end up with super low power decks and tier 1/2 with a lot of tiers inbetween few people would actually play or we have people that meticulously basically craft their own formats

      I was exaggerating for effect but my point was when you're playing against a t0 or t1 deck and your deck hasn't even been on the tier list for a few years, unless the opponent misplays you aren't going to be able to have a fun back and forth duel.
      I don't mind losing, in my opinion a fun duel is one that often goes a few turns where we both swap advantage back and forth over the course of the duel and both players have a chance to combo and negate the opponent. At the end of those duels I often think that was a really great duel

    • @Honest_Mids_Masher
      @Honest_Mids_Masher Před 8 měsíci

      @@starjadiancloneinvestigato1772 Thing is that isn't exactly true at this point. SPYRAL could still go up against Purrely and have a chance to win even though SPYRAL was meta like 4 years ago. Same with Orcust. Dragonlink is a deck that has always remained powerful throughout it's lifespan by just Konami printing dragon monsters. Sky striker has been getting support so that it can keep up with the meta, Same with Salamangreat. Heck even Ice Barriers are rogue tier when they were previously unplayable garbage with the support they've gotten. Sure maybe your deck is outdated but even then Konami does either release support or an archetype releases that can actually support it example being P.U.N.K with Gold Pride or Goblin Riders with infernity.
      Duels like that occur a lot in my case idk if it's the decks I play or something but games do tend to get a bit grindy. Control decks exist to create that style of gameplay regardless. Naturia Runick would seem like a neat fit or maybe Joshua Schmidts YCS list. I saw a guy using it and it lead to us both having a pretty grindy game (I was playing Manaddium)
