I used to watch basically every LSV vintage cube vid that dropped. Now with these daily vids I can't keep up and have taken to just watching the most recent. A wonderful problem to have.
It's my lunch break ritual. I watch while I eat lunch everyday.
I watched a little bit of one of LSV’s first cube drafts from 6 years ago and the difference in card evaluation is mind-bending. Jace was “broken,” Timetwister was “mediocre,” Consecrated Sphinx was “one of the better finishers,” Treachery was a “big busted blue card,” Counterspell was better than Force of Will, and Parallax Wave and LED and many other current favorites were unmentionable. Also neat to see what was considered cube viable back then
Honestly just goes to show you how much faster Mtg has gotten, watching the Fractured Identity fall was so sad, now it's only worth taking if you can accelerate it out, because 5 mana plays basically have to win you the game that turn
A FOUR MANA planeswalker? What is this, Magic for snails? It needs to be at least two mana cheaper than this.
@@Roxolan I can't say anything as I predominantly play Yugioh, but the fact that Ragavan is one mana (two to dash) and is just leagues better than any other early plays is kinda crazy.
And then you get to 3, Gut, Broadside, other ones I'm forgetting. 3 mana is the new 5 mana
The post modern horizons set design philosophy has had a ton of efficient cards put into side sets both for commander and cubes.

@@bppppppppppp like it has 2 copies of all of the fast mana and the broken blue spells. Adds to the crazy nature of the 5v5 draft.

The variety is cool, but personally I'm not the biggest fan of the 5v5 format, specifically because IMO the wheel is the most interesting part of the draft.

memory lapse over truename, and converter over oko were certainly some very interesting picks. They certainly came around full force in hindsight lol.

See, he was gonna get a mox pack 4, but then got greedy and asked for a grixis mox. You can tell the program jumped a bit and reset the pack when it heard him say that
"I can't take oko" when you had picked up overgrown tomb specifically because it could help you play an oko? Say it ain't so!
and of course a misty in the very next pack! and gut converting oko foods?
And then snap takes a Leovold later on lmao
@@last7116 Lol tbf by the time of the Leo pick he had Bayou and Misty Rainforest, makes a big difference.
Still surprised he didn't consider Oko more considering how few combos he had with Currency Converter, but maybe that's just hindsight considering he cut the converter in the end - he could have easily gotten some combos with it, tons of cards work with converter.
He couldn't take Oko when it would have meant having to prioritize the fixing for a 4-colour deck. By the time he saw Leovold there was already the hindsight of having accidently got the fixing for a 4-colour deck. Currency Converter was a safer pick and he probably expects it to over perform because he often drafts decks it would be good in.

I love 5v5 drafts! Have you considered adding another cycle of fetches though? They are so high at everyone's list that they rarely wheel. Plus there are quite a few cards in the cube that need fetches to work...
No initiative is so much better and 5 packs of 5 is very enjoyable too, just looks better on screen tbh
The drafting/skill part is very random though.
It's more of a for fun casual format.
You can also potentially get 5 power or even more.

Regarding the “no initiative” differences, it would be interesting if thoracle consult and time vault were also included in the initiative list. You have a bullshit list and a honest Garfield intended list.

Can someone explain to me why he is so into Chaos Defiler? destroy nonland permant x2 is good and all but am I missing something here?
Apparently, the card is really good - it’s big enough that it’s usually a 3 for 1 and it even doesn’t target
Decent body as a 5/4 with trample, and even if it eats removal immediately you get to effectively 3 for 1 your opponent
Right after the draft, when he says, “this is 15 lands so I need to cut a couple cards…”, what does he mean by 15 lands? Like he only needs 15 in his deck? I’ve never got that (and I know it’s probably like a “duh!” But can someone please explain this to me?
Means with the amount of playables in the deck, only 15 lands would fit therefor he has to cut a card to get to 16 lands
Have you considered Florian, Voldaren Scion over Theif of Sanity in the cube list? His downside over Theif is mainly that you have to use the card at once, but he can get to see more cards, do not actually have to attack and can fairly easily get a card the turn you play him. I do think 3/3 first striker is a better creature than a 2/2 flier, but it is minor. I am not sure about your deck vs. their deck though: Your cards fit your plan better but being better if your opponent has a better deck than you is worth something.
and playing your opponents cards is a lot better than them playing them

A shame that you had a fantastic Marchesa deck but never got to play her in any of the games.
I think it can't possibly be correct to trade creatures and not take out the oko. IDK how it could be correct to ignore the oko when the game is ending in 2 turns at the fastest, when the worst thing it does is gain OP 3 life and you have no real gas on hand to fight against the constant advantage it is gonna give M4tti. Given the way you drew, it may be unlikely you win the game anyway, but leaving Oko in play to bury you doesn't seem like a winning line.
Yeah just 2 turns of food tokens already makes up the life difference for not attacking Oko - no way that was correct.
