Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

Enya's music has gotten me through a long period of panic attacks during my teen years. Her voice heals the mind and soothes the nerves. You could argue she has saved my life.

I once traveled with a young child who never stopped crying. We soon discovered that playing Enya on the CD would stop his crying. He would mellow almost as soon as the music started. Enya saved that journey.

Enya's mother once said many years ago that the only way one could hear perform in public, was to hear her sing in church. When she first hit the airwaves (remember those old radio days?!) I knew this was a very special lady and voice. She uses her full "instrument" and resonates throughout her body. Literally. My old choir teacher would be ecstatic. Always will love her & her music.

How beautiful, and how poetic! Enya sings of a newborn king, and of various angels.
"One is sorrow" allows us to see the "man of sorrows" that this newborn king will become, according to the Isaiah 53:3 prophecy.
"One is peace" allows us to see that the newborn king is the Prince of Peace, according to the prophecy in Isaiah 9:6.
"One will come to give you sleep" is reminiscent of the words "sleep in heavenly peace," which we recognize from the old Christmas carol "Silent Night."
"One is comfort" reminds us that in sending a Savior in human flesh, the prophecy from Isaiah 40:1 is fulfilled: "comfort my people."
"One is grief" reminds us of the words in Isaiah 53:4: "surely he has borne our griefs." The comfort and grief angels also remind us of this New Testament passage, where comfort and suffering are side by side: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too." (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
"One will take the tears you weep" also reminds us of Jesus praying and weeping agonizingly in Gethsemane. This notion of Jesus weeping on our behalf is explained further in Hebrews 5:7: "In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence."
Finally, Enya's words, "all things they will give to you" allow us to envisage these angels bringing all things to the One who made all things, which is what we find in Colossians 1:16: "For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him."
