10. It’s the Island of Santorini
A common view is that Atlantis was actually part of Santorini, a small island in the East Mediterranean that was partly-destroyed by the mighty Volcano of Thera in 1646 BC. Yeah, a looong time ago. Geologists have suggested that if you reconstruct the island of Santorini, you can see that this complete version, before it was destroyed by the volcano, used to be Plato’s mysterious island of legend!
9. The Black Sea
Some are happy to believe that Atlantis was just a made up story of legend. But others believe it was a real place. Not only that, but it was actually something else. The theory of Atlantis being located in the Black Sea region is a great example of this. It all centers on the rise of ocean levels following the last Ice Age.
8. Under Antarctica
Atlantis is usually believed to have somewhere warm, possibly around the Mediterranean, and you’d probably need your sunscreen (if it had been invented yet). However an American historian thought the truth was very different. And colder! Prof. Charles A Hapgood went on record in the 1950s as believing the mythical island was in fact, part of Antarctica.
7. Is It Based on Truth?
Atlantis is often portrayed as being the perfect society, a peaceful utopia that was very technologically advanced. However, if you look at where the legend started, in Plato’s dialogues written in 330 BC, he describes a place that is just like any other.
According to him, it was a technologically advanced society that was wealthy, and had a very powerful military but it was also corrupt. He claims that Atlantis battled against the city of Athens who came out the hero.
6. It was founded by Lemurians
An old idea about Atlantis is that it’s connected to the lost continent of Lemuria. Lemuria was believed to be located in the Indian or Pacific oceans but their continent sunk due to volcanic activity. They were beings who could travel between dimensions by altering the matter in their bodies. Plate tectonic theory and the existence of other continents strongly discount that this ever existed.
5. Lost in the Bermuda Triangle
Plato talks about how Atlantis was swallowed by the sea in a single day. Even so, you’d think that over the centuries someone would have stumbled on something concrete to prove the island existed right? Well this kind of happened in the late 1960s.
4. It’s in the Bahamas
If you’re in the United States then Atlantis may be closer than you think. To be more precise it could be 50 miles east of Miami! There lies the island of Bimini, part of a chain of islands in the Bahamas. Just 20 feet (6m) under the water there are some mysterious stones which could show the existence of Plato’s fabled kingdom.

A German computer genius named Michael Hübner came up with a unique approach to finding Atlantis in 2008 when he gave a presentation at the Atlantis Conference in Athens. Others had taken an archaeological approach or used mysticism to locate Plato’s fantasy island.

From stories I've read, Atlnatis was a very rich island but then an earthquake happened and it began to sink. Everyone drowned, and the rich city became decayed over time to seem like regular garbage at the bottom of the ocean.

Atlantis did exist and has been discovered. It is located in Mauritania in Africa and is called the Richat Structure or Eye of the Sahara. It fits the description given by the Greeks. It is beyond the Pillars of Hercules, it has the dimensions of the ring structure described, it has the mountains to the north, and it has the red, black, and white stones used in construction. Expeditions are going there. Ancient maps also show this as the location of Atlantis. You can check this out on CZcams.

To me the most compelling theory is the Bermuda Triangle. We've even discovered a huge Pyramid the size of 2 football fields under water at the Bermuda Triangle. You can definitely tell that it's not a natural occurrence.

Second, If planes get covers in reef and sand in about 1 year, what are the chances of finding Atlantis , that has been "sunk" for over 5000 years? Think of all that sand and reef. People should dig up the reefs to find out. Digging up the reef won't harm the ocean or its creatures, the ocean will create more reefs in less than a month. Also I know were Atlantis is located. It's most likely a myth, owing to the fact that the founder is said to be half-god, and the Greek gods most likely not real. Also, destroying reefs will damage oceans greatly. There are so many animals that would lose their homes. To add to that, have you seen the effects of heatwaves have on Oceans, because of coral bleaching. It takes years for these reefs to regrow because they need other corals to survive. That causes animals to die because those animals need homes in that area, not on the other side of the world.

Here are 4 good reasons why we havent fount Atlantis yet:
1) Atlantis is hiding somewhere in the parts of the unexplored ocean
2) Atlantis is buried by the sand
3) Atlantis is *SO* deep down below the imaginable so we cant find it

The Bermuda Triangle makes a lot more sense because of the magnetic shift that most older navigation systems have found there. It was rumoured in most texts that they were vastly more advanced than most of civilizations of the time, likely more advanced than us. It is entirely possible they had power, understood magnetic energy, ie the magneto in your small engines but on a larger scale.
That makes no sense. Also the Earth's magnetic field has been found to explain the interruptions of compasses and other instruments completely, it has nothing to do with some ancient civilisation, but rather the triangle's location. And what "texts" are you referring to? Because the only account of Atlantis we have is Plato, an incredibly unreliable source since he melted together the mythical and the factual.

It could be the past, not the future. Seeing as layers have been added onto the earth, including water and even ground. After the eruption Atlantas ( which was basically most of the earth) got engulfed by the see. Seeing as volcano's eruption can cause tidal waves, earthquakes, and even just by themselves completely sinking the island itself. So it is possible. Just that it would not be in the future.

I believe things based on a percentage scale of 0-100 after I have compared arguments for and arguments against. I align information based on differences, similarities and identities. Have the people who have "proven" that the Eye of the Sahara is not Atlantis done anything more than attempt to poke holes in the mountain of circumstantial evidence that it is? Have these people produced a better pile of evidence based on anything more than speculation aligned with nothing tangible or have they only come up with reasons why "the Richat can't be Atlantis" according to their personal beliefs and interpretations of an account of a legend that it was said to have existed 12,000 years ago? Do they have copies of ancient maps corroborating their proposed location of Atlantis like the Richat does? That would be a great, big "no." Therefore, such arguments are weak as they haven't actually made a better argument. These counterarguments have only proven that some people will ignore a mountain of circumstantial evidence and facts and argue just to argue. Brilliant!

It is possible, one of the theories is that Atlantis wans't in the Atlantic at all but actually more likely in the Persian Gulf area and is now underwater. Another geographic feature also known as the Pillars of Hercules seems to have been also located in that region as well as it being the Bosporus. It seems to have been a rather common name for any two separated land masses.
Nonsense, there is no ancient record anywhere, that proves any such place existed. The story was fabricated, the ancients knew it was a made up story. This Atlantis bull shit is only a modern new age fairy tale.

@CherryBoo65 Boone: While the bible gives "kind of" directions to where Eden is supposed to have been, I don't think of it as a physical place, rather a state of being. The story of the original sin causing mankind to be chased out of Eden depicts the transition from hunter/gatherer to farmer/shepherd. This is of course just my interpretation.
If it was the Bosporus, it would fit in nicely with the flood in the bible. The Black Sea is huge, it could've been home to a number of civilisations before the Bosporus broke.
That's actually wicked scary to think about. They found settlements underwater there, that's how they got the idea that the Black Sea basin wasn't always connected to the Aegean Sea. Imagine that. Another location they speculate Atlantis was is in the northwestern part of Africa, right by a mountain range that has erosion from water around the base of the mountains with circular islands that match the description of people's claims of Atlantis being there, I believe it's called the eye of africa. Also a long path of where water flowed into the Atlantic Ocean, from the supposed Atlantis site. Yes, there is nothing but desert there now, but they claimed this was all 4500 years BCE. Which would put it in that time frame of Atlantis.

Close, but no cigar. Plato states that Atlantis was "just beyond the Pillars of Hercules" (Gibraltar.) There is no sunken landmass just beyond Gibraltar in the Atlantic ocean. BTW, the first king of Atlantis and the Berber people of Mauritania is named "Atlas" and is probably the same individual. The Atlas Mountains north of Mauritania are probably named after this person. "Atlas" is also the root of Atlantis, meaning "city of Atlas" and root of "Atlantic." If you sailed from Greece or Egypt (where Plato got his information on Atlantis from) "just beyond the Pillars," hugging the coastline south, you would come to Mauritania. Mauritainia is where the Richat or Eye of the Sahara is. Two maps by Herodotus and Pomponius Mela indicate that Atlantis is the Richat but they spell Atlantis "Atlantes" and "Atlantae." Bright insight also has three great videos on the subject, aligning a mountain of facts with Plato's account of Atlantis and essentially proving that this is where it is.

This is true... Antartica has a civilization under the ice, but it is not the descendants of Atlantis. Atlantis was located in NW Africa, in what is now called the Sahara Desert (see Richat Structure). Those in Antartica are either alien, Nazi, or some combination.

Based on the island of Crete, the Minoan civilization dominated trade in the Mediterranean and met its end due to the massive tidal wave caused by the eruption of Mount Thera on Santorini. It should have been mentioned, but it most likely had no influence on Plato's version of the myth since his civilisation came after the "dark age" that followed the bronze age, and the tribes that took over Greece didn't keep many accounts of the Minoan and Mycenaean civilisations, which is partially why we know so little about them.

I just returned from both islands last week; the actual relics of the museums in herkalion are 95% Bronze Age Greek.
