Sweet tutorial but honestly using flimsy clear plastic drinking straws could work too (and it would look a bit more realistic). But that would be more for being slammed through rather than hitting cause it would be hard for a figure to carry.

I found skewers as good sticks to use for the figs hand

For breakable tubes you can take 2 mini candy canes, break off the curved ends, and glue them together. You can make a bunch at once and paint them all white and you've got a bunch of breakable tubes for your figs!!
