  • Some might say he looks like a Na'vi from Avatar. Others might say he looks like the Babyman mask from GMM. Listen to Link recount what led to an unfortunate facial injury from a mountain biking accident over the weekend, the backstory behind a Golden Globes picture with Patricia Arquette, and what the guys believe to be the Achilles' heel of humanity in this episode of Ear Biscuits!

      I had a honey bee hive take over my house for a few months. I accidentally got stung in my sleep twice. And once in the afternoon. I was drinking a beer and thought the beer was making me feel funny. Nope. I went to the ER just in case and turns out I was full flung anaphylactic shock. I had to stay there overnight and get the special medication. I was prescribed an epipen but I don’t need it so I never got it. Because normally if I get stung once it’s fine. It’s just because I had multiple stings in a certain time frame. It added up.

    • @RainbowVision
      @RainbowVision Před 3 lety +14

      I think that's more about not trusting someone to be inside your home than it is about helping someone in need. What Rhett is saying is you should try to help someone even if they disagree with your world view and I think this applies to almost everyone unless if they're just plain evil. Usually homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia or any other irrational socially rooted -phobia comes from stories or teachings that are aimed at driving people apart. If you show them as an LGBT+ person that you're just a human being trying to help the other, they might think about their beliefs and if it's actually true what they've been taught. That doesn't mean you have to let someone into your home that you don't trust.

    This reminds me of when my very German father with ZERO upper lip decided to shave his mustache for the first time in, oh I don't know, 25+ years.... He's had that mustache before I was even born. Anyway, he looked so unbelievably different that we couldn't look at him. In fact it was so drastic, my stepmom took out her eyebrow pencil & drew a mustache on him 😂😂😂😂😂 I'll never forget it. We (& he might I add) were absolutely traumatized lol He hasn't shaved it since & I don't think he ever will. & thank God for that 😂🙏

    1:09:10 Rhett, we already found a way to get carbon out of the air. the "technology" already exists for longer than humanity itself and it's very simple: trees. the problem just is that we as humans keep tearing them down to feed all the animals we chose to eat. and to build new roads, buildings, cities. the solution is already here, but as long as short-term-profit is the sole driver of economies and as long as individuals aren't ready to adapt their lifestyle, it won't change.

    • @josh1943
      @josh1943 Před 3 lety +1

      Actually thanks to the lumber industry, there are more trees in North America than ever before. When looking at carbon and pollution the US is essentially “sustainable” where if we were to continue just as we are, the environment will be fine. It is the developing countries that do the overwhelming majority or deforestation and atmospheric pollution and they are just not “privileged” enough to care because they are surviving.

    • @Ryuondo
      @Ryuondo Před 3 lety +11

      Actually the lungs of our planet are in the ocean. Oceanic plant life and and photosynthetic plankton consume and store more CO2 than the trees on land. We need to actually do something about the water pollution feeding into our coastal waters since that's where most of the carbon consumers happen to exist and those coastal waters are dying. Shit, our oceans are dying from over exploitation and pollution.

    Empathy is what humans need to work together in today's climate. Yet if one side does not show the simple courtesy of respect, it's impossible to feel ok with that kind of behavior.
    It's frustrating that being helpful can lead to being stepped on. You have to voice your concerns when basic human rights are being ripped away, there is no middle or grey ground.
    After the election, we will see where America, but more importantly if democracy is strong enough to hold together this fraction nation.
    Rhett I feel you about wishing for a Utopia, but for it to ever even happen, people will need to agree on a common ground and that common ground is that humans rights is not for debate, ever. This also comes from an optimistic person who back in 2016 tried to believe there was a middle ground.
    Even so im glad you guys talk about these heavy topics, we need to have these conversations now.

    Floaters are debris and hardening pieces of the eye jelly inside the eye (Vitrious jelly). You see them because they drift across your field of vision as your lens throws the image to the retina.
    You'll get more the older you get unless like me and Rhett you have Presbyopia aka "old eyes".

    Hers a pro tip; Take BENEDRYL after bee stings, it’s an antihistamine and helps reduce swelling and itching.

    • @FukaiKokoro
      @FukaiKokoro Před 3 lety

      @Kenneth Smotherman I don’t think that’ll help much. Because a lot of the pain is due to the stuff bees “venom” and swelling, Benadryl helps with both. Where as Tylenol is more just pain relief and not treating the root cause. It won’t hurt anything. So I guess if you really want to.

    • @FukaiKokoro
      @FukaiKokoro Před 3 lety

      @Kenneth Smotherman I think Advil would work better because it also reduces inflammation. Or when I get really bad headaches or a tooth issue my favorite is both. I take one of each and they combined work very well for me.
      They even make a mixed one now called Advil Dual action. And it’s both combined into one pill.
      “Tylenol (acetaminophen) is only effective at relieving pain and fever, but Advil (ibuprofen) relieves inflammation in addition to pain and fever.”

    I'm so happy to hear someone other than my mum and dad talking about this! I feel the exact same way about what Rhett said. Seems like us humans just don't know how to ban together. This does indeed come from the way of living we used to have (living in small groups). Our brain is not capable of living in groups bigger than around 150 people. So to think of effects that we have as billions of us is not really what our brains are made for. I honestly don't see a very bright future ahead, but boy was I happy to hear we (my parents and I) aren't the only ones talking/thinking about this!
