  • Soundac Productions was an animation studio out of Florida that made a handful of TV commercials among other things but are primarily known for producing COLONEL BLEEP which was a TV cartoon show that premiered in 1957. Although the animation was typically limited for a cartoon show of the 50's, the production design was extraordinary and was influenced greatly by the modern design sense of the 50's- such as the great architecture of the era, the 50's coffee shops and restaurants- and even some of the cars that were built back then with their great tail fins.
All of this was not lost on me as I watched Colonel Bleep in the late 50's and onward thru most of the 60's. The show itself had a cast of odd looking characters and odd goings-on in the stories that kept me thoroughly captivated. But I digress. Although Colonel Bleep is what Soundac is best known for, to keep afloat, the company produced a handful of TV commercials, some of which are hard to see these days, but here's one I obtained for the Seattle World's Fair of 1962. They gave the same full futuristic treatment that earned Colonel Bleep its popularity.
It's only a minute long and I'm sure you'll enjoy it, so here 'tis.

The "Colonel Bleep" style was the first thing I noticed. Thanks for posting.

Thanks! I remember this particular TV ad from when I was in the first grade. I actually was able to visit the site in 1991.

This commercial was burned into my memory as a 5-year-old kid. It gave me an impression of Seattle that stuck with me throughout my young life, and so when I had the opportunity to be stationed up there in the 1980s while I was in the Navy, I jumped on it -- and I wasn't disappointed. I took my family up the Space Needle back then and it was indeed a wonder; and the views were spectacular on the day we picked to go. The memory of this commercial immediately came to the fore and has stuck with me since. Still live in WA, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Now, if only the residents of Seattle would clean up the mess they created by voting in a bunch of Bolsheviks to sit on the City Council. This is nothing like the Seattle I remember from the 60s and the 80s.

Man they really wanted to make a franchise out of Colonel Bleep.
