When I was driving truck I would keep a Mr. Buddy with me on the truck just in case I broke down and it was cold outside. and I would keep a case of Sterno fuel and some fire bricks as well. My biggest backup plan was a Tent, Fishing pole and axe and Knife. Just in case I slid off the road and had to abandon my truck All these things came in handy. Only had to use it once for those scenarios, but once, made it worth it. That sterno fuel, You can dip a stick into the gel and use that as a fire starter make it last longer for you.

As an ice fisherman in the midwest, I've been using Mr. buddy heater systems for close to 20 years. Thought I knew everything that could be done with them. Done the cooking rack, the 20lb tank, used the top of my shack to hang wet gear above the heater to dry. But there are really cold days that make me bring out the big buddy with the built-in fan. Knew of the existence of heat generated fans for wood burners but never put 2 and 2 together. Also, I didn't know you could get them so cheap. So thank you for showing me something new, sir.

The Mr Heater has a regulator built into it.. go read their website..
With the Mr Heater you do need to get a fuel filter otherwise it will clog at all up because regular propane is dirty .. the green bottles are pure so you don't really need it with them but it's way too expensive to use them they only last 5 hours if you're lucky ..and you have to get Mr heater hoses only because they don't have the oil in them that will clog it up..
That paint tray he recommends is stainless steel coated with zinc which is toxic as is Galvanized Steel..

Buddy series heaters are time tested by outdoorsman/ survivalists, and safe for indoor use.
Internal operating temps are over 500 degrees,so keep on floor away from combustible objects, like bedding/ furniture/ drapes/ etc.
Never bring a White #20 outdoor grill propane tank, inside any dwelling.
Run a 10 foot Buddy hose from that tank, indoors through a cracked open window or door. That allows additional oxygen intake for heater while running.Or,use indoors with 1 or 2 green 1# camping propane tanks. The small green tanks can be refilled from a white 20# grill tanks,CZcams is full of how to videos. All you need is a $10 refill valve, from Walmart or Amazon. Also,a digital postal type scale,to prevent over filling.
These heaters have been used for millions of hours, for years, inside RVs / ice fishing shanty's/ homes/ apartments/ travel trailers/ etc etc.
Always good to use Carbon Monoxide detectors+ smoke detectors, when running any portable heaters.

Thank you for sharing these tips and such. Also, I'm now a subscriber because you share HOW to do things and share what you know with others, instead of keeping it to yourself. Over 2 years ago, I bought 2 Mr. Buddy heaters. I didn't think I would have to use them so quickly! In that emergency, I was thankful I had an alternative heat source. I admit that I didn't learn HOW to use them UNTIL I needed them! So, I was stressed when I tried to use them in that moment!
I used these heaters last winter when unexpectantly, my oil tank failed. Thank God I also prepped propane canisters too, because it took over 2 weeks to have a new oil tank installed and oil delivered! These two heaters helped to supplement heat in my home, along with other electric heaters. My electric bill was much higher too during that month.
The Mr. Buddy heaters HELP, but don't expect them to heat a HOUSE! And from my experience, when I had to use them, the propane cylinders only lasted at a max of 4 hours. So, if you're expecting someone to be home when the cylinder runs out, then okay, as long as you have enough propane cylinders to replace and continue giving heat. Also, the Mr. Buddy heaters are not meant to be substitute for a furnace or some thing. Only for a short time! That's my experience.
I did NOT know how easily one could pop off the grill cover or attach simply a paint tray and potentially use it for cooking too! Maybe some others knew this but thank YOU for sharing this!
I have some propane canisters still in my preps, but now, I'll add more, while the prices are still affordable for me, and the propane is available.
Some people keep their knowledge of some things to themselves, for selfish reasons. Those that do, may find themselves without help when THEY NEED something, as no one person knows everything!

Easy to use right out the box czcams.com/users/postUgkxAvrAfikbUEMthp3AZ6iX5FKdiHfzy_RP . Next step is to get a heat activated fan to move the heat. I'm impressed by how long it can go on 1 lbs of propane at the low setting which lasted more than 6hrs. You'll have to adjust it lower than the low setting. Used for personal heating at 30° to 50° at low setting in an open garage, it's quite comfortable. It would warm up a good size single car garage if its closed off.

Great information and really useful thank you for posting. Even though I live in Florida now, I can still use one of those heating units it does get chilly here some days.

People don't forget. You can refill your little green canister tanks. Saves a bunch of money. Just remember to use a filter when using the refills. Or when using a large tank with a longer hose. For indoor usage obviously.
Best way to get the little green tanks full as possible.. But them in the freezer over night. Evacuate all the remaining pressure. Then thread onto 5 gallon tank and adapter. With 5 gallon tank upside down. Open tank valve. And let sit for 20 minutes. You will have a PLUMP FULL little green tank.
    Mr. Heater sells the adapter

Does one have to have the hose/ adapter etc, for the small cylinders of propane!?

The pressure isn't the same as when they're new and definitely don't do it if their any rust showing. It also helps if you put the tank to be refilled in the freezer before trying to refill it .
