- The Mexican Hat Rock Road in Utah has several dispersed camping spots where you can boondock next to the San Juan River or up closer to the Mexican Hat Rock for free. This dispersed camping spot is a great spot to check out the local area such as the Forest Gump Hill which was made a popular attraction in the movie Forest Gump. Also within easy driving range is the Moki Dugway, a must see very scenic drive up the side of a mountain. Don't forget to drive the Valley of the Gods road back to camp after the Moki Dugway drive! Hope you enjoy it! Beautiful area around there, lots to explore and check out!
Another great video. I will add this spot to my bucket list! Thanks Mark.
You should!
Those chops and taters look AWESOME !!!
So good!
Love that area, been there twice at Valley of the Gods and once at Mexican Hat. Great videos, keep them coming.
Pretty neat area around there for sure. Lots of history!
Thanks for including the meal! Looked good. Good video thanks!
You bet!
Another great video thanks for taking us along
Glad you enjoyed it
Such a beautiful area. Thanks again for sharing?
Thanks Joe! It sure is!
Marc your videos are beautiful, really enjoyable to watch
Glad you like them!
Sweet location and area, have it marked on map to checkout sometime. Thanks for sharing the coordinates as well as for the video tour of the area.
As always, stay safe out there…..
No problem 👍
13:08 You gotta love Utah.
Coordinates, yay! Thank you! I have been wanting to go there.
Any time!
You're getting good with drone footage, nice.
Thanks 👍
That’s a great video. Thanks for sharing. We rode through that area on a motorcycle trip in 2015. We really want to return with our truck camper.
You should! Having a motorcycle in Utah has come in handy. I love riding mine on the dirt roads around here.
Awesome views 👍
Thank you 👍
Great video
Thanks!
Hi Mark! This is a great video. Looks like in a few places you were going to walk of the edge. Yikes. Living the dream, buddy 🤝
Thanks 👍Loving Utah!
Thanks for this vid man, i knew u have been in this area a lot , omw lol. Campin at the navajo monument . Peace.
Mexican hat is a neat spot to visit.
I'm headed that way in May. Because of your video, I know where to look for a camp spot. Thank you
Glad I could help!
Very senic video ! Thanks again ! The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is accessible from southern Utah .
Thanks for the info! I am planning on checking that area out later on in the summer. I'm really looking forward to it. I've already got a dispersed camping spot located I'm going to try out. Can't wait!
Muley point is just off the top of Moki dugway. Awesome views from up there.
I made the left, but the road had recently been muddy and it was rutted. I didn't want anything to do with that. LOL Next time I'm in that area, I'll go all the way.
The Forrest Gump road is cool. I’d have to run up and quote the movie lines 😂
LOL I saw a kid doing that exact thing when I was there. It was funny.
That's a STEEP road!!😮 Wish we had went on over from Mesa Verde while we were so close.
It was pretty neat to see.
I enjoyed this, even though I was there, great memories. If you take the Mokie Dugway to the top take the first road to the left it will take you to Muley point, there is dispersed camping there also ,but the wind can be over bearing.
Next time!
That drive up Moki Dug way scared me and I wasn't even driving. Amazing view!!!! Can you imagine building that road?
It was kinda scaring me also. If you noticed, I stayed further away from the edge while driving it then normal. LOL It would have been very easy to slide off the edge, no guard rails at all. Beautiful scenery riding up there. I definitely can't imagine building that road. I believe a mineral mine company built it to take minerals to the town of Mexican Hat for processing back in the day. Very Scenic!
The million dollar highway nearly done me in but that is CRAZY
Nice video Mark. You saw a lot in this episode.
I did. Lol. Lots more to see and check out in that area. I’ll be back there.
Great video - beautiful scenery!!
Many thanks Angie!
Great quality vid and content. Showing the map is sure helpful with the region etc.
Glad you enjoyed it
I just love your videos Mark! I look forward to each and every one. Thanks for taking me with you to all these great places! Tom 😃
Glad you like them!
I have a 2013 KLR and Love it. Cant wait to get back to the states and ride it again. I am in Indonesia for a few more months and all they have here to ride is 155 CC scooters :(
155 CC's can be fun to ride LOL But the 650 is much better exploring. Safe Travels!
Stunning area Mark...really digging your Utah series. Nice solar set-up!
Glad you like them! More to come. I'm loving Utah!
I MUST get a drone. Adds some footage, in places you can use them, that really shows off the beautiful countryside!
You should!
I love boondocking. I know it isn't for everyone but some of these spots are fantastic ... not bad for free! Excellent video Mark.
Couldn't agree more! Free Public Lands is the best. I love finding them and exploring the area.
All awesome. Love the river. Thanks for sharing! 👍😎🇨🇦🌞
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video, thank you. I am curious to know what model your motorcycle is. Also, I did some dispersed camping in north GA since I last commented here. Beautiful area - and not as tough a nut to crack as you might think ;)
Thanks! In this video I'm on my 2022 KLR 650 Adventurer. Where abouts in North Georgia? The Chattahoochee NF?
Absolutely stunning views, I never tire of seeing the west in all her beauty! I'm so jealous, man I can't wait to get back out there! Thank you so much for sharing your journeys with us.
It really is! I'm really enjoying Utah!
wow, that was fantastic views on that Moki Dugway! Thanks for sharing, always great stuff Mark, keep it it up!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi, beautiful views. Amazing. Great job!!! I am planning to go through the same routes, you made. Do you think that Chrysler Pacifica will cope to go there? I will take this van because of size of my family but I am little worried how this car go thru those roads you presented. Thank you for hints.
I don't know if your vehicle would or not. But I did see cars and vans driving on these roads also. Safe Travels.
@@DispersedCamperMan thanks 🙂 for you as well.
Do you lower the camper jacks/legs to help with wind sway? Do you unbuckle the tie downs when you do? I’m new to slide in campers. Thanks for the content.
I do lower the jackets to help with sway while walking around in the camper and it definitely helps with sway from the wind. I don’t unbuckle tie downs. I’m not lifting the camper, I’m just lowering the jacks just enough to stabilize the camper.
Thanks for sharing Mark, plan on doing this trip in my truck camper in May. Was checking online and it stated a fee to camp at Mexican Hat Rock? Also what's your thoughts of driving a truck camper up /down Mugi dug way?
The first part of Mexican Hat Rock Road is private property. You can camp there but you have to go online to the owners website to pay to camp there. Keep going down the road about 3/4 mile and it turns into BLM land, free camping. There is a sign as soon as you turn onto the road with a web address to go to to pay for the private land camping spots. All the spots next to San Juan River is BLM free camping and there are a couple spots up by the Mexican Hat Rock parking area that is BLM.
As for Moki Dugway road; there are several signs prior to hitting the road that says RV's, towed trailers, and anything over 5 tons prohibited from driving the road. So it would be up to you if you do. Hope this helps.
@Dispersed Camper Man Thank so much for the quick response I think I will try the the dugway.
@@rjshather Your going to have a great experience on the dugway. Safe Travels!
Would you have attempted to take the narrow gravel road with your pickup and motorcycle trailer ?
Which narrow gravel road?
@@DispersedCamperMan Moki Dugway trail.
@@richardduke6930 I probably could make it. But the signs prior to the road said nothing over 10,000 lbs, no RV's, and no trailers. All were prohibited. So, I probably will not take my rig on that road.
Fishing?
You could. But I didn't have a Utah fishing license at the time.
@@DispersedCamperMan is that area BLM or Navajo Nation?
@@jonedwards2107 BLM
@@DispersedCamperMan thank you.
