Finally a recording worthy of the 21 st century, Excellent images and HiFi sound. Beautiful interpretation, Beautiful Orchesta and Conductor. Thank
This is the very best version of this concerto I have ever hear in 40 years.
17:54 - 1st movement cadenza
23:22 - 2nd movement
32:00 - 3rd movement
Thank you.
I heard Isabelle Faust live for the first time, yesterday. She play this concerto with the Freiburger Barock Orchestra. Unforgettable!
The Speed is Excellent !!! The Style is Excellent. Within the introduction you were able to tell this would be an excellent Performance.
The way everybody starts coughing during the break at 22:00 is quite hilarious
How could I walk on this earth without knowing of this performance 😭
This was only performed this past Sunday morning, wonderful to experience this so promptly... a privilege
A great performance from this fantastic Orchestra and an outstanding Isabelle Faust with the finest cadenza I ever heard!
Listen to her amazing cadenza with the timpani! She is one of a kind, and a perfect match for her instrument!
fantastic orchestra!
A wonderful performance by Mrs. Faust and Rotterdam Phil. Reverberation in Het Concertgebouw is also marvelous as the best hall in the world. Appreciation to the technologies by which I can enjoy this Sunday concert only week later at Japan.
insane bow control
but the performance is missing a bit of feeling and vibration... it seem that the 1st violinist performane was put on the mode of " automatic"... from the start...
This concert remember me the most important person in my life, my father. Thank you.
My favourite piece by my favourite composer!
Same, hehe
Amazing performance and what an absolutely beautiful shoot !!
she's a wonderful and serious player, well done...brava!
The best violin concerto ever
first time for me to hear this fine violinist
really thankful for you
Yes indeed Mostafa, it's my favourite piece of music ever. If you enjoyed this fine performance may I direct you to another, this time by the flawless Hilary Hahn. czcams.com/video/0Cg_0jepxow/video.html
Gracias por compartir !!!!
SUPERBE !!! MERCI
Astounding performance and the cadenza was glorious!
I agree. That is the most Amazing Cadenza I have ever heard for that concerto. There are many other good ones but that was the best.
instablaster
Is this her cadenza or any composer?
I am so in love with that *cadenza* ; this in the best I have ever heard in life.
@@user-gn2tx6gs4g The cadenza from Beethoven's own arrangement of the piano concerto has been rearranged for violin. Beethoven enjoyed playing the duet with a timpanist.
Amazing performance !!
Great performance... Kindly thank you for sharing.
Ein wunderbares Stück mit hervorragender Geigerin.
Everything was perfect.
Orchestra, soloist and conductor share intentions in this concerto, in the most wonerful way.
Magnificent!!!!
Awesome and virtuous interpretation of Isabelle Faust. Precious and unusual the "cadenza" of the first and third movement. His violin, a Stadivarius called "The Sleeping Beauty" has been more beautiful than ever. The teachers of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the conductor do an excellent job. The fantastic sound of the Concertgebouw allows you to appreciate a public that is abnormally noisy.
She is absolutely one of the best violinist in the world !!!
Bellissimo concerto ,ottimo video molto brava la Isabelle Faust .Grazie
A very great joy!
fantastic.
I hope she knows how GREAT we know she is.
La orquesta estuvo genial. Incomparable
The Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, is a work by Ludwig van Beethoven. The musician has studied the great treatises devoted to the violin, notably « The Art of the Violin » by Pierre Baillot (1771-1842). He became the friend of several great masters of the bow, to the considerable influence of the 19th century. The Concerto highlights the personality of the soloist, the richness of the orchestration and a relatively measured virtuosity of the solo violin. Bravery is not very present in the first movement, « Allegro ma non troppo » which opens with the dull beat of four notes on the timpani, the quality of the colors being paramount. A brief cadenza introduces the voice of the soloist after the orchestra has expounded the two themes at length. Their originality, which has so disconcerted the public, mixes the reminiscences of folk tunes and opera melodies. The solo violin orders the various thematic groups and imposes a feeling of unity. The passage of the themes to the orchestra or the violin does not cause any ornamental digression. The content lyricism of the score strikes us as surprisingly modern right down to the cadenza that precedes the coda. The second movement, « Larghetto » recalls the structure and atmospheres of the two Romances for violin and orchestra. It is treated in the form of variations. The melodic element is developed mainly in the high register of the violin. In the « Rondo allegro » the dialogue between the violin and the orchestra is as if improvised, a moment of pure poetry that slips between dream and reality. Rhythmic punctuation is entrusted primarily to the cellos. They let the soloist deploy the full extent of his technical means. Three movements whose common characteristic seems the importance of density, does not oppose the soloist. This one, on the contrary, clarifies the orchestral discourse, seems to reinforce its expression, which he permanently subordinates to his natural gifts as a virtuoso. Never before had this instrument known greater glory in its concerting role. This climate is one of the happiest in Beethovenian literature since the master draws on the amorous exaltation. *Lucien*
Gracias
wonderfull~
amazing
Schitterend!!! Dank!!!
I was really impressed
Amazing
Excelente interpretación!
mm that 3rd mov bassoon passage is so clean. fill the hall up nicely. double basses too. this is an excellent recording
Bravo !!!
BEST EVER ! k
33:59 I love how the orchestra is not at all together with the soloist Ms Faust, and she knows it...! (as seen in her smiley expression soon after).
That cadenza is wild. I don't particularly think it fits the piece well, but it's fun and reminds one how global Beethoven's music grasp was and how ahead of his time: there are moments that sound like they come from the hoe-down. And of course Beethoven anticipated jazz.
I respect L.V.Beethoven. This explain everything.
I've heard that cadenza before - I just don't remember where. Isabelle's great intonation is music to my ears. She also breaks some of the chords in a different way but it sounds nice. Bravo!!
It's Beethoven's own which he wrote for the piano version of the concerto.
@@Quotenwagnerianer The conventional cadenza, do you know who wrote it,.
Kreisler.
@@Quotenwagnerianer nope, this cadenza was transcribed from Beethoven's own piano cadenza by Wolfgang Schneiderhan
I grew up (1960s) with the original Wolfgang Schneiderhan recording on LP. My understanding was that he compiled this cadenza from an array of Beethoven's minor pieces - two masters in concert.
Beethoven didn't play violin .but he composed magnificent violin concerto.Merci. Boucoup! AVROTROS Klassiek.!
he DID play violin
Yeah, he did play the violin. He was good enough to have played in an orchestra. Same with Mozart.
Who told you Beethoven didn’t play the violin?
Isabelle is a great violinist, I've seen her live a few times and met her in person at Barbican Hall.
Crikey, so like, you are telling us she is dead now?
LOL! Just noticed my typo, how embarrassing :(
36:24... close call ;)
what happened?
@@markrutte5637 well pretty sure that the conductor thought it was tutti forte.. Which happened few bars later
@@user-ev2ho9qu3h yeah, even the soloist laughs on him LOL
divin violon,divine isabelle,divin beethoven,admiration
Prachtige uitvoering en een bijzondere cadens.
wunderbar
31:33 2nd movement cadenza in the style of Vivaldi
Wow the Cadenza!
Heard her play this concerto about a year and a half ago with the LSO led by Gardiner, was honestly the best live rendition I'd ever heard and I have this feeling itl'll stay on the top for quite some time to come, such an amazing musician!
🇹🇷😍🤗
Muhteşem...
I'm so sorry about to say this, so forgive my ignorance. But how is possible that only Elder people came to hear this wonderful concert? As until my bad sight let me see, the hall was plenty of elder people, buy there was not young people or kids at its better! Wouldn't be grateful to see one or two grandmas/pas with their grandson/daughter listening this masterpiece while they look to each other, their faces full of happiness and giving care one to the other? And at the end of the concert, they go for an ice cream and grandma or grandpa tell the kid some story about Beethoven or their young age...
Eterna Fuente de Luz Divina in the Netherlands younger people are not allowed inside a concert hall unless they play an instrument. You have to be 45 ore older. Something of a natural selection by law. In stead of discriminating people by skin colour, occupation, country of oregin, religion etc. We invented a new version. Very effective. Also prevents people inside from asking stupid questions.
Alexander Hamm hahaha! That is the funniest answer I've found in these lands! Now, being a bite mor serious from my side. Are younger people not so interested in this kinds of music for take a chance of a beautiful experience? Also, how is the kind of family in your country? In my country, Costa Rica, families tend to do everything together: go to the movies, to the stadium, if there is a public concert --if there is... Something that not happens as I would--, there is not space because there are tons of families around... Every announced activity is a motif for celebrate, the more people could go, the better... Even the nekoatsume and the doggie goes!
@Eterna : good question. I will give you three serious answers. Like you say many younger people are not so interested in classical music; if they visit a concert once a year then probably not this one, but more likely an evening concert. Keep in mind this is a Sunday morning concert in February. Many upper class youngsters play hockey on Sundays, so they cannot be there. Others have gone out on Saturday evenings and want to sleep late on Sunday mornings. Third answer. It's quiet expensive to visit such a concert and nowadays young people have not much money, they are much poorer then thirty years ago. Quiet at lot of them work at the weekends. Old people at the other hand have far more money then thirty years ago. They also have far more time to visit concerts.
Yes, why it isn´t so. Who could answer? k
Young people today - at least the vast majority of them - seem to spend their every waking moment on their cellphones, their I-Pads, their computers, etc. They listen only to the most reprehensible types of music, and those who write and perform that garbage do it only for their pocketbooks! It is pathetic here in the United States that there are so few individuals who listen to any type of "classical" music. Music is barely taught in public schools, and so many of the parents DO NOT encourage their children to appreciate what is, in my opinion, the most wonderful adjunct to our lives: the amazing beauty of classical music which informs, refreshes and brings hope to our hearts!
super super super
Isabelle treats this with the accuracy that is needed. Overall a very exquisite playing.
Maestra will be performing this very concerto in Yerevan, in exactly 10 days. Can't wait to hear her in a live performance!
lindo
Thank you. I love this concerto. Interesting first movement cadenza.

Ennek voltunk tanúi most is. Csak gratulálni lehet az eddigiekhez!!! /...és erőt, kitartást kívánni a továbbiakhoz./
Bravo!
A Wonderful Performance ,🎶🎶💥✨💖

what is that cadenza? who wrote it?
It's Beethoven's own cadenza which he wrote for the piano version of this concerto.
Sehr gute Geigerin. Sehr gute Aufführung.
Wonderful performance, thanks for uploading. I've never been convinced by the violin / timpano candenza in the first movement - to me its out of place and breaks the magical spell of the piece, but that's just me.
It is Beethoven's cadenza
It's nice to hear something other than the Kreisler cadenza. Can someone tell us which cadenza she used?
Listen to this for clue!!

What other performances of this same piece you would recommend? I've just heard it for the first time and it's been indescribable.
Maxim Vengerod.
Hillary Hahn
Jascha Heifetz, Charles Munch, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. You would either love it or hate it. But if the composer's intentions are of any importance to you, the aforementioned recording perhaps conforms most to Beethoven's intentions.
Patricia Kopatchinskaja with the HR Sinfonieorchester. Incredible performance. It's hear on youtube

Listen to Arabella Steinbacher and Janine Jansen to appreciate how badly Faust plays this piece.
From whom is this cadenza?
Well ... great tempo choice ... 1st movement is played as ALLEGRO ma non troppo !!! (rather than a type of "funeral march" where violinists play to please themselves with their beautiful tone and drag out phrases)
- you do know that "allegro MA NON TROPPO" , means "allegro BUT NOT TOO MUCH" right ? obviously, "not too much" would depend on how fast the allegro would be, then slower from that point...
@@johnnyecho yes, I do .... and that's my point. There must first be an ALLEGRO .... one should not use "ma non troppo" to start with an ANDANTE :-)

Why is there a tie on her "sleeping beauty" violin?
This performance is full of art 🎆 wonderful! Is this Kopatchinskaja's cadenza?
What do you mean? She has performed this cadenza at the berliner phil too. There's a digital concert hall interview she does w/wieland about this cadenza. Check it out
It's her adaptation of Beethoven's own cadenza, which he wrote for the piano version of this concerto.
The cadenza is Beethoven's own, which he wrote for his own transcription of the violin concerto for piano (he really did that!).
As far as I know, Ms Kopachinskaja was the first one to transcribe Beethoven's piano cadenza back for violin - you can hear it here: czcams.com/video/xr9KmgDFwMc/video.html. It is a little different from Ms Faust's version.
Wolfgang Schneiderhan did that long before Ms Kopachinskaya.
what about following the interpretation of Isabelle Faust ?this is for the orchestra or conductor….two worlds coming together - such a unique cadenca - she is such a deep thinker coming from the baroque violin…and second movement is more think of the medieval very special
