Built in ATU, built in battery, compact size and half the price of the competition. Looks like a winner to me.

Very good Video, thank you so much! I purchased the X-6100 a few weeks a go and have made contacts on 20 meters. I received a 5 x 5 from a station 1300 miles away. So I was quite impressed. I have attached it to an external power supply but did not get it above 6 watts. I also loaded the latest firmware. Someone mentioned the speaker, the speaker does have a noise at higher volume. It’s like something is loose and it ‘vibrates’ I had more success with headphones. For the price it is a good radio.

Aren’t we all in a lucky position with so many portable rigs to choose from. This looks to be a real challenger and good value for money rig. Not seen anything yet to temp me away from my KX3, still think it will have to be surgically removed even though the IC705 is next generation and has a lot going for it. Thanks for a great vid Peter (again). 👍🏻

Hi Mike. Yes I still have my KX3 and Kx2. Both quite old now, but superb performers. With internal ATUs they do most things I need. Thanks for your support. 73 Peter

Great review Peter, I bought one in May 2022 with the latest software. Love the radio, the build quality is first rate and the screen fantastic. I have also owned an IC705 that I was always nervous of taking portable due to the size and cost. Both great radios nevertheless

CZcams audio is a bit distorted, difficult to understand

  • @HamTechRadioScannerDrones

Hi Peter excellent Video , the sd card is used for firmware update , if you leave the sd card in the radio it will use the SD Card to boot from which is quite handy as you can make bespoke versions, voice and CW recordings are stored on the radio the wifi at the moment is used to access the Linux system for alterations you can also do this via the host usb c port, the cover on the left is covering a space left to allow wifi signal to escape the blue tooth will work on a mouse and keyboard but no audio for speaker or headphones there is a CW training mode (BK off) and the radios decodes BPSK ,CW ,RTTY and will TX, to the right of the s meter there is also a SWR Meter there is an important note that you need to full charge and discharge the radio 4 times before first use if you want the battery operation optimised , its a very neat radio for the price point and the best firmware at the moment is 1.1.2.

I will not consider buying one f these radios for at least six months. Xiegu has released an alpha-level project, not a real product. When it shipped, many of the advertised features simply did not work. They have been fixing things gradually with a long series of firmware updates that have come out very close together. It's almost as though the product is still in a mid-develoment stage. Buying one of these is like buying a lottery ticket: The features may be delivered in working form eventually, and they may not. Buying the first release of any product always carries a certain amount of risk, but this is well beyond that.

I love my 705. I believe Icom could have done a better job designing the radio to be smaller and I feel not having an atu is a bit of a disappointment. But I believe it is the best over all qrp radio. I don’t see the Chinese rigs lasting long before they burn up.

    • @watersstanton
