Well New York mostly became polluted and culturally diverse in the early 1900’s so it has a couple of fourth wall breaks as in referencing modern day NYC. And “in the same carriage” is referencing their large subway systems. Honestly, the only thing that specifically referenced colonial times is Lin’s costume, him pointing at the sky in the end, and the phrase “Upstate doesn’t trust us.”

@@madjaster9620 The previous line was a reference to marriage, though, which also don't fit a busload of people unless you're talking about Futurama, and multiple people sharing a carriage for hire (especially someone like, say, Hamilton and Burr in this period) was not unheard of. It's a lovely parallel, but it does work in the period of the show.
Also... upstate NY not trusting New York City residents is still very true.

People barely recognized his name 2,3 years ago. But we all know him now. And we are cheering for him. And it gives me so much hope that his desires of having a legacy are finally fulfilled more than 200 years later. Thank you, Lin, for bringing this full circle. Now, to the replay button!

OMG THE CHILLS. I cry every time I get up to this part. It's my favorite part of the entire song because of THE BELTS! Even though I'm a girl, I had to take a lot of time to practice the entire song, especially holding the final notes. Holding the notes at 2:39 is still very tricky for me, but I'm used to it now, because I've actually held those notes before. I feel proud of myself.
I'm used to him rapping with the occasional peppering of singing thrown in, so this is a nice surprise! His voice is so warm and wonderful!

Those final notes at the end are so hard for me to sing. I've been practicing this amazing song for 9 months now, and I always run out of breath. And I always get shocked when I am able to belt the notes.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the voice of Lin? Ive been around since 21 Chump Street and In The Heights to Hamilton, and never have I heard the full vocal potential of him.
I mean sure, he's got grade A+ lungs, look at any rap he's done, but damn that final New York. He's also got a lot of emotion coming through, it reminds me of Frank Sinatra singing about New York.
This may be a Hamildrop but I cant think about this being Lin giving his thanks to New York, and frankly, I would love to give him a standing ovation for this song, it honestly sums up New York City perfectly.
((Ps. I am actually from NYC, so that part about fighting like old couples and feeling safe in a crowd is very true. I don't know, maybe I'm biased haha))

By my understanding, yes. It’s his reaction to Lin’s work and its effect on the world.
No, it's a moment in the Chernow book that Lin and the director Tommy Kail both circled as a point to maybe include in the show but never did. New York put on a parade to celebrate Hamilton after the adopting of the constitution in the state, one of the only times he was celebrated. According to Lin, it would fit right in after the Federalist Papers, during Nonstop-which was why it wasn't used as Nonstop closes Act One. Hope this helps!

I just want to say how much Hamilton has effected me and my life. I have attempted suicide 3 times at the age of 12. Hamilton has shown me that I need to tell my story and continue it. The *actual* (actual meaning Alexander only) solo song that Alexander should've gotten, but never did. If this made the musical, this would be *THE* "One Short Day" and "Friend Like Me" of the show. This also would've made the promos instead of "My Shot", surprising the audience that Hamilton is not your average Broadway musical (If they kept the final songs in along with this one). I love it! I absolutely love it! I felt the emotion, the nostalgia, and the bravado of this whole thing!!!
I agree! If this song was actually the act 1 closer for Hamilton, it would have been a showstopper FOR SURE.
And this would have also been the "Don't Rain On My Parade" for the show, but I do get that it was cut from Hamilton for a reason.

Well, enough everyones.
I love this so much! This is all of Lin’s hard work being appreciated by this stubborn society people call home. This song shows everything Lin wanted to happen. This shows how we are all free and independent and we are all different in our own way. He is saying we all might not know each other but we all work as a team and how he will never ever stop trying!
This is what I want in every song, not some stupid Ariana Grande song called “god is a woman”. People need to realize there is much more then fame and a good picture to impress others. This is what I would like to see and hear from the world.
