    Way to go! At first I was thinking, man, that's an 'ol ganny cart! But nice job making those wheels fit on there and the welds on the washers look great too. Cleaned up good, ready for double coupons, the line at the pharmacy and an 8 pack of bottled coca-cola!

      +Craig Arndt Thanks..This really is over built now ..But I can load it down with the same amount as I did before ..which is a lot of weight and I know it will roll a lot easier than with the old wheels

    Thanks for sharing this video. My folding shopping cart's front wheels- the bar- needs replacing because it's bent. I tried straightening it, but couldn't. I would have to probably disassemble it at a time when it's not in use, in order to straighten it or replace the bar and wheels altogether. This cart has been a good friend, and I want to be good it back. I have not found a video here or any website on a google search that explains replacement, disassembly or reassembly of this cart. :( Please do share any info & references with me when any of you can. I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

    This video inspired me to find a solution to the problem I have with my 6 wheel trolley. I am disabled, so my trolley is very important to me, the front wheels are dual and take the weight no problem at all, but the rears are single wheels and the problem was, they were only partially on the axle and then a sort of cotter pin inside the wheel, kept the wheel on. Over time with weight on the trolley, the wheel is pushed over, so the weight is not going through an upright wheel, so in the end it fails. I made a spacer out of some plastic retaining bolt housings for a washing machine, the ones that stop it being damaged in transit, then I forced the wheel on the axle fully and put a C clip in the end where the cotter pin on the wheels sits, so the wheel cannot come off. Hopefully it works long term, but already I can see the wheels are a lot more upright. Like many thing these days, I think its was designed that way to fail, so you have to buy new wheels more often than you should. A plastic wheel can take an awful lot of weight, as long as it used in the right way and the strain is transmitted through it strongest point.

      Its amazing how helpful the internet and people are, you can find a solution to most things, if you apply yourself in the right way and have an open mind.Thanks for taking the time to share your fix. I would like a welder someday and also a 3D printer, I am old school, I like to fix what I have, rather than buy a new one.

    I use threaded rod, nylon locking nuts, PEX tubing as a spacer and washers as I've no means of welding. Granny carts are a life saver. Arthritis in my early 30's and yea it is the only way to shop! But those wheels they use >.< I went to lawn mower wheels eight or so years ago and have not looked back since other than the aggravation of having to shim them which lawn sprinklers seem to have a small plastic tube inside of that is always popping out find them on the ground all the time works a treat as a shim. The pair I have now are just starting to wear to the point I am considering getting new wheels. They have outlasted more than a few metal tube frames easy. Think I am on cart three with them now, could be four :P they take a pounding with cat litter and food, groceries and generally probably far exceeding manufacturers max weight on a regular basis :P

      +keeperofthegood I do have some Nylon round stock but It is too much work for me to make bushings on my lathe This cart will save a lot of wear on my back ....and arms ..we back up to the front step and I can set the cart up and fill it with more weight now and it should roll better than the narrow wheels that were on it ..This cart had to have been used for years ..the wheel centers were worn out bad and the cheap pins holding the front ones were bent and worn

    • @keeperofthegood
      @keeperofthegood Před 8 lety

      +not2fast4u2c Indeed!! I think I am just plain hard on my cart, it gets used daily by me and the family and eventually the wire frame snaps in a way I cannot fix (needs welding and I'm an apartment dweller). An improvement I found too, not sure if yours will be the same, my wheel base changed, got wider and I found with just that extra half or three quarter inch that turning and controlling the cart when full was a lot better. Where did you find front wheels? Those ones are the ones I have had no luck finding locally.

      +keeperofthegood My front wheels are off a welding cart from harbor freight ...My front end is now wider than the back and the cart leans back at about one inch which is okay ...I usually will tip the cart back when turning it so I hope the wider front end works okay

    I replaced my cart wheels with much wider 8" lawnmower wheels that were cheap. The lawnmower axle holes were 0.50" in diameter. The cart had 0.30" diameter axles, but I had previously repaired several sink taps that were leaking, and did so by replacing the "brass seats", and I held on to the old "brass seats". The inner hole diameter of the "brass seats" were 0.30". The outer threaded part was just over 0.50". So I screwed the "brass seats" into the lawnmower wheel axle holes, one on each side, and bingo, I could now put them on my cart axles.
