DISCOVERY: Is THIS the Oldest Portrayal of The Sphinx? | Ancient Architects

  • If you follow my channel, you’ll have seen that over the past few weeks I have taken a closer look at the Sphinx as well as the origins of dynastic Egyptian history.
    The subject of Early Egypt is huge and even when I uploaded my last video, I knew that my ideas would no doubt develop as I learn more, but I didn’t think they would develop quite so quickly, because what I think I have discovered is the first ever depiction of The Great Sphinx, and it has been hidden in plain sight for years.
    Before you dismiss the claims you need to hear the evidence and then you can make your mind up and decide if the history of the Sphinx is far different than you could have ever imaged.

      Amazing revelation! I'm still not convinced the sphinx was originally carved as a lion by a predynastic people, but it certainly could have been. You have effectively proven though, that it once held a papyrus and later a lotus fan on it's back.....an idea I've never heard of before but which you have illustrated well. Good research work there!

      Hi, Matt,
      When you asked cfapps if he had any information on the "fan" in a Post on your last video, I posted the reply I have copied below. As my brain damage and vision problems make recall, research, dictating and collating a LOOOONG process for me, you clearly missed my post and were well into compiling this video even before I submitted it. Anyway, here's what I said:
      Djed-Khonsu-iuf-ankh was an important Official under Takelot II - a 23rd Dynasty ruler of Upper and Middle Egypt in the divided Kingdom. Several generations of the family held important positions. I have found dates placing Takelot IIs reign somewhere around 880-830BCE, with his Capital at Thebes (modern Luxor).
      Hawass claims to have found the family house of Djed-Khonsu-iuf-ankh in the town of El-Bawiti, Bahariya, which is a desert oasis 370km (230 miles) south west of the Giza Plateau and 478km (297 miles) north of the Upper Egypt Capital, Thebes (modern Luxor). 88km (54.5 miles) north west of Thebes is the Abydos (modern al Balyana) Cemetary, from where grave items, including a statue bearing his name were excavated.
      Abydos (al Balyana) to Thebes (Luxor), following the Nile out of necessity, is actually 141km (87.5 miles)!
      While Takelot II ruled over Middle and Upper Egypt, the Giza Necropolis - and the Great Sphinx - lay in Lower Egypt.
      As to the papyrus, I notice that in front of the Sphinx is what looks like the Hedjet crown of Upper Egypt, which would be correct. As the Great Sphinx may have been an iconic Lower Egypt emblem, perhaps sphinx depictions in general had become generic.
      The shape above its back is a palmette, a common motif throughout Egyptian history:
      From Christopher Muscato, University of Northern Colorado, via study.com - basic, accessible information can be found in funny places:
      Palmette
      "As far as we can tell, the story of the palmette motif begins all the way back in ancient Egypt. Depictions of radiating flowers and plants were common aesthetic motifs used in tombs, temples, and even clothing. For example, a lotus design was often used to represent the union of Upper and Lower Egypt into a single kingdom. Over time, most of these radiating plant designs became associated with the palm tree and symbol of Upper Egypt, and that is how the palmette emerged.
      "... The palmette was also found on funeral monuments, coffins, and death masks.... Overall, it was an important symbol and a ubiquitous motif in Egyptian art and architecture."
      If it came to represent a separate Upper Egypt, perhaps placing it above the Sphinx was symbolic?
      Some people try to forcibly conflate the palmette with the hieroglyph Akhet, the representation of the rising and setting Sun, the "Horizon" -
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akhet_(hieroglyph)
      - purely on the similarity of the SHAPES and that palms are living, so can represent life. This is clearly a ludicrously extreme stretching of logic.
      One cannot mention Akhet without also bringing up Aker, though:
      Aker en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aker_(deity)
      Aker was first depicted under Hor Aha (1st or 2nd Pharaoh, 1st Dynasty) and Djer (2nd or 3rd Pharaoh, 1st Dynasty) as the torso of a recumbent lion with a widely opened mouth. Later, he was depicted as two recumbent lion torsos merged with each other and still looking away from each other. This evolved to the twin Lions, Duaj and Sefer (Yesterday and Tomorrow) supporting the Akhet bewteen them!
      He was first described as one of the earth gods "Guarding The Gate To the Yonder Site".
      Sounds like someone reached Giza, found a giant LION "Guarding The Gate...", adopted it into their developing mythology - and later found the now missing SECOND monolithic statue!
      What already stood at the top of the Plateau, behind the "Gate"?
      - Some similarities there in the main body, I just had a wild moment at the end!
      Another very interesting Theory from you. I have been taken down a path of Mainstream research from this that you may find interesting, but it will take me a while to get it all perfect.

      Ancient Architects love your videos! Just wanted to add to anyone confused why 'Upper Egypt' is in the South-- it's because it's 'up' the River Nile; it flows South to North, into the Mediterranean basin. Just as with the dated terms 'Upper' and 'Lower' Canada, the Great Lakes flow via the St. Lawrence River into its Gulf in the North East.

    I’ve always thought the Sphinx head is out of proportion with the rest of the carving, making me think it was something else and the head carved in dynastic times. The erosion is much more severe than the pyramids making me think it has to be far older. This would also explain why the erosion on the head is far less than the body

      Just like most of ancient Egypt’s marvels, the Egyptians stumbled across these ruins and built upon then. Egypt was one of Atlantis’s colonies. Atlantis itself was destroyed but not all of her colonies. Similar to how the Inca stumbled across places like Machu Picchu and built on top of them. Or how the romans stumbled across Baalbek and built Heliopolis on top of the trilithons or the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Humans have a tendency of building new buildings on top of older ancient ruins. I mean if u had your family and your travelling through the wilderness searching for a nice place to make a new home and u stumble across a massive ruined complex... where would U rather build your new home? In an empty spot where u have to build everything? Or in a place where half the construction is already done for u? Not a hard decision if u ask me... especially since these old ruins are usually built in areas where water and food are prevalent they make good places to call home

      Travis G
      First, he doesn't do much research. He pretty much reports the work of other people. I'm no different, but I recognize that fact. In his video "The Great Tutankhamen Hoax" he just dismisses the DNA work that ultimately proved the mummy was Tut. He just says it's wrong - nothing about how, why, and who said so. He also claimed inbreeding caused made the results useless. SORRY, you cannot fool DNA expert. They can resolve any inbreeding. Don't you remember just a month or two ago the California killer was caught just using related data bases of relatives? Of course he's going to over look the DNA results to promote his ideas. Honestly do you think Howard Carter could have fake all that? Why? The discovery of Nefertiti alone would have been great.
      How about his "No Void Inside The Great Pyramid of Egypt". What is AA not telling you? There weren't two muon detectors, there were three. The third detector was OUTSIDE the pyramid and could NOT been detecting a void in the Grand gallery. All three detectors found a void as stated. Further, he said the void doesn't fit any theory. Actually it fits Pierre Houdin tomb theory. He has been saying there's a chamber in that general location for years.
      Also, when it comes to his work on acoustics. He never produced one testable model that can do what he claims. Tell me what granite stone did you cut just using sound? He's a GREAT (?) researcher. I am not. I'm just a janitor at Walmart.
      P.S.
      Here's are alternate ideas about Tut.

    Has anyone considered that the water erosion could have been from running water and not rain? It has crossed my mind that perhaps when the Nile was running much closer to the Giza plateau, that it could have been diverted in some small way to flood the sphinx enclosure - like decorative water works. This idea makes even more sense in the context of this video, with the sphinx representing Hapi.

    • @VibrationsfromMirror
      @VibrationsfromMirror Před 6 lety +6

      lotus are water flowers. I also have thought maybe a causeway or mote was involved as there are seemingly older walls that were also eroded. It may sustain the regular flow of the Nile floods but not flood event. Should be easier to date the flood now as evidence comes in from around the world.

    • @amfinc2
      @amfinc2 Před 6 lety +8

      Yes, I have considered this, glad someone else has too. Man-made water erosion. Your hypothesis is good, a fountain/decorative structure. I'm going to think about that. I do think it was a functioning structure involving water, whatever function that was. Thanks for the nice comment.

    I knew it would be worth waiting,kudos,really excellent💥👌🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍. It's also won me £20,which was worth more when I placed the bet with a friend ,standing looking at/ regarding the images on the pallette. It was around the time of the contentious discussion regarding the return of the piece/part of the beard of the Sphinx(mid/late 80's). Part of which is now actually on display,but was then in the basement of the British Museum, in pieces - a chunk was being used to prop open a door! Your excellent set of illustrations as well as the small carvings were known and I've always been fascinated by the old B&W photos and the man hole cover in on the back of the sphinx. It was before the hypothesis by Mr Schoch was published, but,I grew up in Oman and did my 'O' level geography on erosion in Wadi/desert areas;difference between water and sand! I've lost track of the videos I've left comments under,but,regarding the identity, I suggested that for me, it - the head - had been re-carved ,at least, three times. Having also enjoyed theatre/film set design and seen what the Egyptians were capable of with regard to "papier mache/painting" it would have been a vast,but,not impossible task to transform the Sphinx - (regardless of what the stone was carved as - and as you stated in one of your previous videos it had supposedly been struck by lightning and broken,which would indicate some forms of metal rod/headpiece - lightning rod - inserted in the hole in the head of the effigy?Where as you well know,is another anomalous "hole" again, covered by a cover!) - into Anubis,if necessary paint whole thing black ,which would tie in with the pyramid text from Saqqara, but,that was/is dated to 'only' about 2400BCE? A mask like that would long ago have rotted to nothing,if it ever existed? You also showed evidence for lion headed effigies with your photo of the Löwenmensch figure and with the subsequent discoveries of the 'sphinx' figures at Nevali Çori and Kortik Tepe, the assumption that the VERY FIRST figure would most likely have had a lions body and most probably a lions head,though,it wasn't anathema to have a human head. If contemporaneous with the discoveries in Turkey, what ever was sticking out of the ground at the time of Iry-Hor/Ka and Narmer, would have invariably been VERY weathered or possibly recently re-carved into the face you suggest the image on the Narmer Pallette,represents. I do remember my friend,once I'd drawn his attention to the similarities between the face,with the 'bird' above and the vanquished foe (I wasn't so knowledgeable about symbology in those days😀) did point out how crisp both heads looked...i.e. no weathered head of the known Sphinx. Having walked around the actual Sphinx,I just can't imagine it EVER being an Anubis Headed figure made from stone,but,a composite of stone and a vast paper mache mask,painted? What we do know,but,is never stressed enough, is that ALL stone carvings,particularly Egyptian and Greek were heavily painted (just as the pyramids, when fresh (or refinished) would have been brilliantly white,with a possible gold capstone), too many recreations simply make The Sphinx,stone coloured! Consider there is after all,after all this time,evidence of red pigment on the present face and traces of blue and yellow are mentioned elsewhere(is very quite ascertained,where) would suggest that it was as gaudy as the Parthenon or other Greek statues,which we now prize for their esthetic good taste,being simply beautifully proportioned marble statues/architecture. It thrilling to be still around at such an exciting time; the fall from grace of "The Hawass ("I dont believe in radar"!)/Lehner paradigm" is finally being constructively (and in the case of your good self and the awesome Chuck - cfapps7865 - the ONLY two channels for whom I have 'alerts ON'!) AND with civility and good nature,a discourse is going on,I won't say open😉😀 -utilising the source materials and the work of the great "Alternative Historians" along with your own phenomenal research, time and effort - we no longer have to wait to be told by "National Geographic" ,what Hawass and his like have colluded to tell the masses. That one day we might have a definitive answer.....who knows,but,that we're able to be privy to as impressive a discourse,is quite awesome. LOVE your latest hypothesis let's see,how it goes,but,thank you for the work and the entertainment. Much,much appreciated. Have a great week.

    Most of what I see are archetypes that are a lot older than the periods you are extrapolating from. Most importantly, the sky of Earth was considerably different than it is today.

    What an intriguing and astute bit of work my friend. Often the clues that are staring us in the face are the toughest to recognize. I have examined that pallet in detail a hundred times and this idea never occured to me. As usual I find your presentation here both fascinating and worthy of serious consideration. Your videos are a welcome part of my must watch list, thank you so much. TNQ

    Well, I don't know if this theory is correct or not but at least it does something I've always thought "Egyptologists" ought to do more of: look at contemporaneous art work for depictions of important monuments and locations. They are sure to be stylised, but in all likelihood theyre probably also basically accurate.
    Another bold, yet well-researched and supported, original hypothesis from AA.

    This channel is unstopable!
    Great work, as we get closer all the time.
    The watergodess Hapi seems to have been a logical choise to make, after the havy erosion.
    Erosion btw mainly from shortly after the YD period, when ice whas transformed in a lot of water, and has to become ice again as it is now.
    The leavel of water had to be 75 meter above sealevel now, and did not damp out in the atmosphere so quickly, which we see in the icecore results too.
    It took some 1500 to 2000 years to restore.
    Evidence I found also at gigalresearch.com, where Sherif El Morsi has given his results and pictures ( including the exoskeleton he found on top of the second layer of the Menkaure tempelwall.)
    This means, a lot of water erosion by incomming waves on the nek and head of the lion.
    The idea of a lioness fits better in early times, as being the gardian of the records.
    Followed by your given explanation it finaly comes clear to all of us.
    Superbe!!

    This video was awesome man I'm on board. I was blown away by the connections you made, especially with how it fits into the mysterious shafts on the top of the Sphinx. I still think there are tunnels underneath the fact based on ancient writings and the shafts in the closed boxes at the base of the sphinx that the general public has not seen in any amount of detail. But you are likely spot on with the creation and eventual adoption of the monument.

  • @bdfurlow
    @bdfurlow Před 6 lety +8

    You lost me on the videos leading up to this... but this really does clear up a lot. The timelines match well and the evidence is sufficient. The 2500bc construction date make no sense whichever angle you look at it. The Sphinx has been lost and found again many times in it's history, and may very well become lost to us again in the future.

    I like your theory, but there could be other twists in the story. Perhaps the Sphinx was already there, buried for thousands of years as Robert Schoch has theorized and in pre-dynastic times, not knowing there was a body under the sand, it was re-purposed to fit that of the God of the Nile. This slight change to the theory fits well with everyone. It explains why the Sphinx enclosure is so old, it fits the art on the Pallet of Namer, and it also fits later art in Dynastic Egypt.

  • @Wilsignu
    @Wilsignu Před 6 lety +3

    Great work my Friend. Your observations are definitely groundbreaking news. Especially seeing that hole in the back of the Sphinx. That hole should be tested for traces of your fan theory. There would almost certainly be some type of remnants inside the hole, where the fans rested.
    This is exactly why the entire Giza site, along with all other Pyramid sites around the world should be taken over by the USA, so they can be properly explored and revealed. These places are far too important to be used as Tourist attractions, or segregated completely from the knowledge seeking public. The whole world is just Wasting Time.

    This makes total sense ... just wanted to add that the tail portrayed on the Sphinx totally eliminates the idea of an Anubis or a jackal. There isn't one jackal who has the tail profile of the Sphinx or a lion for that matter in pre-dynastic/dynastic works. I know it may seem ridiculous to some to draw a conclusion based on artistic phenomenon ... but I'll take it to the bank considering what's available to us today ... let's not forget that the Sphinx was definitely submerged in water, maybe not from the beginning, but the god Hapi makes total sense with the Nile running next and/or through it in the past. The Nile brings the life ...

    I love listening to you hypothesize! You make me want to learn more about who did what in ancient Egypt. Stuff I thought was a snooze fest last time I remember covering it in high school. Sounds like they had a lot of science and drama and put it all over the place for us to figure out. The more we find out, the more questions. Like a weird evidence based soap opera mystery that tries to tease out verifiable truth from the ever present and past groups of interfering people and thick layer of magical nonsense we make up to explain things we don’t understand! Love the show.
