How many and which nepenthes do you own? Also I’m so glad you didn’t use the nepenthes. They generally hate being super wet since they are not big plants. The bowl looks great though!!!
i personally wouldnt keep a nepenthes in the same bog bowl as the rest of te carnivorous plants just because their the only carnivorous plant in that collection that isnt native to the type of bogs the others are, but otherwise its a super cute idea! i have all of mine besides the nepenthes (which stay inside) in a big tub of water outside all summer and they love it, might be something fun to try!
Let’s be real, it’s not the best care in general. That sarr is not getting enough light in that setup. And is it just me or do you think that ping might rot. I found that my pings needed way less water than drosera and sarrs.
@@SF-ci1mj yeah my sarracenias and flytraps are all gearing up for dormancy right now and im reminded of another reason why i dont keep mine in the same pot but instead individual pots in large tubs of water, ive seen people lose multiple 5+ year old plants from root rot bacteria colonizing plants, i dont keep pings personally but i do care for the mother plant pings at my job and their water schedule is significantly lighter than the ones used for our hardy carnivorous plants...plants with specialized care requirements just dont do well if you lump them all together in one pot

Thats so funny, when im out in the garden planting things i'll grab a handful of dirt and take a deep sniff. I love the smell of soil, my neighbors probably think i am weird. I love your channel!
One thing to know about using perlite is to make sure the perlite does "not" contain any fertilizer or additives because it will also kill carnivorous plants. No Miracle Grow perlite because it contains fertilizer. Also, the Sarracenia carnivorous plants need full sun and a dormant winter phase from October to February. 🌱
Oooh! 💚🌱That is a gorgeous arrangement! Never had carnivorous other than nepenthes. I Iuvvv them to death!❤ seriously.🖤☠️ .I've HAD two!! 💀🪦💀 Im just not the best with plants that need to stay damp. Currently have a calathea that I'm super proud of keeping alive! 😂 I should try again with your recommended medium, and since these like similar conditions , I could try again with different kinds!
Awesome idea, however some of these plants require dormancy and some do not… that will cause problems at some point… if you would like to make a long term bog rather use just temperates… and certainly not a Nepenthes in a bog
I have a question that no one answers! I have a Venus fly trap. It's trying to go dormant, which I know it needs, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to make sure it stays moist when it's tucked away? I'm going to put it in my makeup fridge BC that stays at about 45 degrees and is dark. Can you please help me and tell me if I need to keep it moist during the months it's in dormancy? Second, when I take it out of dormancy, do I just pull it out of its cool dark place and stick it under the grow light or do I have to go through a process to acclimate? THANK YOU! PS I got my trap BC of you! If dormancy goes well I'm hoping to get other cultivars and some other carnivorous plants! You make them look creepy yet fun! 💞
You can use a container, clean the roots of the vft and place it in moist sphagnum moss. Since you cover the container, it should stay moist the entire 3 months. Make sure to use a fungicide before placing them in the fridge to avoid mold. Let them be outside during cold temperatures so they start getting used to the low temperatures before moving them to the fridge. Youll want to acclimate them. The leaves will spend 3 months in total darkness and will be burned if put under growlights right away.
@@jbm1444totally agree , just use a ziplock bag, and check on it every 2-3 weeks to make sure the sphagnum isn’t drying out. You also don’t have to gradually make it colder, just chuck it straight in the fridge 😂 that’s how i force dormancy
@@jbm1444 Thank you! It's actually already colder than the fridge here! I do have it just in loose spaghnum (well not compact so it doesn't bounce around but it isn't getting rot).
When I first saw your short on drosera I had to have one. My mum bought me one for my birthday and it did really well but about a month ago it started to die, I didn’t change anything. I’m trying my best to save it but I don’t know if I can 😭😭 I now have one ping, four drosera, three VFT and more carnivorous plants on the way, wish me luck 😖
The sarracenia and sundew need tons of light, others not so much, they're not meant to grow together, also sarracenia is native to the US, so they need winter dormancy 😢
I've been doing this too, but slightly different. I'm wondering what will work better. I also put them in a glass container, but also used a plastic pot to put the plants in so I can have the entire pot be surrounded by demineralized water so the little bog doesn't dry out so easily.
for people wanting to recreate this cute idea:nepenthes have very different care needs than the other species. nepenthes is more akin to an orchid, as they grow on trees in their native enviorment. it would lead to some very discouraging results, and unnecessary disapointment if it was planted with the bog species. also, only plant in a mix with no nutrients at all. perlite, pumice, long tail spagnum moss, orchid bark, are all good choices for soil mixes. make sure the ingredients havent had nutrients added before planting your lil bulbs in it. especially nitrogen. these plants are so cool, and evolved to get their nitrogen from organic matter :) that's why it's important we don't feed it more, as it will shock it and kill it. in terms of lighting, they need artificial lighting for about 8-12 hours a day if you live in a climate with short, grey days as of now. if possible, get a moistermeter, to make sure the soil is not wet or dry, but just moist, all the time. if it dries out, your plant could die (nepenthes would drop all the pitchers would drop off and the plant would either die or stagnate). most carnivorous plants get shock when you bring them home, though not enough for them to die (as long as you care for them and dont forget them). give it 3-4 months and they should have bounced right back. you can water rith RM water (reverse osmisis), distilled, demineralised, or rainwater. just make sure its not basic (ph wise speaking lol). just a psa because theres only so much a 60 second short can include! :)

You can enhance that pot by putting a nursery pot upside down on the bottom, cover all with white peat moss and then fill with water. The pot on the ground will grant an extra reservoir of water for the plants. Side note: there are some small orchids that would go great with this. Pogonia ophioglossoides is super cute.
