♦️Fun Fact: the closed mall featured in this Vlog is Northridge Mall in Northern Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It opened in 1972 then closed in 2003.
One event that lead to this malls decline occurred in 1992 when Jesse Michael Anderson stabbed his wife to death in the parking lot then said two black men had attacked them. Jesse would later be killed in prison. This prison murder got a lot of local attention because two people were killed and the other killed inmate was the infamous cannibal serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Although this event had a negative impact, in my opinion, the mall had never reached its potential and was already suffering from a lack of shoppers and crime. As the general area became blighted, crime increased and shoppers went elsewhere. Even when I was in high school during the American mall heyday of the the early 80’s, we would avoid this area.
About 1 1/2 hours drive to the north of this closed mall is Appleton, Wisconsin where the Fox River Mall is one of the most successful malls in the U.S.A.
With easy highway access, shoppers from the many towns north of Milwaukee to Green Bay chose the newer and safer Fox River Mall over Northridge Mall. The more the Fox River Mall grew, the larger the draw until the Fox River Mall became the largest mall in Wisconsin.

Actually the shooting of Jesse Anderson's wife was in the parking lot of the TGIFridays restaurant, not the actual mall itself.
Not really. The area was blighted by increased crime, which drove shoppers away. It's a shame because it was such a cool place to hang out as teens. In the early 90s, there were 3 night clubs in the surrounding properties that were always jumping. On the opposite side of Brown Deer Road from the mall, there is a strip mall that is virtually empty.

this is crazy because i grew up in this area of Milwaukee and remember shopping at Northridge mall as a child and i've always wondered what it looked like inside since abandonment. Also no big CZcamsrs are ever here so this is exciting! Welcome to Milwaukee you guys.

YOU WERE IN MILWAUKEE DIDDLY DANG IT. I only went to north ridge mall once before in closed! It sister mall south ridge is still open (but for much longer tbh). Both the malls were built exactly the same, south ridge looks way more modern now but I do remember when it has those corner dome kiosk things.
Seeing the inside of Northridge Mall brought back some great Christmas memories you should have seen how well they decorated it during Christmas 🎄🎄

I lived a five minute walk away from this mall when I was younger and I always saw it empty, deserted, and spooky. It's so weird to see inside it!

Just went there this spring and visited an abandoned hospital from the 50s. Still had everything from it, boilers, tunnels, rooms, old equipment. It was crazy and probably the scariest thing i've ever done. Strange place that is..

Nice Video! Something sad about a vacant mall, if you listen, you can almost hear the voices of the families and shoppers that once was. I enjoy the ease of online shopping but nothing replaces the mall with your friends.

I have gone to New York 6 times and always looked to meet Casey, but now he is in my home town city and when he comes back to film I'm definitely meeting him. Also Casey, definitely definitely go to the third ward and east side. Great parts of town with sneaker stores, awesome architecture, and cool people!
It's so crazy to see you running on the same running paths I used to run on when I went to school in Milwaukee before moving to New York. Next time, you should visit the Third Ward. You can get some amazing drone action there.

So surreal seeing a mall I grew up visiting as a kid in that condition. I think I saw my first movie in that theater! It's been closed for a number of years with just a couple of discount stores taking up the anchor tenant spaces but clearly defunct now. Crazy!

My name is Nick Pelant, I am 22 years old. I know this is a very small change you will read this so I will cut to the chase. I live in a small town called Cedarburg in wisconsin, I live just 10 minutes from the mall where you will be shooting your Christmas video. I got the chance to go into the mall in 2015 when an airsoft group got the chance to do airsoft games inside. I was the photographer for them. My grandma worked in the mall in 1989-1999 she now lives in alexian village next to the mall. Long story short, it took me 7 years to get into the mall, since the airsoft meet I have created a group called “the northrige project” on facebook, it is a group that I started for Milwaukee residents to get the chance to get inside the mall one last time for a tour before it gets redeveloped or demolished. I have had 0% luck getting access again and its been very frustrating. I have thought of something that could help you and me out. What if I held a tour meet up for 50-100 People and charged them $50 a person and all the proceeds would go to your guys movie/ your travel expenses. This would be a dream come true not only for me but for the residents of Milwaukee. Please please please let me know if this is something we could work out, it would mean the world to us. Pretty sure that is Northridge Mall which closed down many years ago. I grew up near by and remember going there as a kid to get toys at Kay-Bee and saw many movies at that very theatre! Wish I could go there again, and very much excited to see what you have planned!

I went to this mall as a child. It's so strange seeing the shops you used to walk in to completely vacant. I remember the last part of the mall that they kept open was the food court. It came down to 2 restaurants. Then it was closed for Good.

I grew up going to this mall in my youth. Then brown deer (city) went to shit and everything closed. Milwaukee is a great city Casey. You need to check out the waterfront which is great for runs, downtown bar scene and the Miller Brewery!

best wishes with your projects. I worked at Northridge Cinema from 1990 until it closed 1996. Once a thriving busy area 1972- 1991 until businesses increasingly left and many families nearby sold their homes.

It was so sad that it was abandoned. I would love to see that used to something. Our local mall was having trouble and our schools were looking for space, so our college is using it. Our high school needs space as well. I think they should use an empty big block store.
