Shinichi Maki - is the captain of the Kainan basketball team, and reputedly the best player in the region. He was crowned MVP of the prefecture twice. As captain of the team, he commands a lot of respect, and his teammates follow his orders to the letter.

Ultimately, what sets Maki apart from Sendoh, and gains him the title of The King, is his mindset. When Sendoh plays, he's looking for a good game, someone he can play with, or, in the case of Rukawa, against. When Maki plays, he's looking to, above all else, carry his team to victory. This is because unlike Sendoh, Maki is saddled with the responsibility of bringing home the trophy for the 17th year running, and the fact that he is able to do so without failure is testament to his drive and desire to win.
Both of them are fantastic players in their own right, and both of them are recognised as leaders by their teams, but the way Maki and Sendoh approach basketball as a sport is vastly different. To Sendoh, basketball is contemplative, an art or a philosophy even. But to Maki, it is a battle that he will charge into and fight.

This means he can pull amazing stuff out but heâs not a war machine like Maki, thatâs the reason why Maki required 4 players to stop him while Rukawa and Akagi (while heâs also marking Uozumi )can keep Sendo without scoring that much
So humble and the determination to Win in every match , Anzai sensei send 4 member's of shohoku (Akagi , rukawa , miyagi and mitusi) to stop that's monster insane , I'll understand now . There's a reason why Captain Maki is the 2 time MVP of Kanagawa , Underrated player.

for sure, he is that classic point guard who can improve any team he is on, and is strong enough to play one on one against anyone, I would have liked to see him more, but who knows in this movie that will come out there he show up

They didnât need to, they were extremely clear about him. He can break past anyone like a war machine and to break past him you need Rukawa to give it his all. The incredible thing about him is his adaptability, he stopped every single of his opponents and having him on the field is terrifying because he will most likely outplay you. He may not di many flashy moves but his calm is incredible, he can be against people much taller, not flinch a second and shoot after heavy impact. Only Sendo pulls this off when heâs at his peak, not every time. Arguably Sawakita is a better player but Maki is a true captain who has both Akagiâs pressure ability (people are scared to face him) and the most reliable ball handling and passes along with that scoring ability, of these Miyagi only has the ball handling and passes with much less confidence and calm.
There have been so many great players in slam dunk but for me Maki was very special ... the king of the kings đ€Ž ... he has always been my favourite and this video makes me fall in love with him more and more â€ïž thanx for sharing â€ïž

I digged Maki, thought he was like a villain at first, but he was just trying to make his team win, also imagine the pressure to be captain of a team that has gone to the Nationals every year for like 16 years. Obviously its not all on him, but you still don't want to be captain over the team that breaks that long streak in your school's history.
agree. at first i viewed him as your typical arrogant villain (that'd get buttkicked by the main character lol) but as their match progressed i find my self gradually liking him and even admire him! only at that moment that i realised that his seemingly arrogant remarks at the beginning was no trashy talk cause man really know his game. he kind of remind me of ushiwaka from haikyuu, for the same reason.
He is maybe not the most skilled but probably the most complete player in the series.
He is like Luka Doncic in NBA. Can do everything and plays like a veteran.

@@HadeyanUtkan Sendoh is lazy just off the pitch , but on the pitch his mentality is equal or even stronger than Maki's , any other player in there game vs Shohoku would've been collapsed , but he didn't , and even maki called him a tensai for taking all that pressure on him .

Since the first Slam dunk movie heâs officially not the best anymore, thatâs Sawakita for sure. If you didnât know while Maki had to rely on his teammates with 4 players defending against him, Sawakita scored against 5 players and was nearly unstoppable without a precise strategy involving all the defense.

Sendoh is the most perfect player in the serie , Maki can't play in many positions with 100% efficiency like Sendoh , also Maki can't shot three points . Maki is perfect as a point guard but sendoh is perfect as a player .

Sendoh IS the player that he cant play his own position. HE has to play as scorer and leader because of lack of teammates BQs(Other Guards). and that makes both pressure to him

No, he never did a 3 point shot or a dunk but im sure he could do both because:
He has great shooting at mid distance so im sure long distance wouldnt be a problem, besides he always tricks players into fouling him and scoring his free throw, so thats a 3 point play
He once blocked a Dunk from Sendog which means he jumped as high enough to make a dunk himself

@@harvestmoon4968 Fujima may be a PG but the way he shoots is exactly like Bird. Plus before Shohoku became a team to be reckoned with, Kainan and Shoyo were the top 2 seeded teams in Kanagawa. Maki and Fujima were rivals and their rivalry mirrors the Lakers Celtics in the 80s and the Magic Bird rivalry. Maki is Magicâs image and Fujima is Birdâs image though different positions.
