      @@CertifiedShadetreeYou must have long arms to be able to reach everything without having the car on ramps. My arms are pretty long too, but I just barely reach everything lol. I thought I was going to be cool like you and do the same thing but the previous installers tightened my oil filter so much that there is no chance I can get it off with my own strength. So tomorrow I either purchase low profile ramps (so I don’t pull the front air dam) or I get something to help me takeoff the filter and just carefully do everything like you did no ramps.

    Why do you fill the filter with oil before you put it back? In other videos I've watched, they only rubbed the gasket with oil and that was all.

    • @CertifiedShadetree
      @CertifiedShadetree  Před 2 lety +4

      When you don't fill the filter with oil, your engine will go dry/have no oil pressure for a couple of seconds when you first start it. Compound that unnecessary wear over time and you shorten the life of the engine. Having the filter full ensures instantaneous oil pressure when you first start the engine.

    • @CertifiedShadetree

      The "R" filter is more for having maximum oil pressure when the auto stop/start system fires up the engine. I'd say if you bypassed the auto stop/start so it never ever engages, then go ahead and use the standard filter.

    2017 Chevy Cruze LT 1.4L
    I ordered one from Amazon. This one www.amazon.com/ACDelco-UPF64R-Specialty-Engine-Filter/dp/B014VZED5M/ref=pd_ybh_a_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=E2MWTBJ5P3BJ3MRHQZV1
    and they sent me this imgur.com/a/1SFtV6Z
    It says UPF64R but doesn't have any of the other stuff. It also says 12670058 and came in a plain white box aside from that sticker. Is this safe to use? I chose amazon for the convenience and because after shipping rock auto would be more expensive.

    • @CertifiedShadetree
      @CertifiedShadetree  Před 3 lety +2

      I received a weird blue UPF64R filter from Amazon once as well and I didn't have any issues with it. The one they sent you doesn't appear to be an Ultraguard Gold, though, so I would maybe change the oil a bit sooner than the oil life monitor tells you to (change it at 4000 miles or so.) The Ultraguard Gold is made for synthetic oil and longer duration between oil changes, that plain blue filter not so much.
      As far as RockAuto goes, I myself have been buying 2 filters at a time for each of my vehicles to cut down on the shipping cost. Going through them is peace of mind that you're getting the correct part!!

      I'll ask my dad if he's ok with using it, if not I'll return it and look elsewhere (home depot seems to offer free shipping)
      Strange though, Amazon has two listings for the UPF64R. (and both say ultraguard) I ordered from this one because it showed the black one, but I notice now the other one shows both the blue and the black. I'm sure they just send whatever they have on hand from the nearest warehouse, but if there is a difference in the colors then they shouldn't be doing that.
      Also noticed under the Does This Fit Your Vehicle it says, "Notes: EXCEPT ECUADOR(CX3), STOP/START ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM(KL9)" I'm not even sure what that means and can't find any info about the stop/start cars taking a different filter.

      The one I have doesn't have a size listed on it, only the filters it works with. It fits the Fram PH3387A / WIX 51040 / ACDelco PF 47 filter. Basically the standard filter used on most GM 4 and 6 cylinder engines from the 80's to the mid 2000's.
