@@upir_upir I imagine you could build nixie cube bar gauges, it could look like those early digital instruments, depending on how large the cube is you could make it to display the revs and have another one with numbers for the speed.
But I don't know if there are any nixie cubes like that so even if its possible to build one it would probably be expensive to build do so. So if you were to build one out of readily avaliable materials it would probably be to just use a regular gauge as a rev counter and have the speed be displayed by the nixie cubes.
There were a lot of motorcycles that used this mix of analog and digital display back in the day so it wouldn't look too out of place.

Also side note for printing but you should rotate everything sideways and print using tree supports. Tree supports are really nice and use less filament and seem to work super well for me and break off easy. The side ways printing is so that if you actually use the shifter they layer lines don’t line up with the force for shifting, this means the parts should not sheer apart on a layer line. Just a tip because I have made the mistake of printing what was easier but the part doesn’t hold up and shears at the lay lines when force is applied.

Id say that new electric Hyundai crossover. But the FJ cruiser is also a good option, having two shifters thst jave screw+on knobs and a design based on it's 60s counterpart. While not as "retro futuristic" and rather "vintage modern" , it has the potential to really start looking the part if you go in on trying to make it happen.

      1) Start with basic Arduino tutorials to understand the basics of microcontrollers. Arduino is limited, but easy to learn and there are plenty of resources.

to get rid of the support problem you could just add threaded insert. so it's kinda like a pipe with outer threads. then have both lower and upper piece to have inner threads. so you can print them flat on the plate. It would be then 3 piece set. and then you sandwich them all together. Prolly faster than having to switch the filament all the time and cleaner mating surface too. btw i'm doing it also. i already orderd the lcd display with bmw logo you showcased. :)

So at 12:50 where you said it was a happy coincidence that it fit inside... I think that can become an intentional design choice... because then you can have yet another piece that closes from the top... say magnetically attached?... and it can be designed in such a way where you can hide the big gaps that needs to be there because it needed to be big enough for the nixie tube to insert from the top... so it would become a bezzle of sorts and expose only the text

For years now I've said showing the gear number is a useless feature, since you are able to feel and/or remember what gear you're in at all times.
But that thing is pretty cool. If i wouldn't run a 600g shift knob, I'd get that and crash into the first tree, distracted by nixie tube. Solid, 10/10.

@@upir_upir Definitely. I threw in a short shifter - on which the top (where you screw the shift knob on) is a bit shorter, too.
With a heavier, longer knob, it's now easier to throw the gears in. Not smooth as butter, since it's a 2006 Eclipse, but a lot better than OEM.
