911 dispatcher here. It may seem like we’re asking “unnecessary” questions but we’re asking things that we need to know so that we can provide information to officers/EMS/fire that they need. And while we’re continuing to ask questions, we already have help on the way. Certain calls we are required to stay on the line until help is there.
Another 911 operator here, we can also provide CPR instruction if needed til help gets there.

@@karinaquezada1456 it can be. Depends on the call volume and what kind of calls you deal with. The hours and overtime alone can be draining at times.
@@karinaquezada1456 it helps when you’re surrounded by good people going through the same thing as you. Helps a lot actually.
I think the more draining is when people don’t understand what we do or why we do it. They get mad at us when we’re only trying to do our jobs and do the best we can. People also don’t realize that we can be sued civilly if a call is not done correctly and someone gets hurt.
I hang on to EVERY WORD when Mariah finally speaks lol. I wish she weighed in on more of the topics but I understand her decision

911 dispatcher here😬 it may seem like a bunch of unnecessary questions, but these questions determine on who all we need to send and to give more information to the responders in case something changes. As we ask all of the questions, we’ve already started help that way. I try to reassure my callers that help is already on the way, but I have a few more questions I need to ask so I can update my officers. Thank you Zane for calling! Most people would just stand and watch something like that go on rather than try to actually get them help.
Thank you for this! They’re trying to figure out if the driver is unresponsive or needs a rig sent for medical evaluation.

In elementary, each morning a class from any grade level got picked to do the pledge of allegiance
Only 4 or 5 students went up
One held the flag
One held the mic
And the rest stood there reciting the pledge of allegiance in front of the entire school
bringing back some memories, i only got to do it once and i hated it lol

I have to go through it anytime I’m traveling out of town via car 😂 I remember bringing friends down from college to visit my hometown and they had NO CLUE checkpoints were a thing! On the 911 dispatching questions, you were right about them asking all the medical based questions to determine if they need an ambulance. All the questions might seem silly but it really does help us medics responding to the scene to plan ahead and decipher what other resources we need for the call to get those enroute and there in a timely manner.

The intercoms yes!! In Houston, schools had the option of calling thru the intercom w/ the front office! Now it’s just a phone in every room.

At my public school, every 5th grader was able to do a "society club," and it was basically working the front desk during our secretaries lunch break. We'd do prints and copying, morning announcements with the pledge, whatever little desk work they needed done. It was so fun, but now i realize it was kinda like child labor, but it was a great lesson on work and responsibilities
Matt you should check out your local thrift stores for Christmas village stuff!!! I swear they always have soooo much around this time of year and it’s so affordable. The nicer the area the thrift store is in also makes your chances of finding good quality ones better :)

You should never worry about calling in on someone who is under the influence. They are the ones selfish enough to put others in danger. Innocent people are injured and or killed by the minute from those under the influence. You did the right thing!
