Reconnaissance (Enchantment from Exodus) would be a fantastic enchantment with this commander, as it allows you to keep your commander alive when it attacks.
Yep, I thought of that as well the moment I read Myrel's effects. Attack, get the trigger for the Soldier tokens, then use Reconniassance to pull Myrel out of combat and to safety. Maze of Ith can do the same as well!
or you know just dolmen gate and prevent all combat damage to all your attacking creatures so you don't even lose your tokens when they attack and go wide

@@Draco9909 this commander would as you would then double your tokens each turn and get to a quick overrun plus dolmen gate is low cmc and is a static not just an activated
@@zannothefox except that the enchantment lets you untap them for blockers. Very few things can even interact with the enchantment. Last but not least the enchantment dodges removal from 3/5 colors on average (average meaning in most games not "but what about THIS card?" Bs).

I feel like the shadows over innistrad Odric doesnt get enough credit. Keyword soup is one of my favorite decks I've ever built. Spreading double strike, trample, indestructible, and though its tricky in mono white, deathouch all together on your creatures gets out of hand really fast, and there's a lot of cheap creatures that have all of those abilities. Such as stuffy doll, who I like to put my Pariah on.
I don't remember, is it static or during combat?
@@masterxilliam combat unfortunately, so they're vulnerable for upkeep and main phase one, but it is EACH combat, so you keep indestructible, life link, etc on your opponents combat steps

If I declared Myrel, Brimaz & Hero of BladeHold as my attackers. While holding priority I can decide which triggers goes off first? Create Soldier tokens with Brimaz & Bladehold, then create more tokens with Myrel? Of course the Myrel Soldier tokens won't have haste.
a good but slightly complicated combo within my myrel deck is myr welder, staff of domination and gilded lotus to generate infinite mana, then using said mana on platoon dispenser essentially creating an infinite army of 1/1 soldiers.
Forgot Elspeth Sun's Champion (Elspeth Knight Errant is also viable), Coat of Arms (that could easily win you the game with a decent token board state and Myrel), Preeminent Captain can help cheat out more costly soldiers, Catapult Master would allow you to exile large swaths of your opponent's dangerous creatures, there's a couple of soldiers that discount the cost to cast soldiers and a few that anthem soldiers, 15 1/1s is a lot, 15 4/4s with first strike and vigilance is absolutely terrifying.
I'm going to have to build this deck just so that I'll finally have a commander version of my kitchen counter top deck I've had for years.
The best mono-white commander is, “Light-Paws”. Period.
This is the first card I've been excited about, lots of good cards but this one will go into my Darien deck. I also want to build her by herself.

Damnit, I’ve already got a Lathril deck, a Krenko deck, and a Ghoulcaller Gisa deck. I don’t need to be tempted with ANOTHER go-wide tribal token deck. And yet, here we are.
This is crazy good, I want it for most of my white decks even the ones that don’t make soldiers
Cathar's Crusade and win out of nowhere. Skull Clamp and draw your deck. Yeah, seems good.

Okay, the second effect is definitely great for Mono-White Soldier Tribal. But that *first* effect is just *insane.* Either as a Commander *or* as part of the 99 in another deck, this card is definitely a power spike on its own.
Even if it isn't your commander, this is fantastic for aggro. I'm amped about it for standard too.
How does this work with Rhystic study and Esper Sentinel? Do opponents still get to draw?
Yes they get to draw still. Those are triggered abilities
I know anointed procession gets routinely mentioned in white mass token episodes, but Cathars Crusade is a fantastic choice either in addition to or in place of anointed procession. It's a fraction of the price and can make even 1/1 creatures enormous when they start coming out en masse like this commander wants to do.
Exactly my thought. Combined with annointed possession this can become absolutely bonkers
I have an Aurelia deck designed to copy her infinitely so i can keep getting her combat effect off. This would go great in that deck to keep bulking up my token army.
Not sure if I want this commanding my mono white deck, but it's a definite 99 include.
I think Knight-captain of Eos is a must for this commander.
The power of this card is wild in playtesting.
As a person who plays other games where your turn is almost Exclusively if not Exclusively your turn, Commander was a bit of a weird feeling for me to play with my friends because of that. I love this card so I'll likely get it to play with the buds

Keep in mind thus only works on activated abilities of artifacts, creatures and enchantments. If they have triggered abilities your opponent isn't activating them, they just happen on a trigger. Things like unwinding clock, or upkeep discard effects, or like nekuzars extra draws. Those will all happen regardless. Things like the counterspeel enchantment that triggers and places counters would still happen as it's not activated, its triggered, things like solemnity would still happen as well.

Myrel, Shield of Argive goes straight into my Sisay deck and removing Dosan & Grand Abolisher ... wonder if foil Grand Abolisher will drastically go down in price?
Some people who play grand abolisher will replace it with this but most will either play both or just play abolisher. Getting some 1/1 tokens isn't what abolisher is designed to do in the decks that play it, it is used to stop interaction and then combo off.
@@MK-13337 Probably, but I can easily tutor Myrel with Sisay, getting Abolisher out was luck or a chore ;)
This is pretty funny commander and the tokens are nice too
On the MTG app I have myrel, adilene, by elspeths command, valiant warrior and resolute reinforcements in my deck and think it’s a must to atleast have those cards in a white deck. Clutched a game using them with 14 life while my opponent had 40 health because he had soul warden and along with 4 other creatures that gained counters each time they got life. I used pacifism, prisoner sentence and some other cards to render 4 of those creatures useless and let him keep soul warden. Used elspeths command to make myrel flying and it was pretty much over ended up with 150 creatures all buffed by valiant warrior by +1/+1 my opponent thought they had me beat but my number multiplied and eventually didn’t need myrel to even attack had enough tokens to block and take all their life but my opponent gave up even tho they had 171 life and I had 14. Myrel will help a lot with a good deck but I recommend pacifism and other cards like it that render creatures useless. their “blessed voice” at the end had over 121/121 on it but was useless and couldn’t even attack with it.

Reconnisance would do great since you can just remove him from combat, still get the tokens and then not have to worry about him having to fight a creature

Krenko has just one trick and is mono color.

Having a Grand Abolisher for a commander with some soldier tokens that die for corrosion don't make this card the best mono white speically in a world post Oswald. Perhaps if this was a partner or background card.
That being said her design is fantastic in the 99 and the arwork of those new war soldier cards is seriously cool

CEDH likes other colors and/or cheaper commanders.
Players will brew, players will play, players will try, but ultimately it's gonna fall from CEDH level.
Well cEDH might love this. Although they already have grand abolisher which is half the mana cost of this dude. And most decks run enough tutors to not have to play redundant copies of this effect. But it might see some play in monoW builds and/or builds that don't run black or green which tend to have less tutors and need more redundancy.
Enemies can also flip morph creatures on your turn so something that blows up ballista when turned over will interact with you.
This seems like an interesting Stax commander
Now I'm imagining a situation where you only have this and say 4 little 1/1tokens from it then you play coat of arms, attack, suddenly the tokens are 10/10s...
coat of arms is the big deal :D
It's cool be fun soilder comander it's cool but in control decks it be nice add even if don't get lot a tokens it still useful card just cool card for mono white

This card also directly combos with Darien, King of Kjeldor who creates soldiers when you take damage so just a way to turn out even more units
I used this for the first time today. Turn four I drew Helm of the Host. A few turns later I had 135 soldiers. I was embarrassed. I actually tried to argue when the guys told me that the Helm effect stacks so that her ability creates soldiers and then the token does and then the token does etc....I figured that they all just went at once and multiplied but they were right, the growth is exponential. It was so ridiculous that I may never play it again.
